ebinmaine 67,328 #1 Posted October 8, 2022 Can anyone show a set-up with instructions to make a set of PVC pipe dual wheel spacers? @OldWorkHorse Steve and I are both mulling it over. What's the best way to cut the PVC straight? Important question... What's the required thickness of the PVC? I know the outer tires need to be lower air pressure. Any other info? 1
JCM 9,130 #2 Posted October 8, 2022 What size PVC are you cutting, 4'' ? If so a Milwaukee cut off saw works great. @ebinmaine
OldWorkHorse 3,045 #3 Posted October 8, 2022 12 inch should be.

JCM 9,130 #5 Posted October 8, 2022 Who's paying for the 12'' PVC. Hang on to your wallet. 1
OldWorkHorse 3,045 #6 Posted October 8, 2022 Haha it's a partnership @ebinmaine & @OldWorkHorse. We saw the price of the kits but also saw the price of the pipe so making sure we can answer as much of our thouguts and questions before hack any up.

That stuff was very expensive 7 or 8 years ago when I was going to do spacers with it. Now, add 400% 2 3
OldWorkHorse 3,045 #8 Posted October 8, 2022 1 kit was about 130 and a 12inch x 1ft is about 100. So if get 2 or 3 kits out of it still alot cheaper then the pre made kit route.
ri702bill 8,296 #9 Posted October 8, 2022 (edited) IF you know of anybody that has a Large horizontal commercial grade band saw - that cuts true - on low speed & feed it can be done... Bill Edited October 8, 2022 by ri702bill
pacer 3,168 #10 Posted October 8, 2022 A - largeish metal lathe would be ideal. My 13x36 would prolly do it with the chuck jaws reversed. The problem here is getting the end supported, I'm not too sure my steady rest would go that big. But, anyway I'm not gonna be any help being way away, but if you can find some one with a largish 13/14" or larger lathe......

Pullstart 62,812 #17 Posted October 9, 2022 @ebinmaine @OldWorkHorse not knowing your urgency… @SylvanLakeWH included a real good length of 12” pvc with the WHRat. I have plenty. 2
Heatingman 971 #18 Posted October 9, 2022 Cut it on a table saw. Make a little jig with 90 degree angle that slides on mitre slot. use a strap to hold the pipe loosely on to the jig, and slowly rotate the pipe. Sorta like this, just picture a larger piece of PVC. This jig is for making box joints, but it would look very similar. 4 1
Heatingman 971 #19 Posted October 9, 2022 If the rims are just held together with long bolts and the PVC, then why not just sleeve the bolts with steel pipe nipples. similar to this 5

Steve has some elevation. My ground is ROUGH. The PVC holding the wheels to each other makes all the difference.
SylvanLakeWH 25,503 #23 Posted October 9, 2022 @ebinmaine just FYI that pvc was from my son’s backyard ski ramp about 10 years ago… he and his buddies would skid along the top like a rail… pretty cool setup… can’t find a pic of his but it looked just like this: 2
Pullstart 62,812 #24 Posted October 20, 2022 @ebinmaine @OldWorkHorse. I used a piece of thin aluminum to draw a straight line. A couple Jack stands laid down make a decent turn drum for cutting! 5
