416-8 with Onan P216 Engine The good: *576 hours *Nice, clean deck (42”) *Nice Plow *Wheel Weights *Chains *2nd owner. 1st owner sold the house in 2020 and said he was getting too old so he included it with the house. *Original receipts and paperwork and manuals. *Receipt showing tune-up and changing from the deck to the plow in November 2021 The bad: *The last time it was used was the winter of ‘21/‘22. It is currently set up with the plow. *Had trouble starting, when it started, it died after 4-5 seconds. He had a portable charger and it helped. We got it running, but when I turned it down to idle, it died. *I didn’t get a chance to test drive it because of this. *One front tire goes flat fast, one rear tire has a slow leak. *He is going to buy a battery before I look at it again on Friday so I can test drive it. What do you think is the issue? Is it the battery or fuel system? Do you have a way to verify what year this is with the ID number and serial number? Also, the ID number of the deck. I’ll upload pictures of the stickers. *He says his driveway has an incline so snow and ice would pool around his door opening so he got tired of his wheels spinning. He decided to pay for plow service. (Home is big and nice with a lot of land.) He also decided to get a zero-turn mower so that’s why this 416-8 wasn’t used since after winter ‘21/‘22. He’s asking $500.

I recently acquired a 520xi. She's a pretty sweet machine and I took a liking to her before she landed in my garage. I've used her a few times this spring to haul some brush around in her trailer. As the grass grew taller, however, I knew it was time to put the deck on her and start mowing. Note: this is my first wheelhorse, and also this was the first time I'd mown with her. Anyway, I did about half an hour of mowing (about half of my lawn), having turned her pto on and off a few times for various reasons, when at some point I turned the pto off to back out from between the dead-end swath between 2 trees I had just mown. I backed out, turned around, lined myself up to get back on track with the mowing, pulled the pto knob, and....nothing. Or so I thought at first. There is a quiet, though definitely present sound whenever I pull the pto knob on. At first I thought the blades might be stuck or something and the drive belt was sliding on the pto pulley. After some inspection, I found it wasnt. I prooved it wasn't by taking the drive belt off the pto and trying to turn the pto on. I still hear that same sound and the engine acts slightly stressed when I turn the pto on. One last thing. I turned the engine off, took the front grill off the tractor and tried to turn the pto pulley. It moves but is stopped by some kind of what looks like a safety stop (a bar on the pulley hitting a bar in the way). Anyway, this is where I'm at. If anyone knows or has any idea why what's happening is happening and/or how to fix it Id appreciate it very much.

I found 2 tractor I'm interested in buying. First let me give a summary of their intended uses: I just bought a house on 1 acre of land. It is not flat and has many medium to low degree slopes. Primarily I am interested in its mowing ability, but also tilling and snow blowing possibilties. Now to the tractors.... The first I found was a 520 xi kohler 20 h.p. engine with 380 hrs. Comes with deck and trailer. I talked the seller down to $1800. The second is a 270h kohler 20 h.p. engine with 73 hrs. Comes with Deck. Seller asking $850. Both may go soon would appreciate quick response. Thanks!

rebuilt it or replace it with good used? 417a siezed
workingwrench posted a topic in Wheel Horse Tractors
Never done any forums so bear with me, Just bought my second wheel horse yesterday. It is a (1986) 417a with a stuck engine, nice other than that. I bought it to use for parts, knowing engine had failed. However after getting it home, I'm torn some. It's just too nice to part out! It is actually a better tractor than my 312H from 1991. The engine turns over about a half turn then stops up, then turn opposite direction and until about the same place in the rotation of the engine and stops again. It appears that it was ran dry of oil, Not good, I figure a broken rod???? I have never torn apart a twin cylinder engine. I have found a used 17HP engine for it for $350. Do you all know if that is a good deal? Could my engine be rebuilt? if so how much? Any advice is appreciated thanks in advance. Not sure how to add pics or I would have. I even considered taking the 312h and swapping that engine into the frame of the 417a... but 5hp is a lot of difference. Should I avoid the 17hp series 2 engines? Thanks
