Steering wheels????

What are you all using for replacement steering wheels? The one on Alex’s Commando 8 is broken, bent and ready to be replaced.

Also he’s thinking he wants to replace this piece that’s in the hole the headlight bezels would be. I don’t know the real name of it to help direct him where to look. Does anyone know what it’s called and does anyone know if anyone is reproducing them?

Thanks, Eric. That steering wheel looks like an accident just waiting to happen. The steering wheel hub on the C81 split and the wheel seperated from the hex insert while my son was plowing with it 3 years ago. I came up with a two-piece split clamp and adapter ring to use an aftermarket wheel - similar to the 420 LSE. No more roll pin to deal with, allows you to set the wheel straight to the front wheels - center spoke up, center spoke down, your choice.. The powder coat finish I applied matches nicely. Been used now for 3 seasons, no slipping out of place, no issues.  Best part - you get to choose and buy the wheel of your choice - you could even do the 70's style welded chain Hippie Van version if you had a Rat Rod !!

@ri702bill it most definitely is an accident waiting to happen. One of the main reasons he hasn’t been driving it. He wants to plow snow with it this winter so it needs to get replaced. Do you have close up shots of the adapter you made?

I do, sort of. I started off with the Grant adapter kit for 70's and 80's Chevy trucks - that is where the 3 shoulder screws came from. Then I bought the Marine style center fixed cap plate from Grant.

Bought the Grant wheel AND horn cap on the jungle site. The rest is a propriety design from 10BrinkDesignRI.

Please PM me if you wish me to quote fabricating one for you .... Were you at Stevebo's Meet & Greet earlier this month ??

Bill
