15 pointsCame across this picture last week on the Web. I have a good idea who snapped it unbeknownst to me. That was my boat lift, dock behind it and 1999 Lund Pro Sport with factory cover on the lift. The beach was shared with my neighbor. I bought this wonderful property in 1994 and sold it in 2018. Miss everything but the property tax. Patti and I would motor up the lake in the summer around 6 pm ish into our favorite cove all alone and wait for sunsets sitting next too each other in the bow. Nothing short of amazing. GOOD TIMES. This sunset is looking towards Moosehead lake in Greenville, Maine, another favorite of mine, 45 miles long . Fortunately I am back there with my good friend who ended up with the adjacent property where my C-165-8 now resides. Can't wait to get back there.

7 points52O-8: New brakes and new shifter boot after tightening up the dog point screw a wee-bit. Got the hitch-pin out …found spacers and put it back together correctly with a good smear of grease. Baby steps…but progress nonetheless.

6 pointsThis 4700 belongs to a former customer of mine. Tried to buy it 20 years ago but he wanted to keep it to bring it to Vermont at his second home to have it for his retirement years, don't blame him. It's original owner, maintained by the dealer and always garaged for the most part. Used for mowing 50 acres and snow removal. Tractor Data shows it as built 2 years 2000-2001 48 HP, seems like a short production run ? I have heard that the info through TD is not always correct, anyone confirm ? Really nice clean tractor. @oliver2-44 @sergeant @Achto

6 pointsHappy National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day! Surprisingly, this holiday was invented in New York in the middle of the winter. Created in the 1960s (clearly, because it’s a groovy idea), the day is further proof that you can eat ice cream at any time of the year, any time of the day, and on any occasion. So on the first Saturday in February, go ahead and get your treat on. Before noon. We won’t judge. In a recent study in by Kyorin University professor Yoshihiko Koga, people who consumed ice cream for breakfast showed better reaction time and were able to process information better than those who did not have ice cream. Delving deeper into the science, Koga found that the people who had ice cream first thing in the morning had an increase in high-frequency alpha waves, which are associated with higher levels of alertness and reduced mental irritation. Vitamin A, B, C, D and E are found in every scoop of ice cream. Thiamine and niacin are much needed by the body as well—and guess where you can find them? The Vitamin K in ice cream can help reduce blood clots as well. Taking your vitamins never tasted so good. So throw away those nasty gummies and have a scoop of what the doctor ordered!

5 pointsNot to early to get started @Ed Kennell? Real mild winter here & shed hunting today. Hard to fill those 12 doe tags i had when they are all named ... Missus dropped a bucket of bird sunflowers here. Pearl in the lilac bush supervising. Hauled a road kill? little guy to the river for eagle food. Set up a camera over it for possible pics.

4 pointsSome of you may remember this tractor being a 1056? It was in bad shape when I picked it up. But slowly working on it. The steering wheel was busted clean by P O. So thanks to @JimSraj for the s/wheel and Mike’s horse barn for the Shaft. Now I have something to steer by. Also engine runs real rich buy the black soot. I did the points two carbs also adjusted these carbs with the same result. I am going to take the head off to see how the valves are doing. Any info on this is welcome.

4 pointsGot about 3 hours on it today and actually made good progress tried the grinder and it kinda worked it just wasn't going to be fast enough. So I went back to using the good ole sledge hammer. I would say I got a little more then 1/4 of it done. The issue with renting a jackhammer is I can't really just bust it all up and go back to pick it up as the wood floor underneath is barely hanging on and I don't trust stepping on anything but the concrete or where the beams are. My trailer is getting a bit beat up. Going to have to replace that rear angle piece with a way heavier duty angle iron. I don't have a tailgate for it, so whatever on those guides haha. My concrete pile is growing.

