Pullstart 62,902 #1 Posted September 20, 2022 … tire shop that it is. We’ve had Norman for 4 years. The Bridgestone on it were installed a mile after purchase. I sent ‘em to rubber heaven on the way to the shop! 1 1 2 1
JAinVA 4,619 #2 Posted September 21, 2022 Diesel torque, dirt launch, pavement termination is a good chance to blow an axle. Have fun while you are young.. When you get to be my age you can look back and go I can't believe I got away with that. Luck.JAinVA

TJ5208 1,824 #5 Posted September 21, 2022 I've always told dad might as well burn the tires off of it. Because new tires will be on it anyway. It has never worked.

Well I’ve never had him aligned, but there was no checking, cupping, uneven wear, or anything. Now I know the rears are nice and smooth!
ri702bill 8,326 #9 Posted September 21, 2022 We have a local Ma & Pa tire shop in town - they used to be in the capital city and made retreads in their shop there - not anymore. Seems passenger car and light truck retreads got outlawed here years ago. Anyhoo, I generally replace my tires when they are half worn and have sold the old ones to that tire shop, as they buy good used tires. (and I do not have to spend the state mandated $2.50 per tire disposal fee...) Yup, as a kid it was a common sight to see a tire retread "pelt" on the side of the road on a hot day...
ri702bill 8,326 #10 Posted September 21, 2022 When I got my Ford Ranger 4x4 in 2001, it had a set of Long Trail TA's on it, as the OE Firestones were recalled for sidewall failure. I could'nt WAIT to get those off the truck - they would pack with slush in the winter at low speeds, steering was really iffy. They too got to be half worn - no checking, no sidewall curb rash, no patches or plugs - a matched set of 4. Put them up on CL - got $100 for them from some fly-by-night used car dealer that wanted them for a Jeep Grand Wagonner so it could pass inspection - same size. He wanted to know if I had more!!

We had a Ford dealer who would put well worn tires on a rack outside the shop for free. He kept wondering why he would have 10 tires on the rack when he went home and have 14 on it in the morning. Some days it was the same amount but all different tires! I know why and I aint tellin but it wasn't me! Edited September 21, 2022 by squonk

ri702bill 8,326 #13 Posted September 21, 2022 Sounds like "someone" was trying to skirt the tire disposal fee - and doing a right fine job of it !!
