Sparky-(Admin) 21,324 #1 Posted October 19, 2022 Hey folks. Just received my 3rd message about a RS member going by Fordeen that is using the wanted section to scam us. Here’s what was happening: I post in the wanted section that I need a mcgluger pin…Fordeen messages me that he knows someone with a mcluger pin for sale and provides an email address. I email the address given, strike up a deal and make some sort of electronic payment. After payment all communication stops, and the scam is complete. Karl has banned Fordeen BUT…if you are currently in negotiations/communications with Fordeen or with the email address he provided STOP IMMEDIATELY! 7 1 13

nylyon-(Admin) 7,291 #3 Posted October 19, 2022 When transacting here or anywhere for that matter, check how long the member had been a member. In this case they were members for less than 1 day, which should be suspect. 12

953 nut 55,290 #7 Posted October 20, 2022 (edited) Sad but all too true. I had the same type of scam attempted on Auto Trader several years ago while looking at a car. Sounded fishy so I had our Sherriff's Office go on line acting as if they were me, asking questions about using an alternate payment method. The guy got really nasty with them but they were never able to track down where they were located. Edited October 20, 2022 by 953 nut 1

bc.gold 3,403 #10 Posted October 22, 2022 (edited) Was recently looking to purchase a Kia sitting idle for 8 years, the car belongs to the Grandmother but Granddaughter is handling the sale. She lives a couple of Provinces over, agreed on price then when I told her that I would deposit the funds in escrow with a local lawyer then when he received signed transfer and keys he would then mail her a check to cover the purchase. Lawyer wanted $100.00 which I thought was a reasonable fee for good insurance. That's when things turned nasty, for the next couple of days she and her friends text bombed me with rubbish, was so bad I disabled the texting feature on my voip number. Instead I purchased a rust free 03 Jetta TDI coupled to a five speed manual, all that restaurant waste oil just waiting to be used as fuel. Don't have to warn a prospector like you to invest in a good filter and water separator! In my area, companies are buying that oil to recycle into biofuels--they are even supplying locked storage tanks for restaurants to prevent the "midnight oil collectors" from making off with the goods. First stage of removing water and sludge from waste oil - centrifuge. Waste oil becomes scarce in the fall when the bear hunters use the waste oil for bait.