4 pointsLike Don noted above, the instinct to track and hunt is primarily genetic in the hound breeds. All my beagles were offspring of hunting dogs and 90% were good hunters. Some had no desire to hunt and became great indoor lap dogs. I did introduce all the pups to the scent and sight of rabbits early by using a roll cage. I made my own from two 12"dia. plywood ends with swivels and handles that I could use to roll the live rabbit around the yard with the pup following. Where I worked there were plenty of rabbits that I live trapped and used for training pups. After they were accustomed to and enjoying following the rolling rabbit, I left them in the pen and rolled a trail leaving the cage within their sight. The next step was to start the rolled trail within thier sight but then dissappearing behind a building requiring them to actually use the scent to find the rabbit. Next step was to release the rabbit within their sight Some would trail slowly by track scent not moving from a track until they knew where the next track was. Some would trail faster by body scent sometimes being 5-10 feet downwind from the ground track. I could ID each one in a pack of five by their distinct voices. The bark, bawl, bay, howl, chop, and whine.

4 pointsJim looks like you are doing it right. Doing things the right way always take up so much time. Doing it quick is never the right way. Enjoy the project and the ride when done.
-
4 points@pascal Plancke Any picture of a tractor is a good picture, condition has nothing to do with it. Also helps us to see what you're working with and better diagnosis what it needs.

3 pointsI picked it up this morning. I was able to secure the tractor, deck and plow for two bills. He wants another bill for the weights. Upon preliminary glances (wife has other plans for me so I didn’t have time to dig into it) I found the steering free. The key switch is mangled. Seems as if someone tried to jam a screw driver into it. Battery is of course dead and the fuel system seems dry. All 4 tires are either leaking or not holding air. The axle seals are toasted and seeeping oil. The engine seems to be locked up due to the mouse house . ( I was able to get a glimpse of it through the flywheel cover.) More pictures coming soon.

3 pointsHours Mike. That had at least several hours of usable life left.

3 pointsThanks for the start up Jim. I pulled my trail cams to save the batteries. All my deer have yarded up for the winter and are located in a soy bean field a 1/4 mile down the road. Looks like about two dozen in the herd at night. They will break up and return when ready to drop the fawns in a couple months.

3 pointsI started drawing last year at 63. Not one bit sorry either. I have been paying into that since I was 16. I remember my 1st paycheck that had it withdrawn. I was pumping gas through the school work program. Before and during that time I was also milking cows and doing chores and fieldwork on our family farm. While doing the farm work. Pay was gas in my beater car bought at an auction. Maybe a few dollars to go to the fair and such. But never any taxes or SS. My first (Town) check had these mystery deductions. I didn't like that at all. I always say, I am all about privatizing the program, Give me a check for the amount I have paid in for 47 years and I will invest it myself. I talked with a financial group when I decided to retire and take SS at 63 instead of 68 which is when I would get the full amount. The difference would have taken 13 years to balance out. Every time we turn around, some other government entity wants to stick their grubby fingers into the cookie jar. I didn't want to wait til' the jar was empty.. Everyone needs to make their own decisions on how to handle it.

3 pointsBeing raised by my Grandfather who was an independent Appalachian Billy that dug his own coal, raised his own food, built his own house, took care of his family and neighbors and was not dependent on anyone, Is probably why I prefer to be independent and self insured. When I started working for our Township for $0.67/hour in 1959 mowing brush and shoveling snow, I was shocked to find I was required to contribute to a social security system. No ww web in 1959, so I visited the library and learned there were a few groups exempt from joining the SS system. 1. federal employees 2. a small group of local government employees in Texas 3. railroad employees

3 pointsHmmmm. We are going to have breakfast at our favorite diner this morning. Think it would be appropriate to have a piece of cherry pie with a scoop of ice cream drizzled with chocolate sauce to celebrate?

