I couldn't resist for $100

This Bronco 14 was listed on MP, about a 75 mile round trip, all for $100. The owner was cleaning his place up and wanted it gone and I seen it at the right time. 

 

It does have some PO mods and it is pretty greasy around the lift and engine. 

 

I haven't heard it run,but the owner says it runs good,we will see.

I will work on it tomorrow and see. 

 

The horsey hub caps are crusty and it has a replacement engine. 

 

The Cub Cadet seat is adjustable!!

If it runs and drives alright it could be a nice little worker.  

 

What's the engine .... it has a newer style grill and a Walbro carb???

The Kohler engine sticker has K321 on it, all I can go by.

 

The last four tractors I have brought home has had Walbro carbs on them.

Likely an 80s or newer engine just guessing by appearance. Walbro may have been Standard on them... (?)

Shoot it's even got an original slot hitch on it AND a separate slot hitch to sleeve hitch adapter for the plow.  Excellent score!  That's why it pays to keep an eye out just to see what pops up for sale.

Hooked a battery charger to the battery and used a little starting fluid and it roared to life!! Purred like a kitten. 

 

Going to take it to the car wash and blast it clean and check on the hydro and some wiring.

Thinking it's a 1972? Or the ignition has been converted to points and coil. 1971 used Kohler's first attempt at magneto ignition. Works fine, but hard to find and expensive to replace ignition modules.

It has been rewired, could have had the mag ignition?? It has the push/pull cables, 1971??

 

The cigarette lighter even works and works really well !! I think it is OG.

 

Not sure if I will mess with it this winter,the hydraulic lift has a small leak, I think the orings behind the cam plate are leaking, and worst of all, it needs an axle bearing. To much up/down movement. Never been into a hydrostatic before, have to do some readin' on that. 

 

Three tractors are ahead of it to get worked on, so maybe next spring. I am old and slow, but maybe I can start taking some Tylenol of a morning for the aches and rip right through them!!

You're correct. I was speaking only about Broncos. I should've clarified that.

I think only the 71 model Broncos had the mag ignition. Seems like the 72s went back to battery ignition. Only way to be sure is gonna be the model number tag.

Our Bronco 14 is a 1971 and has points ignition. Does not look to have been changed.

Mopar, I think those moons will shine up nicely with chrome polish. In time the rest will fall into place. May be paint the engine in the spring if you want to. Enjoy the project.

If the wiring from the previous owner is working well just clean up any corrosion and tighter all connections and you should be god to go.

To much up/down movement. Never been into a hydrostatic before, have to do some readin' on that. The hardest part of repairing the axle bearing is removing the hubs, hitch pin and the sheet metal. Read some of the Sundstrand posts from @daveoman1966 and others and you will be fine. Pressure wash the entire transaxle before you begin working on it, cleanliness is a key to success.
