20 pointsAbout 30-35 years ago, a customer walked into our dealership and asked my dad if he'd be interested in buying a Wheel Horse tractor. Dad says lets go take a look. He goes outside and all he sees is a Dodge Caravan in the driveway. The guy opens up the liftgate and proceeds to unload this little guy. Dad asks how much ? He thinks he paid maybe $50.00 bucks for it. Needed a new transmission pulley , a recoil , and all the guards were missing. Pushed it off to the side , and eventually shoved off to a corner of the shed. Last summer I told dad to get it out and get it running. He did , installed the new recoil , new axle seals, rebuilt the carb, new points. And then I took over; the hood needed major surgery ( all the spot welds holding the 2 pieces together were busted, tank straps were cobbled on , bottom hood mount was gone ), we located a NOS belt guard, NOS muffler, NOS deck assembly, NOS air cleaner, new cables, etc...I had to paint the hood and some of the other replacement pieces, so I blended the paint into some of the surrounding areas in an attempt to keep as much of the rest of it original. Just like the Kohler powered equipment of that era , the engine is now a completely different color than the rest of it due to different paint processes.

8 pointsThis is what 8 inches of snow looks like in northwest Florida. "damn" Also, looks like a couple of Storm Troopers tried to swipe my old 603 carcass.

8 pointsYears ago whilst shoveling my mom's driveway my sister let her Irish Setter Casey out to play. She got into the recycling box and dragged out a milk jug and started chasing it all over the icy driveway. It just kept skidding away from her. I had a good laugh. With the ice we had last week and a little snow the other day the back yard is pretty slick. I tossed out an empty juice bottle and let Faith take it from there. She's been out a couple of hours now and won't come in!

7 pointsNational Poop Day takes place annually on the day after Super Bowl Sunday, and is on February 10 this year. It’s a fun day to celebrate and educate ourselves about the importance of our body’s natural functions, especially our excretory and digestive systems. National Poop Day was created in 2016 during a Polling Place election at the Madison Children’s Museum. The children passed a referendum to allow for the celebration of National Poop Day. The day is meant to celebrate and explore one of the most vital functions of the human body. The word ‘poop’ is said to be derived from the Indo-European word ‘pu’, which is linked to the words, ‘putrid’ and ‘putrefy’. Poop has been given a number of names over the years, ranging from feces to excreta, to droppings. After a meal, it takes about four to six hours for the stomach to be emptied of food. However, it takes an average of 36 hours for food to pass through the colon so considering the abundance of food consumed during the super Bowl the holiday should probably be move to the third day rather than the day after.

6 pointsIsn't there an app for that now? Asking for a friend...

6 pointsBetween my truck, Mrs. P’s 550 hp Suburban and the lifted Dodge, it took 12 wheels turning and over 1,000 hp to get me out! I was up to the top of my passenger fender in the ditch, and the plow was buried too. My little military shovel got quite the work out! We also lowered the cylinder on the plow and shortened the chains about 8”, getting it some extra and much needed clearance. *I won’t mention how many times we snapped the 4” yank strap, but Mrs. P managed to do this to the bolt I had in her her hitch…

6 pointsI have had both and both are nice. If you are looking for comfort, the Lxi is the machine. Power steering, very stable on slopes, high low range transmission, and a awesome foot control for the hydro. As far as fuel economy, that liquid cooled Kawasaki engine is a sipper, and there is a lot less operator heat. Parts are out there and just as available as the other WH stuff. A 60 inch deck is available and they cut nice. The 48 uses the same shell and spindle parts as the 3,4 and 500 series, The deck hanging hardware is different. Snow plow is longer, 2 1/2" longer than the 520 with an extension, can be modified to fit if necessary. Tillers will work but use a different belt arrangement and mule drive. 400 hours is not that much if someone changed the oil. The LXI I have on my FEL has 1700 hours. Runs okay but is a little tired. I would expect to see a low hour machine between 1-2K. I still have a 14HP hydro machine and every now and then I get nostalgic and run it.......but that wears out quick and I am back on the bigger machine. The 522xi has the mower deck now. I suppose the older I get, the more I lean toward comfort.

5 pointsDecided I wanted this Dewalt kit, my wife ordered it from Amazon at 9:05am today. And it was dropped off on my porch TODAY at 6:15pm! Incredible! Sears really missed the boat on on-line shopping, they could have been “Amazon”.

5 pointsInstalled #50 roller chain on front wheels. Chain is 50.75” long center to center not including connecting link. Hopefully this will help with steering on ice.

5 pointsWe used to have a "tree sealer " when I worked at a golf course in HS. I patched the floorboards of my 61 Ford Falcon with it!

5 pointsBeing involved in the Plumbing trade since 1971 every day is poop day to me. Not the cleanest way to make a living but I have enjoyed making a real good living all these years and still work part time. It's not all dirty and there are jobs that don't require dealing with poop. After all I have WH tractors to feed. Was not aware of this celebration.

4 pointsI accomplished my goal! At what cost I don't know yet, my back will tell me tomorrow haha. So yes all of the concrete is out now!! Don't let the floor fool you it is all rotten. The giant pile of concrete. After looking at it, and not wanting to move it again. I think I may hire someone to grind it up to use as gravel. Next thing to do is get this beam under the floor beams. And I found another license plate this time 1940

4 pointsYou’d think that poop day would immediately follow fart day! After 30 years old, you can’t trust a fart! Maybe after National fart day should be National new britches day? I’m too pooped to poop thinking about it, but 36 hours? Really? I know that there’s no possible way that angry little Mexican I ate for lunch yesterday is still shooting off his 6 gun and bouncing off the walls inside me! *edit*. @SylvanLakeWH had to tag you buddy so you could effectively find another visual you wished you hadn’t!

