  1. As stated in another section my honey went and bought herself a 657 a few days ago. Sunday afternoon to be exact. Runs and drives quite well and had a very serious and non negotiable issue. It's Oliver green with Ford gray wheels. Other than that the work should be minimal standard stuff. Well of course she started tearing right into the disassembling of the lucky little tractor. We started to show the daily work being done to it and then realized we should really start a new thread in the proper location. So here's a few before pics as a reminder. Here's the end of Sunday results. And a pic from Monday nights work. After this was taken she found some spray on paint stripper and emptied the can on it. We left it on for 24 hours or so. And found red paint!!

    Show Tractors

My show tractors for October Festivals. RJ59, 1045, 657 w/sickle bar, 10HP and D200. Just love the attention and hearing the stories of grandpa or growing up had one. Always can see the joy these Horses bring to the spectators. Than telling them the WH history story along with Speedex story always intrigues them. Than of course there is always someone that needs to get one out of the way. Last year it was the 1045 and the PO was so excited to learn I got her running and been mowing my grass all summer. Of course I had to let him drive her around. This year it’s a 702 I think I getting this week. So many were engrossed by the Sickle Bar never knowing such was available on garden tractors.
  3. I'm accustomed to using Non detergent oil in all older small engines. Thanks to @pfrederi I have the manual for the Tecumseh and it says to use detergent oil BUT it is printed in 1998... Over 30 years after DOM on my engine. What do you folks use??
  4. I've ordered this set https://www.redoyourhorse.com/tecumseh-4-pc-engine-decal-set/ from our awesome vendor Terry @Vinylguy. I know where the balloon sticker goes and the oil sticker. Where does the large "Solid State" one belong?? Thanks!!
  5. The lower hole in the pic... Has Nothing in it. Is that correct?
  6. I need to put a couple of wheel bearings in my honey's transmission and then put it back together. I tried to drive 1 in by tapping in with a socket but obviously it was not quite big enough and damaged the outer ring. What do you folks use to drive those bearings in?
  7. @stevasaurus and all other transmission gurus. Below you will see a pic of a needle bearing and the end of the shaft on my honey's 657. I know I need to split the case and put in a needle bearing. My concern is that in the housing you can see a broken spot right at the top on the inside of the channel where the seal sits. There's a small piece of the casting missing. I'm not too concerned about the seal sitting okay because the rest of it seems to be in decent condition. I'm wondering if that little missing piece is super important or not that big of a deal. If it is a huge concern I will put an 8-speed in my b80 and give her the 4-speed out of that tractor.
  8. Look at the used to be red wire on the left and you'll see a bunch of frayed rope looking stuff. I'm wondering if I can just snap the end off and slide a piece of heat shrink down over it and then re-terminal the end. Can't see why I can't do that. Just wanted to run it by you folks....
  9. I have at least 7 hubs on different tractors that I would like to add a second set screw to. I have an older but good quality floor model drill press. I have the tap set. I don't recall ever using the tap set to do anything other than clean out threads. Not make my own thread set. Can anybody give any particular advice?
  10. We figured out tonight that my honey's tractor has tires on it that may very well be original to 1967. Thank you to @Stepney for bringing this to my attention. They say Wheelhorse right on the tire. We probably will not leave these on this tractor because it will be a functioning working tractor that may be hauling moderate to heavy loads. Who can say what the future holds but for now this is not going to be a full frame off restoration. The front tires are in very good condition as far as weather cracking and have quite a fair amount of tread. The rear tires have a lot of tread left but the printed side which someone has moved to the inside of the tires has quite a fair amount of weather cracking. The solid non printed side appears to be in very very good condition. Hence the swap I suppose. So the question is. Is there a market for something such as these? If so, Any thoughts on what they might be worth. To one of you, or someone else.
  11. We went today to pick a for my honey. '67 657. HH60. Runs and drives great! We are going to use it here on the acreage for moving loads of firewood and also as a secondary tractor when we go down into the forest so that she can tow the splitter and I can tow the wood trailer. Only real issue a big one... Wrong color. She's going to start taking it apart tonight to correct the error of someone else's ways. Mechanically, all it needs is fluid changes to axle and engine and a good tune-up. We would love to have all the information we can about this machine. Like for starters, why is the gas tank mounted to the engine instead of in the steering tower like my B&C series? We are wondering if maybe it is a replacement engine from a snow blower or something else? And, the muffler. Another reason why I think this may be a replacement engine. It points directly to the inside of the hood and nose area blowing carbon all over the place. We definitely want this to be a quiet machine so a straight pipe is out but what can we do or what should be there? Here's some pics.
  12. Hello Everyone I have a 67 wheel horse 657 and would like to get a tiller for it. Anyone have any idea if this is possible and what part numbers or parts I would need to gather? thanks

    657 engine ID

Hello all, I need help identifying what the engine model # is in my 657. I believe it is the original 6 hp Tecumseh w/ electric start. The cover is rusted out where the ID tag was. I need to know what engine it is so I can get some replacement parts. Thanks for the help.
