Lucas oil hydraulic oil treatment and stop leak

Recommended Posts

First off let me say I am a big fan of Lucas products

I have a KwikWay loader on a 1990 520H that I picked up last Feb. Spent some time going thru everything to R/R and have been using it fairly often for a variety of chores. PO said he had replaced one of the cylinders (leak). Put new fluid (32) in when I put the loader back on the tractor.

  • Now that I’ve had time to think about it (one replaced cylinder and three old/maybe originals) what would be the opinion of putting 10% of the Lucas product in the hydraulic fluid?????

I use an oz of theLucas Oil Fuel Treatment in 5 gallons of non corn sqeezens gasoline. All the horses really like it. :)

I've never looked at any brand of hydraulic oil treatment or read the label. Don't know if it will help or harm anything. If you are concerned about the older cylinders I would just go ahead and replace the seals on them when it is convenient for you.

Had my 520H and KwikWay loader for 30+ years and saved a small fortune by not buying any additives.  I did replace some worn hoses and the hydraulic pump on the loader, the hoses were worn by rubbing and the pump wear likely was caused by never changing the oil and there is no filter.

WHX??

Power steering rams peed out fluid regularly out of the cylinder seals on the Massey MF-40. Mike Rowe would have liked to film a dirty job on rebuilding them.

Selling the tractor but dumped a half a small  bottle of Lucas power steering stop leak in just for Ss & Grins and they stopped leaking. Well bottle says money back guarantee.  :) Guess I'm a believer.  Who knew they also have fishing reel lube. What say you greasy Pete? @peter lena

I'm guessing they just put some DOT 3 Brake fluid in some oil and sell it as stop leak. The DOT 3 brake fluid (Not Synthetic stuff)  will the swell certain types of seals.

I use brake fluid on old 2 stroke NLA case seals to swell them in place. Works pretty good but it won't fix any dry rotted or damaged seals or if a bearing is shot.

Old mechanics used that stuff like Franks Red Hot sauce.

@WHX?? think that is a good pick ,  in attempting to  correct a problem , typically  do a total change from where it was , lubrication is obviousely  an important part of that  , lucas product experience  has been  excellent ,  another thing I  do is to regularly check my lubricants , prefer  a hot after use , drain and flush ,  check my trans axel dip stick  regularly . get after a problem as soon as it starts , that way , you can cover the entire failure route . regularly change routing . eliminate /  improve as i  go . look at the total set up and function , incredible to me to see even the most basic , care for / interest  in the general state of tractors .  almost like a brag point .of neglect / abuse.  when you lay out cabling / hoses . PUT THEM WHERE THEY WANT TO BE , they will work easier / smoother. hydraulic hoses can / should be HARD LINED  most of the run ,  flex hose end area.  make up shop not far from me , selection of  fittings  is amazing . as usual , my views / ideas are different / , look over intended function , make it better . go , lucas , pete

I used this on a Dodge Pickup steering box. Slowed down the leak enough to pass the state inspection.