4 pointsIf only I could coax my brain to grok the actual tool requirements before arriving at the repair site!

4 pointsHere’s a two fooop too. A week or two ago there was a car in the ditch pretty bad at the end of our road. I went to go help, and began by planning to plow the road a bit and make a clearing to pull. Well, I miss calculated the ditch. Fooop!

3 pointsMuch like the EPA average gas mileage estimates, the time between entrance through the upper orifice and exit through the lower orifice my vary depending on your eating habits and the amount of bacteria hiding in your food. Whatcha think @SylvanLakeWH, is that a good enough explanation?

3 pointsI cleaned up the throttle plate/serial no plate on the suburban 550 I picked up over the weekend. Serial number is 36913. Another one to add to the list. Hard to see in pics. But with a printers loupe I have you can see a lot clearer. Gonna try to recover what I can from the 400s plate. But that one is gonna be tougher to recover.

3 pointsThat is surely a bummer! Washer fluid is rated and a lot of it sold around here for cheap is good only down to 0º F--you have to hunt a bit (and pay more) to get the stuff rated lower. I look for -35º. Also, the anti-freeze additive’s effectiveness does degrade over time--I check the date on the jug when buying to be sure I’m not getting old stock. A freeze in your car’s reservoir is as undesirable as a split tractor tire.
-
3 pointsIt's pretty wide for that reason, and so if I tow it with a tractor it won't tip. Any heavy items will ride in the bottom. But I despise walking back and forth to the garage. I can drop in the tools I expect to use and pull like a wagon one trip instead of many.

3 pointsDan How mechanically inclined are you? Any chance we can guide you DIY? Many of us here are well versed in these engines. We have some comprehensive Kohler manuals here and it may be as simple as popping the head and chasing the plug threads. The base pan gasket is very easy to replace. Having the right tools can be a pitfall in DIY but not much is needed in the way of specialty tools. Some just make it easier. Other wise a suggestion is to contact local power centers and shops to see if they have any interests or suggestions. Be advised that it costs much more at a shop than DIY. There is always ship it to one of us but again $$. For instance I have a 181 SG motor ready for work. I would want 300 for it with your core motor on trade but shipping is a killer. BTW we love our here!

3 pointsMy baby girl has grown up a bit in the last couple years, but she had a fun time at Uncle Jim’s trail riding with us, wrenching on tractors, then running the quad and discing up the fire roads and garden. Her work entitled Uncle Jim to a trade that I lost a 701 engine, and she gained the 401 sans rear tires.

3 pointsLook famiiliar Kev??? I had a all original one just like it that I scored in the UP. No where's near that shape tho. Traded it to @Pullstart for a 701 motor. Had the best running Clinton even after it sat. I think it was @wallfish that suggested that was a 401 that was a stripped down with those tires no tool box & a cheaper Clinton (at the time) for a budget price to entice buyers into an affordable rider. I would imagine it could have been accessorized. Know anything about that Brian? We actually worked it to drag brush to the pile and was the hit of the day with @PeacemakerJack 's boys for a ride around at the first plow day. Even plowed with it.

3 pointsAs trucking jobs go I'm lucky to have one that has some people movement. Some. I drive less and move more than anything over the road or even most regional work. That said, I've noticed a decline in my ability to stand all day in the warehouse without pain. I've also noticed the above mentioned decrease in strengths that aren't needed daily. That's a big "driver" here... We'll be doing more of that this year than the past several. As much as we love helping other folks, building two tractors for our friends and my parents has been occupying a LOT of our needed home shop time along with recreational time. This year we'll be focusing on getting both of us in better physical condition.
-
3 pointsIt might be there this year. Is the engine a Clinton or a Kohler? I'm picking it up tomorrow.

3 pointsGot some assembly done today. Still gotta build the handle/ hitch and fab some tie rods. But this will be the setup. Paint looks kinda awful. Oh well, it's gonna get dirty anyway.
-
3 pointsSome forward progress & 1 set back. First the forward progress. Got the body work done on the sheet metal. Paint stripped off the transmission, ready for a wash & some paint. Pulled the head off from the engine to see what was what. This was the set back. I was planning on just a paint over haul on this one but plans have changed. When I pulled the head I thought "Holy piston wash Batman". Well guess I'm doing an engine rebuild too. Given this fact the engine is now torn down and ready to go to the machinist as soon as the new parts get here. Crank measures out perfect, bore is not out of spec but finding the early small bore parts is not easy. So late model 2 15/16" bore will be in order. Took the time to blast all the engine parts as well. Wanting more forward movement I decided to squirt a little more paint. All I got for this weekend.

3 pointsOkay so it’s not exactly a side shot! But I did get some seat time today, we got around 4” last night. First time since 1984 that I didn’t leave my house to have to go plowing and sanding. Felt kind of weird being able to stay home and not have to go to work in the middle of the night. I waited until it was light out then plowed the driveway with my 418-C and went back inside to the wood stove.

2 pointsI wait for the deals where you basically buy a battery and get the tool for free...! The other option I have is my mower and snow blower are Dewalt 10 ah and 12 ah batteries... interchangeable with all Dewalt hand tools... so I can run them for a loooong time...

2 pointsHad to make a small mod to mine Ritchie. A little notch so it can drop on the stand plugged in like the one above. Also glued the foot on.

2 pointsWhen it dropped in, I just started laughing! No sense being worked up! The dude in the ditch was late to work, I had a nice warm home a mile away. We had fun, then hugged it out when we got his car out! I plowed the 10” thick drifted snow out of the intersection, and called it a night. I think he called in to work.

2 pointsI think @Pullstart has one of these in his heard. They are said to be beasts. Like any piece of machinery, the durability and reliability depend on how it has been used and maintained.
