Where is the Lucas X-tra Heavy Duty Green grease?

Recommended Posts

Sailman

I am putting this in the tractor forum to get the best coverage.

Have tried to find the Lucas X-tra Heavy duty Green grease recommended by Pete Lena.

Wow! Impossible to find at any auto parts store or order. They say they can't get it.

Amazon has it for $30, Ebay has it for $40 and $70!

Amazon has Greasco for $20 but it is a Calcium sulfonate complex. I don't think Lucas is Calcium sulfonate complex.

Ebay has Schaeffers 02192-029 SynForce Green NLGI #2 Grease Heavy Duty waterproof (Tube) for $20 and it appears to be closest to Lucas.

Any thoughts out there?

Anyone know where to get Lucas REASONABLE price?

Any recommendation for substitute?

Thanks.

Agreed. One can get carried away with the relatively small differences among the premium greases.

As others have noted before me, this is not NASCAR, Indianapolis, or F-1 stuff we are working with.

HAVING fresh clean grease is much more important that the details of composition.

Home Depot no longer sells it.  They have the PB Blaster green grease and the Lucas Red&Tacky.

I was thinking of switching to a synthetic grease such as Mobil.  My Exmark uses Mobil HTS grease in the spindles.  Is anyone familiar with that grease?

I too cant get quite as excited as Pete on the greases. Like @squonk and @Handy Don I just strive to maintain grease being where it is needed and in a clean (as possible) environment. For instance switching to sealed bearings in the many places where they were not used by WH.

I use GAA  (that is army surplus Grease Aotomotive and Artillery)  seem to work.  any quality grease if you apply it correctly (and often enough) will work well...

This is interesting. I always picked that up in Wally World here in north Georgia. Maybe I'll have to make a pilgrimage to my Jasper store to hopefully score a spare.

I was in Wall Mart today. They had 0 tubes of grease of any kind.

We used to sell multiple brands of grease at Napa when I was there. You really can't go wrong with Red n Tacky, Kendall Super-Blue or any Premium grease. Anything is going to work better if you grease it once in a while. No sense making a federal case and driving all over the place looking for green grease. These are 40 + year old garden tractors. They worked fine and lasted with good old fashioned grease that Grandpa used to use.

Copy that on just a good quality grease will do. On that note the gal at NAPA told me they are having a hard time getting a number of grease products. My guess is problems getting ingredients. I use an Awlgrip 3 part polyurethane on my wooden charter boat and went almost a year unable to get it. They had to change the ingredients to be able to get it back into production. Then you add the EPA nonsense from the bureaucrats who have never produced anything in their life.....  and its a constant changing environment.

Well I went to Advance this morning they had 2 tubes of green and one tub of red. Now they need to restock if they can get it. Now all I have to do is remember where I put it away.  Hanging around with @squonkat  the BS messed with my brain cells. Still have not recovered.

You're brain cells got scrambled when @rjg854 and myself left you alone so you could chat in private with your new found friend! :hilarious:
