It attached to the side of the work bench a few feet from the vise to hold a long workpiece at the correct height. Some of you had the right idea . @8ntruckThis one is the closest to what it actually is. It is called a “ Jointer Gauge”. It attaches to a hand plane and it is used as a guide to keep plane cutting a square edge or at any other angle desired.
