squonk 41,104 #51 Posted October 28, 2022 I offered to get that pulley off. It's not my fault you don't want to drive 20 hrs. Round Trip!
elcamino/wheelhorse 9,297 #52 Posted October 29, 2022 Back to the blue box store to pickup new bolts tomorrow , the heat from the map gas bent them. In fact the sleeve is a nice blue color now . I found another sleeve in the hoarder shed when looking for some thing else. Got a feeling that the sleeve is the problem . Big PITA
rjg854 11,361 #53 Posted October 29, 2022 Good luck getting that pulley off, I'll pray for you
elcamino/wheelhorse 9,297 #54 Posted October 29, 2022 @rjg854 Pray hard. Decided to take a break from the evil pulley . Have the @squonk type pulled on it now but did not budge. Going to put my thinking cap on if I can find it , see if I can get the pulley to move. Painted the under side of the hood(bonnet) and the PTO , they are baking the warm shed. Cleaned up the pile of tools that were every where. Going to mount the rear wheels and call it a day .
squonk 41,104 #55 Posted October 29, 2022 Waldo, how are you turning the puller screw? Are you using an impact or Armstronging it?
Stormin 9,981 #56 Posted October 29, 2022 A good smack or two on the screw head may help shock it. Smack, smack tighten the screw and repeat if the screw tightens.
elcamino/wheelhorse 9,297 #57 Posted October 29, 2022 Strong arming it , been giving it small smacks , don't want to mess up the crank. Haven't found my thinking cap yet . I heated the heck out of it yesterday . Bearing sleeve was blue this morning.
sjoemie himself 3,068 #58 Posted October 29, 2022 If you don't want to damage the crank you could put some alumin(i)um, brass or copper between the puller and the crank. Are you still planning to use the pulley that you're trying to get off? Got any pictures of your setup? Might be hulpful to us 'keyboard-warriors'.
elcamino/wheelhorse 9,297 #59 Posted October 29, 2022 Not planning on reusing the pulley. It was missing a chunk to start. That is the reason I needed to remove. Missing chuck was eating the drive belt. Then while trying to remove the pulley a bigger chuck broke off. If I get out to the pulley from hell tomorrow I'll take a picture.

elcamino/wheelhorse 9,297 #63 Posted November 2, 2022 Another day of Waldo zero and pulley laughed. Heated up the shed and sprayed red on the hood. On to pulley work . Heated the c()* out of the pulley and shaft . Got a couple of turns on the pulley and nature called. Lite the torch and heated more , used a cheater bar ( a length of pipe) and cranked about 4 or 5 turns . One of the bolts on the puller broke. Torch must have been to close. Took a lunch break , went into shed to check out wood stove. Checked the hood and there were small points sticking up in 4 or 5 places. You could have seen them from 50 yards. Out came the sander , off with the red and primer. Went to the tractor shop and put new bolts on the puller, cranked on it to get every thing lined up. Back in the shed noticed no air in compressor tank ,drain valve leaking . Decided enough came the house got to be something on TV . 1
ebinmaine 67,484 #64 Posted November 2, 2022 We all have those days Mister Sir. Try again tomorrow. Perhaps doing a sage smudge over the pulley will help.

You need to call somebody and get a film crew over there and start your own reality show. The Adventures of Waldo. You'll make a fortune!

I have thought about doing that but is kind of the last resort. I think the bearing sleeve is the major hold up . It is steel not cast .

IMHO the spit would work best of those things. There's a homemade brew that I hear works excellent. MAYBE acetone and ATF ((??)) I use old school Liquid Wrench and WD-40 PENETRATING OIL. Not the regular stuff.

If you split the pulley off you can put a bearing splitter behind the sleeve or use a 3 jaw puller and be pulling less surface area.
