We got about 5" of pretty dense snow from this mornings storm. So I decided to video the 312H with foot pedal motion control. The video is 7 minutes long, so get comfortable. It took 7 minutes to clear one of the 5 paved driveways about an hour total for all fiveand another 30 minutes to clear the stone road. You can see the speed and ease of raising and lowering the plow and constant changing of direction. This would probably take an hour with a gear drive and manual lift. The stone road cleared in 30 minutes. Sorry, 5" snow wasn't enough to justify firing up the Ber Vac Deuce.

Now that the snow removal is done, it's time to haul some firewood...

Well I was 5 minutes into plowing snow this morning and slipped a drive belt and upon inspection it was shot, and probably the wrong size to begin with. Took 45 minutes to run to the local TSC that's only 6 miles away and replaced the belt and finished my driveway. 10" of snow is a once every 10 year event for us in Cincinnati!

Today after work I, *drained the old gear oil I had in the 308 as I had a leak and it looked iffy and runny so I figured why not. I drained it at 4, by 10:30 when I quit for the night, still no leak. *refilled it with 2 quarts of new 90wt oil, *checked the idler on the 308 and it was loose I tightened it and it’s much quieter. * found out through my father that one of my cousin used to own my 308. so both tractors, were owned by a member of my family at some point. As for the current topic, as a Hannaford HTG employee. Bread, booze, and milk seem to be in the top 3 for storm supplies. The mere mention of a storm, and the bread vanishes. ‘Working on the 308. The old oil.

Since 1984 I have been in the snowplowing and salt/sanding business. I started with my trusty Work Horse GT-1800 as a kid and building it up to having five trucks at one point. Luckily having good drivers who knew the business and cared about my equipment. It is bittersweet that this year I’m retiring from it, so I’m thinking it’s probably going to snow like crazy this year and I’ll be home thinking about all the money I’m missing out on! However I’m also looking forward to being able to stay home and not have to go out in blizzards at 2 in the morning. There was a time when I was young that I thrived on it, couldn’t wait to go plow snow in the worst of it. Now I have my fleet of Wheel Horses at the ready, and I’m prepared for whatever Mother Nature brings. My plan is to have them staged in my garage, go clear my driveway, then come back in the house and put a log on the fire and watch the snow come down! Something else I’m looking forward to is having my granddaughter with me so we can play in the snow. That is something I never really did with my kids because usually by the time I got done working all I wanted to do was go to sleep! Anyone who has been in the business will attest to that. Lastly I think we are all looking forward to seeing RS members posting pictures of their Wheel Horses in action removing snow. Be safe out there everyone 👍🏻

I prepared for the big forecasted snow too. I made sure the blower would start, checked the gas cans, packed the car and drove to Florida. So far so good.

Ok since the Packers flopped ... it's Squonks fault .. yah go ahead and gloat @stevasaurus Had time to get # 3 in the shop and look it over. This one is a real mess too and far from being a 702. I may be a ungies monkel but since when did a 702 have this?? A franken for sure. Whats worse is no other way to ID it Tag under dash is covered up by the HY mount and motor ... Pssst ...what a piece of junk. Most certainly a replacement with no tag either. Tell me what's wrong here eagle eyes. No spark but ran when parked ... and no biggy but a blown head gasket and mice fer sure in the tins. Will track down the no spark issues tomorrow and see if she pops. Most likely points and or cobbled ignition switch. More on it tomorrow I gotta go watch Squonkies Queenies win ...

Spent the weekend prepping the new shop up grade. recently purchased a large gas powered air compressor and had to set up an enclosure for it. Day one, put the 4x9 shed together. This would not have taken all day had every single painted piece not been covered in protective plastic. Spent half of our assembly time pealing that crap off. Finished assembly on the second day and then it was time to move the compressor and shed to their new home. Wheel Horse parts came into play with moving the compressor. Slid a 3/4" bar through one of the fork pockets and installed some front wheels from one of my Horses on it. Then used some hose clamps to attach a bar to one of the handles. Then two of us could easily move the compressor into place. After the compressor was in position we slide the shed out to it. We lifted one end of the shed and slid it in to place. Compressor and enclosure in their new location and spiked down with 5/8" x 30" rebar. Even a little room left to store a few extras. A bit of plumbing left to do inside the shop and we will be ready to do some winter resto's.

Full synthetic 10w30 might flow easier at low temps too. Since it doesn't cost much more anymore it might be worth a try. I did that with my 520HC that has a delay as well and that did help some.

Picked up a 520-8 today, no motor, needs a lot of love. But should be a fun project. Not a fan of the Onan so it won’t be getting one of those. I do have a nice running Mag 10 and some fat AG’s that will eventually end up on it. When the weather is more favorable here I’ll get into it and start a thread in the projects section. But for now it can wait.

Nothing to it except to just do it!! Easy Peezy!! Just a few tips on what I did as far as throttle/choke cables. The throttle cable on the 520h worked just fine. There is a thin metal plate that I guess acts like throttle stop on the handle that I cut a slot in it with a dremel for more travel. I was to lazy to to unbolt it and take it off. I took a throttle cable off of a 314H and used it for the choke cable. It is just a tad long, but I clamped it to the frame and it works perfect. Your results may vary!! Good luck!!

Age has a habit of making our chores more difficult and at times dangerous. I still like to remove my decks and turn them over for cleaning, coating, lubricating and sharpening before winter storage. I use a small jack to raise the front enough to get the deck carriage to clear the frame. Then use the hooked end of a wrecking bar to pull the deck out from under the tractor. I would not attempt to sharpen or remove blades while laying under a suspended tractor.

It may very well be true that only 200 were produced. But if it is, 520-8 tractors have dang near all (95% or more) survived over the years. There were some very common models sold during the same general period of time. Seems like the 312 models were extremely popular. The "L" models Lawn Rangers were another popular model from an earlier period. I will just say if only 200 were made, we've seen every one of them!

Like I said @Rp.wh is most times useless but does has a knack for finding tractors... I recently acquired three of them ... all 702s. They been POed and molested heavy but most nothing that can't be reversed with a little elbow grease and a bucket of paint and a brush. A sneak preview of all three. Why do they always look better in pictures?!?!? 702 # 1 Yeah she seen better times but mostly there. Not exactly a roller ... frozen water and transmissions don't play together well but a hour in the shop and was draining. Water and oil were still separated so that's good thing. Gotta like the steering wheel! Nice ... A for effort I guess From the we've see it all files ... @Ed Kennell you still got your front tiller ? I think this guy was setting up for it. Joking aside guy has gotta wonder what he may have been trying to turn in 1968 . Is it my eyes or the pic but does that block look blue?? Didn't notice 'till now but find out tomorrow for sure. A sno blower perhaps??? Actually this is some kind of pull switch just hanging out! The good news ... The shoes look really good fronts look to be orginal Generals widely used in the day and hard to find now. Rears don't appear to be cracked or bulging out anywhere. They'll get aired up abit tomorrow to see. The rubber should be able to be saved. Like any good show and to keep you guys in suspense ... to be continued ... Stay tuned for for tomorrow's episode featuring 702 # 2 !

Not to Hijack a fine tractor thread but: Kids! Kids Kids!!! You become a fan for various reasons. Me it was the usual way. How does a kid in a little Podunk town in NY become a Packer fan? For the same reason most kids adopt a favorite team in the 60's. By the uniforms of course!! We had only three channels back in the Stone Age of Television. NBC carried the AFL. Curt Gowdy, Al Derogatis, Charley Jones and the like. CBS carried the NFL Ray Scott, Paul Christman, Pat Summerall and Jack Whitaker. My Uncle went to the University of Buffalo and he and my Grandfather went to Bills games at The Rockpile. Bills were AFL Champs in 65. They were always on NBC. Sometimes the Jets. The Giants were on CBS all the time. My Grandfather got Sports Illustrated and most of the pictures back then were in Black and White. But then the 65 NFL Champ game between the Browns and Packers was photographed in color. It was a Mud Bowl but the colors got my attention and I started reading about this team from tiny GB. The rest is History

