motor for 701

Recommended Posts

Sailman

Needing a motor for a 701 roller. I think it came with 161 original. Wondering what other model engines will fit with minimum of mods. Seems to me there are a lot more 181's out there. Will it work OK?

Not interested in "original restoration" just want to get the little tractor running for the grand kids. My tractors are workers not show pieces.

I suppose a predator is an option but prefer to stick with the Kohlers.

Any ideas?

Any small block Kohler should drop right in. K141, K161, or K181. With mods most other small engines will work as well.

For fit and function, I'd go with a K181.

Pullstart

Keep in mind, you’ll need either a recoil or a starter/generator for the battery to fit right.  A normal starter gets in the way.

Two of them (opposite corners) kept going flat, so I took the valve cores out and let them all run flat.  There is zero air pressure in ‘em!  It crawls, but doesn’t have the MOST pulling ability.  Just fun.
