  3. I acquired an ARK 550 loader for my D-200. After I got it installed and tried to use it, the bucket cylinders would not hold the bucket in position with weight in the bucket. It appears that the cylinders need to be be rebuilt. I can move the cylinders and bucket up or down by pushing one way or the other. I assume the control valve is OK but don't know. I checked with a shop that does hydraulic repairs and it sounds like it would be about $100 per cylinder to rebuild them and two weeks because the shop is very busy. Does anyone have experience rebuilding these cylinders, have a link to a repair manual and know the parts and tool needed? Thanks, Jack.

    ARK OF THE DIVER

Last year while doing some house cleaning I also did some Horse Trading. I Acquired this Loader and the best I can tell it is an ARK 500 Loader. It is missing the undercarriage mounting so no doubt I will have to fire up Ole SPARKY and do some fabrication. I am in need of a MANUAL for it if indeed it is a ARK 500. I also will be mounting this up on a Newer 520 with gear reduction and front swept axle. I have a couple 520's both of which have one foot in the grave. One is late 80's and the other early 90's the 90's model has a running Onan but is Suspect on how good of an Engine it is. I would have to combine both tractors to make a usable machine. I would prefer to purchase a Better 520 that needs nothing done to it for this project just because this year I have enough on my plate. At that point the others will most likely be parted out Just to keep what I have running. Anyway If anyone has a very fine 520 I may be Interested. I also would love pictures of the undercarriage framework and measurements for a 520 if possible. And last but not least I could use a Manual for the loader. Thanks ~Duke

    Ark 508 loader

So i have an ark 508 loader on my c160. I was wondering if any of the other Ark FEL owners could tell me if there is a "float" postion in the spool valve?
  6. I knew when I bought this loader at the WHCC show that I might have an issue. Today was the first time since I acquired it that I had the time and good weather to start working on it. Here is the issue. The tractor is a 1996 416-H. The loader turns out to be a 1971 ARK 508-QM with self-contained pump. The hood on the 416 is wider (16") than the 1971 through 1979 models (12-1/2"), plus the side mounted muffler on the Onan conflicts even more. The closeup is a little out of perspective, but you get the gist of what my problem is. So, short of removing the right side upright from the loader and seeing if it will fit without conflicting with the muffler and the "Matt Foot Controls", I am stuck figuring how to install it, and if it will even fit. If I had a hoist, I guess I could lower it onto the tractor so the pump is past the muffler. Has anyone here done this on their 300/400/520 series horse?
  7. So, i ended up rebuilding curl pistons, worked great. Now, having lift issues. If i pull on the lift lever slightly, i still get the arms to go up. If i pull all the way back, the whole thing drops. If i leave it raised and fill the bucket, it stays up and dumps fine. Is it something in the control valve? Maybe an adjustment? Ark Loader

Hi folks. I have a D-180 with an FEL on the front of it. I finally got my D-180 up and running after lots of repairs. The loader needs some TLC. I was wondering if anyone has a copy of the manual or might point me in the right direction (Toro has nothing on it.) The tag on the loader says it's an ARK 7-3050. I'm not sure, but from what I read around the internet, it seems to be the same as an ARK 550. Anyhow, the tilt cylinders (one much more than the other) slide out after a few hours. Is this a problem with the cylinder or the spool valve? If it's the cylinder, is it just a matter of replacing the internal o-rings? I wonder if anyone has a source for them. The bushings and pins that connect the bucket to the frame and tilt cylinders are not all there. It appears to be a loose assortment of pins/bushings/bolts/washers. Not the best setup. I was wondering if anyone knows what the correct connectors are. I was able to check out the toro site, and there were a couple of poor resolution pictures to hard to identify parts that were finally listed as Not Available, so I guess the toro avenue is out. I was thinking that if anyone has a good picture of how it should be held together, I might be able to find the parts at McMaster or Graingers. Just a thought. Any help would be much appreciated. James
  9. HI, I have a 1979 Wheel Horse C161. Can anyone tell me if an ARK loader that's on a D180 would fit my C161? If so, would it need any modifications? Or which specific Ark loader model would fit my C161. Thank you so much for your help. I love my Wheel Horse. With my thrower attachment I cleared my one mile rural road through all the snow storms this past winter. Worked like a charm! Best, Jack

    ARK Loader

Needs some help. Purchased an ARK Loader - Model 550 Serial # 573 - anyone know what year this might be? Thanks, Edwroy
  11. Well the Grange Fair was a short visit! Started uninterrupted work on the loader at about 1:30 this afternoon. Finished at 8:20! It was worth it. After some cutting, grinding, filing and minimal cursing because I had no time constraints, I got it on. Thanks to my Karen who slid the tractor under the mount while I held the frame up. (Never made the stands. Used the brace arms to get it off the blocks). No leaks, no seeps, no noises, and full function of everything. Pump is very quiet and barely moves the vacuum gauge on the tractor. Much less work for the motor than my 48 inch mower deck. I didn't put the rear weight on so I took it easy and made sure everything was primed in the lines. Plenty of down pressure and fast movement. A big thank you to Malmac, Scott, Wallfish and the others who offered advice and posted pics of their loaders. The biggest pains in putting this on a 520 since it wasn't factory designed for any of the Onan powered tractors was the pump mount and the lever release/lock Attach a matic that is used on the newer tractors and the 1991 520-H. (My 1992 416-8 didn't have the lever design). It required cutting out a long skinny triangle from the thick metal original sub frame to allow alignment of the frame holes and shortening the actual lever. (The frame cut took three cutting disks and a good portion of a fourth). I also had some issues with the nut/bolt used on the front mounting bracket. The first frame hole on each side has VERY little room to start a nut. (Because of the gear reduction steering assembly). On the positive end, the factory brace arms leave plenty of clearance around the Onan and hood. My suction line to the pump will need moved since it is in harms way. I think the pump is OK where it is at with a guard to be made soon. I'll work it harder on Monday and really heat the oil up and check again for leaks or seeps again. I do have to weld a wallowed loader lift cylinder pin hole but even it isn't too bad. The others are real tight. Not bad for as old as it is and for 500 bucks. This was always a real want for me so please excuse my over exuberance. This makes the beginning of the work week a joy! It might take until noon at work tomorrow to wipe this grin off my face!
