JimSraj 433 #1 Posted October 9, 2022 Anybody know if the trans from a 312-8 will work in a T1267 that had a 5060 in it?
953 nut 55,743 #2 Posted October 9, 2022 (edited) The clutch/brake hook up is not the same and will need to be modified. Otherwise it should bolt up fine. could be in need of a little sheet metal trimming for the dipstick too Edited October 9, 2022 by 953 nut
ebinmaine 68,257 #3 Posted October 9, 2022 I've done the exact swap and took it back out. It will go in. It will move the tractor. The brake linkage angles for an 8 speed are just different enough from that of a 6 speed that it's tough to get just right. I wanted to make the swap so I could build a snow plow tractor. We do a LOT of back forth back forth back forth here while moving snow ❄️❄️. The differences in linkage angles made it so the belt would wear out VERY quickly. Parade tractor? Yes. Worker ... Pulling stuff without a lot of directional changes? Yes. Snow plow tractor? No. Cannot recommend. My advice is to contact Lincoln at A to Z Tractor in PA. Get a 6 speed. Forget the issues. JimSraj 433 #4 Posted October 9, 2022 That’s why I asked. Figured someone had done it. Gonna check with Lincoln and the Malvern guy tomorrow. Thanks guys.

While you've got a 6 speed out on the bench it's a good idea to replace the Limited Slip Differential spring. That, 4 seals, a case gasket and a shift boot. Lowell has all the parts. I know of a Raider with a six speed that was for sale not far away as of a month or so ago and may still be there. PM me if you interested. Even my 867 has the heavy diff now.

I can see that being done for extra strength but you lose the Limited Slip Differential. Trina and I can personally attest that it's a HUGE difference. I'm actually going to be doing the reverse of your procedure. I have at least two C160 tractors I'll be removing the 8 pinion open diff and installing a Limited Slip Differential into. My Automatic and one of the manual transmissions. I'll use the steel cap 10 pinion LSD diffs in both. Of course I'll keep the open diffs on hand and if any issues arise I'll swap back. I'm quite sure it'll be a MAJOR improvement in snow n ice traction for my Automatic snow mover.
