I started my first week in 2025 by falling into a N.O.S brand new 315-8 60th anniversary. (Last year made ) Today picking up parts to another local dealer 15 minutes from work I walk in for parts and come out with nos Xi series 36” Tiller - 48” deck - grader —300/400/500 grader . Pure luck right in my own backyard. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with the XI stuff as I’m not a Xi collector ….

Blood test results came back negative!! No more chemo for now. They will re-test in March.

520-8 … Kerosene flush and drain of the transmission and two qts of 80/90 back in. Will most likely do a better flush when it’s not so darn cold here. Removed the garage door spring and installed the proper clutch return spring. Speaking of cold, it was 5 degrees over freezing this afternoon so I gave it a quick pressure wash.

Speaking of weather…y’all folks up north need to come down and get your weather, she got drunk and ended up in my front yard last night Would be a good day to burn the brush in the pit out at the farm, but instead I’m stuck at work. Sure glad we sold the last of the wreckers we had before this came in. Someone else can have all of that fun

my grandson and i rescued an abandoned C165-8 a couple yrs ago that had a damaged gear shift boot - thus all the rain got into tranny over a couple years -- took 3 flushes with kerosene before all the milky was gone -- then we put in new 80-90 --

just back from , dr x rays on hip replacement , gave me a spot on , for where I am in recovery , especially liked my daily walking / activity / naps . he said , unfortunately too many patients do very little , as they should , to stay with opportunity . then they come in here and complain , and critical early movement was never established , staying at it , my walks are much better , and daily stair climbs , much easier , also used a dense foam pad to side seat support / enhance iced gel pad , that by itself eliminated a pain pill , staying upright . pete

Today in Lower Bavaria

Wheelhorse_kid and I started our next project a 854 that we have had here for a while. He got it in a package deal with 5 other tractors and a ton of miscellaneous parts. The previous owner clearly tinkered with it and built a custom tow truck attachment built out of a wheel horse snow plow frame. We knew the engine was stuck so tonight he started taking parts off of it while I made dinner. The mower deck came off and won’t go back on unless we decide to go a different route. Under the head is pretty nasty with tons of rust/dirt on the piston. The cylinder wall at the top is pretty rough. Hopefully we can get it cleaned up and useable. I was impressed with how easily all the bolts came out of the engine clearly the guy had worked on it. Maybe even trying to get un seized. The starter generator was also seized I was able to free it up some what. He discovered that the shifter shifts into all the gears but for some reason the pattern is way to the left it must be bent. It has 5 bolt hubs on it. Was that common on 854’s or did someone swap them? We both like the idea of a tow truck tractor but don’t like how he mounted it. We plan to revamp how it mounts add front weights and maybe doing ag tires all the way around. Everything will be built so that it can come off easy enough if we ever want to put it back to stock. Looking forward to working on this project with him over the winter and into the spring. Hoping we can get it up and running

I bought some Milwaukee impacts at home depot they have some good deals right now. I already own Milwaukee M18 tools so that was a motivation for me to keep with Milwaukee. I have just used ratchets so far, but impacts are very useful for those stubborn nuts and bolts. It's probably a little more of a luxury item for just working on Wheelhorses, but if you work on cars too it's well worth it.

Conowingo, Holtwood, Safe Harbor, and York Haven dams are all good sources of food for the Susquehanna River eagles. I live about 10 mile from the river and have many nests in the area. When possible, I pick up road kills and place them in areas where it is safe for the wildlife to feed. The eagles love to follow the train that we use to stock trout from in the spring. The golden trout are easy pickings.

Amazing that you have a NOS machine. Likely the last if not one of the last of such a thing. And it sure is Purdy! Somewhere around here on one of my old computers I have a PowerPoint of the last production run of that machine. There were pallets of engines, transmissions, and all kinds of parts.

As an aid to whoever gets this tractor, I went over it today and liberally dosed every joint and fastener that I could get at with one of my go-to penetrants, Liquid Wrench. Also, did some cleaning (a more thorough job will await non-freezing weather--maybe Monday.) Made some discoveries, too. The shifter loosened right up for fore-aft moment and, without forcing, a smidge into the four gear positions--promising! The input pulley still doesn’t turn. I’m thinking to find the plug, drain the transaxle, and then fill it with diesel or Mystery Oil to soak. One rear wheel’s hub is loose on the axle. There is small differential movement from one wheel to the other. After removing the remnants of the front tires, the front wheels spin easily and one tube seems usable! The rear AGs, after jacking the rear up to take the weight off them, actually started returning to shape! Then, with the caked on crud removed, I realized they are NOT rotten--there is some cracking in one sidewall, but I think on good rims with tubes, they are probably usable! The steering is stiff but moving down to the fan gear at the bottom. The steering collar, the tie rod linkages, and maybe the spindles will need some more soaking with penetrant. The mower deck is attached using the “stock” system of two long bolts through the frame. I plan to get this off so I can assess its condition.

Since 1984 I have been in the snowplowing and salt/sanding business. I started with my trusty Work Horse GT-1800 as a kid and building it up to having five trucks at one point. Luckily having good drivers who knew the business and cared about my equipment. It is bittersweet that this year I’m retiring from it, so I’m thinking it’s probably going to snow like crazy this year and I’ll be home thinking about all the money I’m missing out on! However I’m also looking forward to being able to stay home and not have to go out in blizzards at 2 in the morning. There was a time when I was young that I thrived on it, couldn’t wait to go plow snow in the worst of it. Now I have my fleet of Wheel Horses at the ready, and I’m prepared for whatever Mother Nature brings. My plan is to have them staged in my garage, go clear my driveway, then come back in the house and put a log on the fire and watch the snow come down! Something else I’m looking forward to is having my granddaughter with me so we can play in the snow. That is something I never really did with my kids because usually by the time I got done working all I wanted to do was go to sleep! Anyone who has been in the business will attest to that. Lastly I think we are all looking forward to seeing RS members posting pictures of their Wheel Horses in action removing snow. Be safe out there everyone 👍🏻

These tires are great I got them for forty the pair from a surplus go cart site and they are four ply and speed rated. No chains needed and Long term plan is to add the other blade to abC,160 auto and make a centering bracket for it. The Predator 420 is an excellent engine and can be counted on to start the second pull regardless of the weather I have never used a battery to start it because there is no need to put one on when it starts so easily
