I mean, doesn't the underside of the deck have to be dried? That is what I don't like about the hose feature on my z355e... it doesn't dry and the water gets all in the blade pulley systems... etc... Amazing how much dirt and grime that got rinsed and scrubbed off... At some point, possibly later today, I will pull the tires off and coat the frame in Rustoleum high temp paint. EDIT: I know from my other hydro units, they have a 'dump valve' After reviewing the Eaton service manual... it would appear to me that my hydro units indeed have dump valves that disconnect the transmission from the pumps so the unit can be pushed without running. Snoopy11 5,714 #124 Posted November 24, 2022 Putting the driveshaft back on the engine was not quite as hard as putting a mechanical fan back on a Ford Ranger engine... but for whatever reason... putting the driveshaft on this machine's engine was much more painful. I plan to retighten the bolts on the driveshaft 1 more time. Wiring-wise... this machine had very... VERY crappy grounding. Basically, 1 ground in front of frame grounded the whole machine. Now, this machine has ground to starter solenoid bolt (which also grounds other items)... and a ground to engine. New ground to chassis wire as well. I won't get much done on this machine tomorrow... going to spend some quality time with the family. I still have to repack idler pulley bearings, grease all the points on the machine, put the new belt on the deck, mount the deck, consolidate the wiring for the lighting system, and button up other odds and ends. Then, once my 2 surprise parts come, (should come by the weekend, but we shall see)... I will have to work on that. Don 1 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

It's also a self forming matt of water retention. A grass sponge that's well stuck to the underside of the deck. Most folks just aren't going to take the time to remove and rinse and dry and remount the mowing deck every time they mow .. or .. ever. At all. I'd MUCH rather have the deck wet with mostly water for a few minutes than the sponge of grass holding moisture in there for hours or days. Perfect solution?
