This is an original 502.  It was my Dad's.  One piece tank, 13 hole round seat (the square seat was on the 702), no battery, but came with the rare tool tray where a battery would go, these are the original tires and the engine was a HT55C-3088P recoil  5.5 HP, had the 5025 transmission.  The serial # on this is 62-18107.  I'm not picking Jim's apart, it's hard to find the HT44C-3088P engine anymore and that tool tray is rare.  Just saying what is original if Jim is going to try to make it original again.  :notworthy:

Looks like the tool box clamped into the battery tray. Would I be correct to guess that all the 62 models came with the battery tray welded in place and the tool box was an option for the pull start models?

I've heard that here and it sure makes sense to make it seem like a benefit instead of an afterthought, right?

2 awesome tractors. I have yet to see one of the skiff style ones in person in my area. I’m sure there are a few survivors out there.

Is that common to have a battery and lights with a pull start motor?

All and all a very nice looking machine.

All the real expensive stuff looks there and solid.

Wish I could say the same for my current cub project.

All of the older electric start B&S engines from 12hp down that I've worked with had both as well.

@Achto,  yes, the part that holds the battery was welded, the tool tray came with the 502.  Remember, the 502, 552 and the 702 had the same frame, steering, tires.  Two came with batteries, one had the tool tray.  It would be easy to make one.  @gwest_ca would know more about the Serial Numbers of the horses from that year.  I think somedays they did 502's, some days they did 702's, and the same for the 552's.

About the seat...I could swear I have seen a Manual for the 502,552,and 702 that showed the 502 with the round seat and the 702 with the square seat on the front, and the parts list reflected that.  I can't find that Manual showing that now.  Maybe, I am mistaken about that and you could order either seat.  One thing though, a good 13 hole round seat is getting hard to find.  @joebob may know more about an original 502??  :eusa-think:

Except for the teccy, would have to have a lauson with a oil pump sump, you can see it in steves photos under the pto2008_07261962-5020003.JPG.7d62530e5f1c9f39241cd39eadcf3594.JPG

Ordered and put on a 12 clam fleabay carb today. Once I got her dialed in runs sweet. Best running Tecky I got!

Say what you want about the cheapy Chinese knock offs but this is the second one I got. First one was for a 12 Kohler and good luck with that too.

Don't go by the manual on the settings tho ... sweet spots were 3 turns out on idle and only maybe one full turn on the main.  Really plug & play tho once I got that fingered out.

Some new charging diodes and this one is ready to run.
