Fuel pump rebuild kit for 1054, k241 with lever

I am trying to get the 1964 1054 running. I have orderd a condenser, carb kit,  fuel line, filter and now trying to locate a fuel pump rebuild kit. The kit is for the K241 with the primer lever as seen in the photo. Does anyone have any info on the kit?  Also what is the push tab on the cover that is left  of the "cam gear cover"? I am just getting familiar with tearing into these old Kohlers and they are interesting!

Button is a kill switch. It grounds the points. Are you sure that the fuel pump is not pumping? I'd let "sleeping dogs lie" if it's still working.

Yup - the button pushes on a piece of spring steel to shut the motor off. What's up with the pump?? Have you removed the "Out" side hose to check fuel flow while cranking?? There are two spring loaded check valves in the pump body - they can get gunked up to a point where they do not seal. A simple disassembly and cleaning may be all you need...

IF you want to go with a new diaphragm and check valves, check with Then And Now in Weymouth Massachusetts. They sell fuel system repair parts for gas engines going all the way back to the 1920's. A bit pricey, but you get what you pay for...

Other vendors also sell them - some good, others.......

I would send them a picture of the outside of you pump some pump kits will just have the diaphragm and springs that fit but not the little round valves.

While for other pumps they have kits with everything.

 

Even on the pump kits that don't have the valves, I have had good luck cleaning everything up and just replacing the diaphragm and springs has helped.  

For what its worth..........I have used a new pencil red round eraser to spin round and round to sort of clean/polish the  brass valve seats.  I think it helps, but that's just me!

 

There are some pump rebuild kits on Ebay.  I've read when some people got junk, and some got good diaphragms. So not all are bad, but if you go the Ebay route look for a seller with a very high rating.

Good information there. Only thing I can add is to use non-ethanol gas to avoid future fuel system problems.  https://www.pure-gas.org/

Thanks for the tips. I will hold off on the fuel pump rebuild until needed. I only use non-ethanol in my equipment because of the known issues.

I have the same fuel pump on my 1075. I want to rebuild mine as well. It does pump gas but it also leaks gas at the seam. I like the primer lever and don't want to replace it.

I've now worked on two of these and both times found that the housing mating faces were not perfectly flat. Using the "head flattening" technique, I gently took down the high spots which let me reassemble with confidence that it wouldn't leak--and it hasn't.

They were both pumping ok and if they hadn't been seeping, I wouldn't have opened either one.
