Electric lift on 516H

Recommended Posts

Gary S Minnesota

Recently purchased a 516H. The PO had disconnected the majority of the wiring throughout the tractor, starting circuit and electric lift wiring included.  I have been struggling to get the the Onan 16 to turn over with the ignition switch with no success.  I have down loaded the color coded wiring schematic and am puzzled at what appears to be an extra solonoid mounted on the frame in very near the starter solonoid.  I don’t see that in the wiring diagram and am wondering if it is there to serve the electric lift.

I would like to get ahold of an owners manual for the 516H as well as the installation manual for the wheel horse electric lift option.

Can anyone help me?

thanks in advance!

The Onan starter has a solenoid that powers the motor and also engages the Bendix drive. Sometimes called a shifting solenoid.

The diagram I looked at shows and auxiliary relay that powers the Onan solenoid. The thought process is the added relay powers the solenoid directly eliminating voltage loses between the battery, ignition switch and starter. This is a common addition to older tractors when the wiring gets lazy and does not deliver enough amperage to the solenoid.

Here is what comes up on a 516-H search
