ebinmaine 67,439 #1 Posted September 28, 2022 Well here's a neat find. Back about 40+ years ago Trina's family bought an old farmhouse here in the rural Maine town of Otisfield. Her mom found this Ledger book back then and has held onto it since. Something in passing conversation stirred the memory of it's existence the other day so she brought it over to share with us. I took a few pictures of the front and back covers and nearby pages. There are probably 30 more pages between... 3 1

Jeff-C175 7,200 #3 Posted September 28, 2022 (edited) This would seem to be the " W.W. Hamlin " on the cover. Seems he owned the Firestone Tire store in Otisfield. Is that name penciled in there " CHARLES J SMITH " ? Can't quite make it out. Maybe it's STANLEY ? Edited September 28, 2022 by Jeff-C175

There's a small bit of handwriting at the top of a page that I think shows a "For. Edwards". There is a Forrest Edwards road over there. Interesting connection.
953 nut 55,195 #5 Posted September 28, 2022 My grandfather and all successful farmers of that time kept a very detailed journal each year. It allowed them to determine the elements, natural and human induced, that would affect crop yield and milk production so they could improve their farms. One of my cousins has many of grandpas journals and she showed me the entry for January 13, 1913, the day my mother was born. It listed the morning and afternoon temperatures, amount of grain each cow was given, morning and afternoon milk production for each cow by name, chores accomplished such as sharpening harvest equipment for the coming season etc. The final entry was Daughter Born. The following day's entry contained a more detailed entry about my mom's birth. 2
