Wheel Horse 718-Z

P.S. Guys, I thought I posted this originally, but I have a good bit more square tubing laying around... most 1/2x1" rectangle steel.

So I can pretty much make anything I need/want...

I've also been considering possibly making a 'cage' around the engine... using the machine's frame as a guide...

I. just. don't. know.... :eusa-think:

That is a LOT to snag on things

So maybe something more like this, maybe a little taller... leave the tires clear?

Right, right. That's the other idea. :handgestures-thumbupright:

Well about the snagging.. I think this might help.

In my previous expertly drawn sketch I might not have made the 'design' very clear.

Maybe this clarifies things a bit.. keep the top and bottom rails parallel but go 'in' towards the wheels from the backside of the frame with an angle. Making the back bumper kinda 'rounded off' in the corners.. if that makes any sense?? :confusion-confused:

Hey guys!

So, I had to take Gracie to the vet today (she hurt her front left foot, so she had to get checked out... she sprained her foot and needs 3 weeks rest with anti-inflammatory medication)...

Anyway, at the vet's office, they were doing some minor construction.

We parked next to the maintenance truck, and when I was walking in the office, I noticed that there was a good bit of scrap metal in the back of the maintenance truck...

When I came out of the office, the guy who was doing the construction was out by his truck. I asked him what he was going to do with the metal... and he said that it was going to be scrapped. Being the bold... nut that I am... I asked him if I could have some...

He looked at me strangely... and asked, "what for"

I told him that I was in the process of making a bumper for my Wheel Horse tractor.

He said that he didn't have a clue what a Wheel Horse Tractor was... but said that I could take as much as I wanted. SO... I quickly grabbed these pieces :D:

Well, the other thing is... he wasn't the most... eh... 'good natured' fellow that I have encountered... so I didn't really want to push my luck. :P

Seriously though, those were really the only good pieces he had, the rest of them were... quite hacked up...

Got some items in the mail today. Still waiting on 1 pulley to come.

I decided to buy a legit rubber belt for this machine, rather than a kevlar coated belt. I didn't want to buy a cogged belt... I feel that they aren't very durable. SO, I paid the piper and bought a 1/2"x116" rubber v-belt. SO, the machine has a 5/8 rubber v-belt, and a 1/2 rubber v-belt, JUST like OEM.

I got the base of the bumper made today. I think I am going to design the extended bumper (the parts that will protect the wheels) after I finish the cage part. I have only used the scrap steel so far, none of the new stuff.

How it will look (I have to make the top bar tomorrow, it should match the bottom bar)

Got a little more done. Female lady woman came out in the garage and asked me what I was doing.

I told her that I was making a bumper for my Wheel Horse...

She rolled her eyes... but then said "that looks pretty good... you just make everything huh?"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

As far as attaching the bumper to the machine, I was considering going with square u-bolts to go around the tubing of the bumper and frame in this area:

Then I plan to fabricate an attachment point at the stock hitch area that would allow me to physically put a bolt through the bumper and hitch.

What do you guys think...? Got any better ideas, or anything I am not thinking about?

I do not plan to use the stock hitch ever again... I don't want to tow anything with this machine... (got 5 other machines that are free to tow).

EDIT:

'twas thinking about these here...

Looks awesome!   I like the idea of U-bolts, so it's easily removable when the need arises.

I think you should weld a plate of flat steel across the back so you'll have a place to put a big Snoopy decal (or paint it on), and maybe some WH decals, or something like that.

I got zero... zip... nada done today.

The FLW sent me on a wild goose chase to find chocolate chips for Christmas baking. No Walmart had what the resident female lady women baking department wanted.

I finally gave up, and went to Menards to buy some square u-bolts for the bumper... and guess what? They also had chocolate chips! :banana-dance:

I guess I should have just gone their first before wasting a tank of fuel running around to 45 different stores... :hide:

I'm home now with a dozen and a half of white, milk, and semi-sweet chocolate chips with u-bolts. I need some serious help... :laughing-rofl::confusion-helpsos::laughing-rofl:

Ah, but I'm sure that what the female lady women have in mind to make with those chips will make it all worthwhile.  Please share pics of cookies and/or other bakery delights.   Just keep the U-bolts out of the baking.

I feel that I absolutely NAILED the color that I was going for. True, I bought graphite... but I really can't stop looking at this color and smiling. It is a very loud color, but it looks very aggressive in person...
