Anyhoo TJ and EB let's edumatacate you. Teckys were a lower priced motors in the day regardless of specs. Old man Kohler didn't build a world class golf course without beating Lauson did he. His engines were touted in the day as best in class for the buck. Oems had a different take they wanted a cheaper motor aka teckys. At least for their " budget " line. Boxes still sold even back then. Many OEMs went with Tecumseh as they were cheaper than Kohler's. If the OEM was a buck cheaper on every tecky motor they bought over Kohler and say they bought 10,000 motors how much would they save or in bean counter terms how much would they profit? Truth be told I have nothing personal against Tecumseh, my old man use to work there in their New Holstein plant. Basically aired up the tires, which by the way miraculously held air despite the huge cracks & missing chunks in the side walls. Then pushed it off the trailer. 'tis money makes the world go 'round... I was a Briggs guy 'til I got into Wheelhorse. Now I have No doubt Kohler is the engine with the better reputation for long lasting. Parts are an interesting subject with the older Techs. Nowadays we know the carbs from easily obtained web sources that fit the OE Kohler can be adapted. Ignition can be rebuilt on big blocks with modern components. Not sure on small blocks. pfrederi 17,739 #63 Posted September 21, 2022 Deck drive belt idler pulley when engaged should be rubbing out the Lawn Ranger decal. The scuff mark above the decal shows a too long belt was used at sometime.
