Where do you hook it up ? He has a Chilton manual for the truck… that would probably tell how, correct ?

Directly to a port on the intake manifold would be best

It wouldn’t hurt to read the spark plugs.  That might tell which cylinder is acting up if it is isolated.  When they read race car plugs, they shut it down fast from high rpms and a hard pull.  This should be easier to tell which cylinder is suspect without high revs.

I have not had to do that in years - decades actually....

@Horse Newbie    had a similar issue  on my grandsons ford ranger , engine PCV , VENT SYSTEM , was plugged solid  , check valve fell apart at removal .  removed all related hoses , opened up engine vent port , was clogged with shellac like build up , new hose ,  moved valve to an easier service area , it all worked out, also sea formed  all related ports and carb itself . pete

Ever add Seafoam a bit at a time directly into the intake with the engine running?? Looks like @Pullstart doing a burnout, but without the tire smoke smell !! Lots of white smoke, but it works.

ATF as well… my auto shop teacher taught me that one.  You can easily add a qt to the gas tank, engine before an oil change. Direct into the intake, etc.

Funny - the diaphragm on the old GM Powerglide transmissions would fail and suck all the ATF out of the trans !! Changed a few in my younger years.......
