K341 junk starters

Recommended Posts

Lcrobinson

I have had two replacement starters for my 1976 C-160 K341 fail.  The original starter was replaced because it was very weak to crank. The first replacement worked very well up until the point that it locked up.  I did not open it up to determine the cause of failure.  The second replacement starter did not mesh well with the ring gear on the fly wheel, and took some modification to the bracket to get the gears to mesh properly.  This starter has now failed because the magnets debonded from the casing.

Can anyone recommend a high-quality starter for these machines? I am growing tired of changing, starter motors.  These failed starters were purchased from vendors on Amazon and I am hesitant to go back for more pain. Each lasted less than one year.

Thanks!

Logan

Give a CALL to Lincoln at A to Z Tractor in PA.

Note that I emphasized CALL.

He's super busy and his inventory is often not listed on his site.

Make sure you get a starter with the correct number of teeth to insure they mesh properly. I know they are two, possible three different numbers of teeth.  Count the teeth on your original if you still have it.

Actually if you still have the original, you could open it up and show us some pictures of the internals.  They can be rebuilt!  sometimes they act slow due to the front/middle bushing being worn causing it to drag inside.
