Skwerl58 704 #4 Posted September 21, 2022 That is a Katydid, bush cricket. See them here in SWVA starting in late August. They do make an interesting sound. 1

I spent a fair amount of time at my grandparents place in the summers. I heard that noise enough times for the first time every year at my grandparents place that I wasn't very old and I started calling them Gramma's house bugs. I still do, to this day. Even got Trina in the habit now. I don't think I knew what they really were until just 4 or 5 years ago.

Yossarian 208 #12 Posted September 21, 2022 Dang it, I finally had an answer for something on here and y'all beat me too it. When I moved from Louisiana to North Carolina years ago, a katydid hitched a ride on the dash of my (now) wife's car and rode the whole way. On account of his Cajun heritage,we called him Clabert (pronounced clay bear for you Yankees).
