Joe Shmo 158 #1 Posted October 30, 2022 Gas went bad in tank and gummed up the strainer bowl under tank. Trying to clean bowl and wondering how and what would work best. Thanks for any suggestions.
oliver2-44 10,370 #2 Posted October 30, 2022 Water based cleaners such as Purple Power may work. I like to soak in lacquer thinner, in a closed container or a well ventilated (outside) area. Carburetor Cleaner or Brake Kleen in a spray can should also work.
Pullstart 64,576 #3 Posted October 30, 2022 I have found some pretty decent $1 degreaser (with spray bottles!) at Dollar General. It sure wouldn’t hurt to dump an entire bottle in straight and agitate the tank somehow. If you have a helper to drag the dead tractor around on some rough terrain, that might help. FYI, you need to drop the transmission to get the gas tank out on that model as far as I’m aware. The best job you can clean it in the tractor, might be worth it.
daveoman1966 3,808 #4 Posted October 30, 2022 Use Lacquer Thinner. It is a solvent for everything 'cept Egyptian Mummification. 3

953 nut 57,963 #6 Posted October 30, 2022 Denatured Alcohol should do the trick, it has methanol in it and will cut all sorts of crud. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/klean-strip-denatured-alcohol-quart-qsl26?store=1920&cid=Shopping-Google-Local_Feed&utm_medium=Google&utm_source=Shopping&utm_campaign=&utm_content=Local_Feed&gclid=Cj0KCQjwwfiaBhC7ARIsAGvcPe4opAcITg9BRdGB19SBW_UR8XH787yvQujDDJjnVYKRtCoIVHJOCkoaAk81EALw_wcB

Joe Shmo 158 #10 Posted October 31, 2022 Should I be able to blow through the top, where it screws into tank, of the sediment bowl/strainer. I would think you could but I am not too sure. Seems plugged up to me. She will run on a “fuel IV “😀
