2 stage snowblower lubrication question, manual missing figures

Recommended Posts

Hi all, does anyone have a 79361 two stage blower that knows how the gear lubricant is replaced in the front auger gearbox? I see one plug that looks to be the one to fill with but I don't see a drain plug. Is it just kept topped off and not changed? Is it 80W90 gear oil or a grease? I've seen some mention to use a grease but same question as to how to change out what's in there.  Is there a lubrication fitting on the impeller bearing? I've downloaded the file for the operator's manual for a 79361 snowblower on my 1995 model but page 11 that references figures 35 and 36 is blank. The chain should be easy as it just states 10W30 to lube it. The rear chain drive gear box I see states that maintenance is not required.

Appreciate any help, thanks.

@Panther416-8  after a clean / flush out  , would recommend  a polyurea rated  grease lubricant  , lucas  xtra , HD green grease , or JD  similar rated grease , would also use a specific  open / gear / chain lubricant on any chain drive . would also detail lubricate every , rusty movement point , and related linkage area . did over a 2 stage  a few years ago, picked up a frozen / neglected  piece , sold it as as a smooth easy moving unit . agree with @gwest_ca  above  for information . but if its rusty , get after it , for reason / cure . pete

Haha. Just sent you a PM Pete, so please ignore. Thanks. What procedure would you use to flush the auger gearbox since there is no drain plug ?

All, I see some snowblower have zerk fittings on each auger half so the the auger shaft can be greased for corrosion protection ( 79361 snowblower does not). Has anyone drilled/tapped their augers for grease fittings?

Perhaps an older or newer manual will have what you need

Thanks Garry. I see the figure for greasing the impeller bearing in one of the older manuals. It's just that the figure shows an access hole for the zerk fitting. On mine I just need to loosen the two 1/2" bolts and take off the acces cover for the chain and sprockets and I see the impeller fitting.

@Panther416-8  regularly use  carb cleaner , with tube extension to final flush out  grease issues , rag / screwdriver , for  most of it , finish with spray / clean rag . pete
