DoctorHfuhruhurr 137 #1 Posted October 5, 2022 What ever happened to Save Old Iron? He was/is quite the electrical guru.
953 nut 55,290 #2 Posted October 5, 2022 I wish I knew what happened to him. @Save Old Iron hasn't been active on this site since 2016 but I and others continue to benefit from his posts and the knowledge he shared, 1
Ed Kennell 38,203 #3 Posted October 5, 2022 I still cherish the diploma I received from the squirelly professor for my rebuilding of a regulator. 4
rmaynard 15,509 #4 Posted October 5, 2022 Hmm, don't get me started on that character. As far as I know, no one actually met him face to face. He always talked about his Wheel Horses that he owned, but never posted any pictures. Mike McGuire @MikesRJ and I did some research and found that many of the pictures and info that he was posting were actually pulled from others on the internet without crediting them. Like many other frauds and narcissists, he seemed to evaporate into the ether, and I personally think that this forum is better for it. Some may disagree with me, but being one member who was personally denigrated by the man, I stand by my statement above. 3

953 nut 55,290 #6 Posted October 5, 2022 When I was a new member here SOI posted a few questions to see what answers they might generate. My response to one was worthy of an "A+" he said but it was a bit incomplete. He went on to fill in the information that I hadn't included and I must admit that he was totally correct. I had been an electronics technician in the Navy and then became a journeyman electrician in civilian life. Nonetheless I had skipped over one important detail. I did not feel that he was denigrating me, he was filling in the blanks and I developed a great respect for his knowledge. I have used information from his posts to help explain how to correct problems others are having because SOI tended to break the information down in small easily understood steps. 1
meadowfield 2,570 #7 Posted October 6, 2022 Not sure about his credentials, but we did PM a lot and discuss fixes and improvements. Agree I never actually saw any real work, just pictures with details and MS paint drawings. I'm sure a few benefited from his support though...
