KT17 Twin in a C Series Tractor?

Recommended Posts

ebinmaine

Anybody have pictures or information about putting a Twin Kohler engine into a mid-70s C-series?

I have a couple of 1986 KT17 Series II engines here and I'm thinking of temporarily setting one in my 1975 Automatic.

I feel like I've brought this up before but I can't find the thread.

I know I'll have to move the battery...

What else is there?

Thoughts comments questions suggestions welcome and appreciated.

I think the closest photos you may find are that of Briggs twins in that era of Wheel Horses unless you can find a few photos of when Wheel Horse tested the Kohler Series I twins in the late seventies.  There have been a few times I thought of doing the KT twin mashup but the issue of the hood closing without modification stopped me, well, that and no more garage space.  If you can close the hood easily, I say run it!

You may be exactly right and in fact we were talking about doing just that yesterday.

No rush on that one. No specific need for the tractor.

My Automatic is my snow plow machine and we could certainly do without it having multiple others but that's the one that is the most user friendly and has the largest plow.

Wasn't there a similar repower recently from Ben's Vintage Tractors? I can't find it right now, but prolly a good place to start.

I thought it was Ben's but I haven't found it yet. Someone just put a KT or Mag twin on a C series a few weeks back. I remember the pics but not the thread name. :confusion-scratchheadyellow:

I couldn't find anything either.

Perhaps the method will be as above.

Some one put a 20 HP opposed in a C loader tractor they were building years back. Don't rember if it was finished or they took the loader back off. Saw it later without the loader.

Fouind a post back in Apr. 17 2012 where " Steve B"  plan to build  a C-200.

In that post Fireman showed a picture of a C-200 he built with an  Onan 20.

Fireman used a C-series from 1978 or 79 with the older C-series hood. with gas tank under the seat.

There may be builds but didn't find them.

GMorning EB,    I may be misunderstanding you, but it seems as if your attempting to install a Kohler KT-17 in a C series tractor??    I have a factory C-175 BlackHood, that has a KT-17 series 1 in it, fits nice, but hs the shaker plate with it.   Not sure if this is the avenue your going down, but I have it in the back yard and can provide plenty of pix for ya.   And its the tractor I got with a blown engine, so I already replaced it.  And it came with a Front end Loader too.

Yeah 10-4 Jay.. but I'm looking to put it into an older one that has the forward angled steering tower and also the fuel tank up inside under the hood just in front of the steering wheel.

I'm quite sure it would bolt right in to a 78+  but I don't know about the 77 and older style.

Ahhhhh, OK EB,

I should have realized that you weren't looking for standard Info....  Because you are smarter than the average Bear!!!!   Hahaha.    I saw that Ben of the vintage tractor variety was mentioned... I know him, and have done Business with him in the past.     I happen to be heading to that corner of the state this afternoon to see another forum member.  I'll stop in to his museum and seee what he has kicking around.   He alwyas has some home grown projects going on.  Interesting little place he has.

Thanx, Jay

Much appreciated.

Ben got back to me by text and did give me a little info but his conversion was on a later one like you speak of.

I'm not figuring on having time to attack this project until the 4-day weekend at the end of the month. I think what I'll do is park the 1975 Automatic right beside the 417A and commence to ripping and tearing until something happens that went well.

🐻🤠

You ever get any bright ideas about stopping up to Ben's place here in Maine don't be afraid to stop by for a coffee.

@JCM gonna help with that...? :confusion-confused:

If so, don't be surprised if a beagle comes crawling out from under your stairs, Eric... :hide:
