The pulley has a big piece missing from it , did not see it until I took off the drive belt which was eaten on one side.   Ordered a new pulley and clutch from K&B.

Well the work continues took a good look at front rims , still had ancient grease from 1972 welded to the rims .Another hunt for stuff in shed . Found a set of steel dental picks and a paint remover wheel. Hooked up the wheel to drill and finally found metal on rims. Had to use the dental picks in some places. Loaded some fire wood in shed for painting rims and watching the dry.  Gave the puller another turn and a few drops of oil in set screw hole and the pulley laughed , maybe by the Thanksgiving pulley will give up.

Any chance you can get behind the PTO piece instead?

I have taken a good look at the sleeve but I don't think I could get behind it as it is now , may need to modify the pulley ( portaband, sawzall , cutting or grinding wheels ) . Need to think on it a bit more.

I've only done this battle once that I can recall.

Seems to me I didn't even realize what I was dealing with until the piece was part way off.

I'm wondering if the piece that's actually stuck is that @#&$_() sleeve, not the pulley.

Can you get a small diameter but strong punch in to the key?

Haven't tried that yet . Sound like a good idea.

I was able to push the key all the way back , dosed it with PB blast. How did you finally get the sleeve off ?

I know everybody has preferences and different experiences. Just as an FYI... I stopped using PB  because I was not finding it worked very well at all.

I've had much better results with either good old-fashioned Liquid Wrench old formula or WD-40 Penetrating Oil. NOT the regular WD.

I will now step off my soapbox.

IIFF that crankshaft has a keyway all the way out you may be able to get that groove cleaned out below the PTO sleeve.

I do remember using pretty good amounts of heat to get that sleeve to move.

That was a few years ago now so I'm not positive but I feel like I was using a three jaw puller on the back of the pulley.

Another way of doing it would be to drive a large screwdriver down behind the pulley against the block. Do that on each side of course. That can put some serious pressure on the pulley in the outward direction.

There are those that would suggest getting the screwdrivers behind the pulley and the three jaw puller all working together and then give the end of the puller a decent smack.

I would have some concerns about doing that for fear of damaging crankshaft bearings.

Pulley has screw holes for the clutch. You need a bolt grip  (Harmonic balancer) puller. Use the holes i nthe pulley and seat the puller bolts well. May need to chase the threads in the pulley. A little heat and the pulley and sleeve will come off together. Do not use a 3 jaw puller!!!

You didn't ask me too. If you're using the engine, why are you even trying to remove the pulley?

If I read all of Waldo's posts I would start driving on the wrong side of the road! :auto-swerve:

(Actually I remember reading that. Just forgot. Driving to the BBQ joint with him scrambles the noggin!) :banana-linedance:

A few days have passed and the fun did not continue . Got all the rims primed and painted ,had them in the shed near the wood stove to bake. (Monday & Tuesday ). Have been using a HF bearing puller on the brown welded pulley and bearing sleeve.  Yesterday I did my normal grocery shopping and stopped in at the blue box store for map gas.None to be found or cylinders of propane. Ended up at my brother's for a BS session and where can I buy map gas. He answered blue box store , gave him the answer NO. Out comes his fancy phone. Scroll , scroll , son of a gun. He digs around in one of his magic 5 gallon buckets ( @Ed Kennell did not know you gave lessons on magic buckets ) and pulls out 2 cylinders of map gas and torch . Hot dog I am ready for today. Took a while for me to start moving and finally made it to tractor house. Decided to add more pressure to puller , big bang and now I have another big of pulley missing. Son of &&*((&*^  dig in to all bolts I have to find right size to try @squonk suggestion on removing pulley.  Another trip to blue box store found 4 bolts and bought 2 extras just in case.  Ate lunch and took a nap. Waldomobile can wait another day.

The big bang is probably why a chunk was missing in the first place

The score is Waldo big fat zero and the pulley laughed . Applied heat for a long time about an hour, may have moved the pulley a 1/16 of an inch more like a  1/32 of an inch. Looked on line at harmonic balance remover from HF , but it only has 2 slots for bolts not 4 as @squonk 's . The  portaband or Sawzall  is looking like the answer to my problem. Guess I will have to order a new seal for the crank if I ever get the $%^&*() pulley off. Will work again tomorrow on the cast iron devil. Did get the front wheels back on the mobile and primed the inside of the hood ( bonnet ) for the other side of the pond. Rest period now in order .

This is the style puller you need Waldo.

Only use the 2 holes across from each other. I have the Snap on  version which is now close to 45 yrs. old.

Napa #7769062 $16 You will probably break it. Just throw the tractor in the truck and drive 10 hrs. up here. I'll only charge you dinner out at the BBQ joint up the road.:occasion-xmas:  You can stay At @rjg854's. I'm sure he won't mind. I won't even tell him you're coming. It will be a surprise! :banana-jumprope:
