Are you willing to go to a stack style muffler?

The red Cherry Bomb has a Honda Shadow baffle welded into the end of it.  It’s quite mellow.  @953 nut used a Harley Davidson muffler on this 953 we got from him.  It was even quieter.

I find that the original Nelson muffler designed for K-241 (on Wheel Horses) is the quietest. original_79b4ef5e-5a99-46ad-84ad-5f9a2f702af0_Screenshot_20221029-202728.png.c09398b65d44cb09cc080d306f8ce247.png

I have the OEM muffler, and it is in great shape but I was looking for something quieter. I like the Cherry Bomb stacked idea. The Cherry Bomb worked great on my 1973 Pinto, so it would have to be good on my WH. I like the idea of a starch with a flapper too.

Definitely following. Both Alex and Aiden’s tractors are loud.

Kohler 10hp engines are fairly quiet. Most any canister muffler should work well.

We've had several sizes of tractors and engines here.

The quietest we've seen that is readily available for purchase are a Cub muffler that's turned down towards the frame or up as a stack.

Another usable candidate is the 70s and '80s type gravely muffler.

I have to admit we've never had a good solid original Nelson here so they may very well be the winner.

It's ultra important to note that no matter how quiet the exhaust is the engine is air cooled hence will transmit a LOT of the operational audio emanations right through the cooling fins to your ear.

I bought a K241 from a Ford IIRC, had tins that kinda wrapped around the muffler and the exhaust was out the front I think. Didn't see the tractor, only got the motor. But I put the motor on a frame, just to how it ran. I couldn't hear the exhaust AT ALL. All I could hear was what sounded like air flow through engine/tins. I still have that muffler, I'll see if there is any markings on it and snap some pics.

Who needs a muffler, except my neighbor lady. I was born to make noise and I will be quiet when I die.
