Removing spray paint from Chrome

Recommended Posts

Some laser rocket scientist previous owner partial sprayed the headlight bodies for my 856.  What is the best way to get it off the chrome is in decent shape.

I've done a couple things in the distant past.

Your hand wiping medium could be either a course cotton towel or 0000 steel wool.

Lacquer thinner and acetone are possibilities. Mag or chrome wheel polish.

My first inclination would be to try a white or very light colored coarse towel with the lacquer thinner and use sparingly. Luckily, the chrome can be polished up after paint is removed.

Yep, lacquer thinner or acetone - I prefer acetone:handgestures-thumbupright: - and a course cloth ..... Oh, and also a fair amount of  ----- ELBOW GREASE!!

My first choice, since the paint is already compromised, is to use good old fashioned DOT 3 brake fluid on a rag.

Acetone is he way to go, but protect yourself...this stuff is toxic.  Back yard, wind blowing away, gloves...read directions.  Acetone is the way to go.  :orcs-cheers:

I have used 800-1000 grit sand paper and soapy water to clean up chrome before…

Brake cleaner should melt it right off.

Or brake fluid.