3 pointsFriday. I got the Input shaft, brake shaft and right axles seal gently pried out without to much trouble. I sanded and honed the shafts smooth and taped the keyways to protect the seals as I slid them on. I used the input pulley and rear hub as a slide hammer on those shafts to tap the new seals in. Used some 3/4 pvc to tap in the brake shaft seal. The input pulley has some heavy rust that turned into holes when I wire wheeled it clean. Thankfully I have a spare. I also wire wheeled cleaned the clutch idler and engine pulley. Got distracted and sanded the shifter balls to remove the oxidation. Then buffed them on a cloth polish when on my grinder with white roughe compound. At least something is shiny. Back to the steering wheel. I drilled the roll pin out with carbide masonry drill bits. Then I used a 3 jaw puller to pull the hub off the steering shaft. The heat broke it loose and it came off semi easy. I used a snap gage and micrometer to measure the cylinder bore top and bottom 4 places. I got 3.281 to 3.282 While my measurements aren’t perfect they tell me this cylinder was bored 0.030 thousands oversize. The top of the piston is not stamped oversize, but it seems some of the aftermarket ones are not stamped oversize

3 pointsThursday I got some honey-do done, change the oil and rotated tires on her car and my truck. Put some pre emergent on the yard, planted a bundle of 50 onion plant in the garden. Back to the C101. Blasted the brake band and after soaking the brake lining in the ultrasonic cleaner then sanded the back a little to clean off old glue. Wrapped the brake drum in plastic wrap and clamped lining and band around drum. Glued the lining back in with Goop. The rust pitting on the PTO is bad about a 1/2” in around the face. Since it junk, I’m going to try a long shot to save it. I plan to blast a good anchor profile in the pitted areas and fill them with some Extreme Heat JB Weld. I have a used clutch disc I’ll put on So if it fails I won’t waste a new one. Removed the front PTO snap ring and tapped out the front bearing. Removed the seal and will regrease it with some Red and tacky grease. The carb and fuel pump are soaking and will get run through the ultrasonic cleaner a few times. Pulled the breather to clean it and check the valve tapped clearance. Y’all remember the steering wheel wired together in and earlier picture. I saved the cracked steering wheel on my C81 a few years ago by JB welding the hub back in the cracked wheel. This one is cracked worse, but I’ll give it a try. Heated the rusted hub and roll pin to loosen it up a little.

2 pointsTD is Not terrible! But certain Brands have more of the Inaccuracies on the site then others. That usually can be with some of the Smaller Brands. But even some of the Larger Brands Have issues; Cub Cadet is a Prime example. They Have the Cub Quiet line as being made until 1980, when it actually left Production By IH in Summer 1979. But a dealer could have still sold remaining stock in 1980, But it was a 1979 model. Not a 1980 Model . With Deere I will say Pete(owner of TD) is Pretty Good

2 pointsI can relate. My shock was having to pay union dues for a summer job in a factory. (I knew about Social Security as my grandfather was a recipient.) Only later did I gain a more nuanced and useful understanding of unions and management, as well as their strengths and foibles. Important knowledge.

2 pointsBurnt Meadow Pond just north of me in Brownfield. Beautiful place with very good fishing. It's a largemouth bass hotspot but the State tries to keep it as a trout pond. NO LIMIT on bass.

2 pointsFraught topic, for sure. Many, many different points of view and characterizations of actions taken (or not taken). With so many millions of recipients in so many different financial situations, any change or adjustment is guaranteed to yield winners and losers. And NO ONE wants to be a loser!

2 pointsThe justification for borrowing at zero interest was that the trust fund was not invested and drawing interest so they were saving us money by not doing so. On paper the money was restored to the system. I could go on but don't want to be kicked off the site.

2 pointsPicked this up today! I know it's not a Wheel Horse but I always wanted one. It runs too! Chrysler made them initially for the military in 1979. Sold publicly 1979-early 1981. It will break down & can be packed up. Weighs only 70lbs. I already ordered a high performance sprocket, clutch, muffler, & exhaust which should make it faster to accelerate & double top speed!
