I'll try to get more pics this weekend. Neither are running at the moment but I don't think it will take much to get them going. The 1045 is the roughest of the two but definitely fixable. I'm getting the impression from the comments that the 1045 is a highly desirable tractor.

I don't know anything about these so someone educate me. Is the big block short frame that makes them special?

The 1045 was a transition from the round hood to the square hood models. The rear end is the traditional old style fenders and seat and up front is the newer square hood. Many of us feel that the factory built this model to use up the fenders and seats that were in the factory at the time. The Ponds didn't waste anything, they just created another model which was a low production unique item so it has become very popular.

You found one of the few Holy Grail :wh: models and didn’t even know it?!?!  Congrats!

Hmm, This one has the later model flip up seat pan but it plainly says on the side 1045 and it has a 10hp Kohler engine. I'll get the serial # and some more pics this weekend.

Oh no.  Might be a belt guard swap…

My daughter and I made a “mock” 1045 by taking this 857 (with a fender pan) and swapping some sheet metal to be the square hood, round fender machine.  It’s still an 8 hp for now, but it’ll make you look twice.

Beginning to think I have another hybrid. The 1045 is on the belt guard which could have been switched at some point.

Does that model tag say 3631?

That would be a 1968 500 special.

I believe that particular tractor would have normally been powered by a Tecumseh and you've obviously got a Kohler in there with a starter generator. Gas tank is also in the correct place for a Kohler engine.

What is the engine?

All kinds of custom there!  That belt guard shouldn’t fit right on a later model.  How about a picture of the right side please?

The model # is 1  3631. I will get a picture of the right side, I thought I took one but didn't. It is a K241 10 HP The tractor doesn't look like it has been built from a pile of parts but the belt guard is not as red as the rest of the tractor so I'm guessing it was from another machine.

Given that a 1045 and 500 Special are both short frame machines perhaps the engine and belt guard are 1045... (?)

Mind posting the serial number for the list?
