Kibbie01 28 #1 Posted October 31, 2022 I bought a GT 14 yesterday that the guy said runs, but needs a new solenoid. After I got it home and put it on the lift, I noticed that it has a broken deck bar and missing the pulley/spindle that makes the deck work. My last Wheel Horse was a C-141, so I am familiar with the 14 HP motor, but almost everything else is different on this GT 14. I will need some parts and I have no clue where to start looking other than Ebay. any suggestions?
gt14rider 764 #2 Posted October 31, 2022 (edited) Welcome to red square, The gt14 is a horse of a different color, if you get us some pic's we can tell what you're missing. A lot of Gt14 accessories are tractor specific. Edited October 31, 2022 by gt14rider

19richie66 17,508 #7 Posted October 31, 2022 Some of us have parts just depending on what you need. @Pullstart Kevein has a small cache at his house. @hcminis DJ has a large parts bin. Take some pics and make a list. Also, model number for year if you have it.
daveoman1966 3,752 #8 Posted October 31, 2022 When you post pics of the GT14, post pics of the mower deck too. The deck or tractor MAY have been upgraded from original OEM configuration(s).

How much confidence do you have in the previous owner's electrical diagnosis? If your battery is good and you have good battery cables you should be able to use a small jumper wire from the battery "+" to the small terminal on the solenoid and have it close and run the starter. If you need a solenoid you can buy a Ford Solenoid at any auto parts store. The terminal marked "I" will not be used. For Wheel Horse parts you can post a free ad in our classified section. https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/classifieds/wanted/
Pullstart 62,905 #10 Posted November 1, 2022 yes, show some pictures of the broken parts and I can check my stash. I don’t have a deck on my GT14, so anything I have for one would be available.

Sailman 1,291 #12 Posted November 1, 2022 I have a GT 14 and its a real hoss but there are some unique features on it (good and bad). It was the "Cadillac" wheelhorse in its day. Make sure the small wire coming from the ignition to the solenoid does not have any broken spots. Had another of my wheelhorses with same issue. Thought it was needing a solenoid but just had a broken wire from the ignition. Ebay and vendors here are your best bet for parts. Let folks know what you need and you will get lots of support here from the experts on this site!
Kibbie01 28 #13 Posted November 1, 2022 I will check that wire tonight, thanks

19richie66 17,508 #19 Posted November 7, 2022 can you pull the starter gear manually?
Kibbie01 28 #21 Posted November 7, 2022 Not sure what you mean about pulling the starter manually? it will spin when I tried it after i took it off. I put another starter I had left over from my C-141. still wouldnt engage.
The Freightliner Guy 1,327 #22 Posted November 7, 2022 (edited) He’s saying can you pull the small gear so it’s in contact with the big gear well that’s what I think he’s trying to say Edited November 7, 2022 by The Freightliner Guy
Kibbie01 28 #23 Posted November 7, 2022 I tried pulling it out, but doesnt look like there is enough power to spin the big one
Snoopy11 5,714 #24 Posted November 7, 2022 Just thinking out loud... what condition is the battery in? Seems to me the battery doesn't have enough juice to kick the starter gear out, and when you manually pull the starter gear out to contact the flywheel gear, it won't spin the flywheel because there isn't enough power.... I would try jumping your machine with, perhaps your car battery, and see if that helps your machine's condition... Don
pfrederi 17,741 #25 Posted November 7, 2022 use jumper cables. Black to Battery NEG and a clean bolt on the engine block. Red to battery positive and touch other end to the starter input terminal. If it engages you have a weak solenoid or more like bad ground somewhere. if it doesn't work load test battery it is bad. So many electrical problems here come back to weak battery or bad ground.