Lunch time up date: Dollar bill the points # 3 and she fires right up. Actually runs pretty good. HY fluid and mouse turds flying all over don't taste well tho ... Took the dozer blade off and in the warehouse she went for another day ... got smaller fish to fry. #1 & 2 out in the pasture under tarps .. sorry Dan no more room at the inn... tractor heavy ya know .... Say the word and we can get 1 & 2 back in the shop and mafia down to parts and sort. Maybe projects for next winter. Now for football... That's why we like it.. Commercialism can have a lame @$$ game of golf ... Almost bad as golf ... they go round and round. and he who has the most moola wins. Really??? Thought I saw a dude tooling around in a track chair. Glad the pork loins won then. Gotta feeling we ain't gonna go far in the playoffs Squonkies ... I remember watching the Pack a couple months ago at tractor show camp getting pasted by the birds.. We'll be having Philly cheese steak sammies... bout the only damned good thing Philadelphia gave to the world... so we don't feel so bad when they lose again ...

Thanks guys. After I took off the guard and foot rest it appeared pretty simple. The belt had jumped the tensioner pulley and it was pretty worn down in the narrow side of the "V" and starting to strand in a couple areas. Pulleys appear fine. Took it to TSC to replace, everything I've read online says mine should be a 5/8" x 82" but I'm 95% sure there was a 1/2" belt on there from a previous owner (I bought a 5/8"). Testing in my shed it works now, eating lunch and about to head out and see if I can move some snow!

Actually, that silver relay beside the start solenoid is the low oil relay that prevents the engine from cranking over if the oil level is low. After building wire harnesses for the 520's that 312 harness is fairly straight forward. If you follow the wires from the circuit board and just remove those then what is left will not be too bad to follow. The 312 does not have too many safety switches, main ones are the clutch, PTO, oil level, and seat. Here is the harness from my 312-8 with the warning circuit board wiring removed. You will notice the seat switch wires are also removed. That is because to mow steep hills and ditches I sometimes need my butt off the seat for stability.

When I ordered the decals from Terry, I asked him not to send the big TRANSAXLE decal that goes under the seat. Therefor my tractor looks like this. And not like this. Nothing wrong with that decal, I just decided not to use it.

Our most recent weather forecast was pretty accurate for once. We had heavy snow predicted overnight with around six to eight inches forecast. I looked out during the night (age induced pee emergency) and it was indeed snowing hard. We awoke to the promised depth of the white stuff and it was still falling. They said it would turn to rain by yesterday afternoon, and lo, it did. Been raining ever since. This was yesterday morning. ..... Today there is a lot less snow and the roads are open. if temperatures stay high it will be gone pretty soon, but that will bring flooding, which has already started in some areas. This was pretty much a national event, not just a local thing. But then national in the UK is pretty much back yard stuff in the US.

Ok now that I got you straitened out ... on to # two. As with #1 first order of business was to drain the coolant. Wish POs would use anti freeze... Now we have a roller... Prolly not for long tho... All four completely gone. This girl is in real rough shape . Lots of things molested, broken, missing and just plain cobbled. It could be restoed but better suited to a parts tractor. Some must die so others may live. Towing point ?? How on earth does one break a lift arm at this area?? Yep... that'll work... Bonus point for wood species ID ... Gives new meaning to stomp on it ... musta needed the clutch pedal for a gas pedal ... Show hitch worth the price of admission? This guy had to gradiate to the Pullstart school of fabrication. The redesigned coolant add ports ... Lets not get all unraveled about the throttle cable not working...

Hi all. Went shopping this morning. We have a chain of supermarkets here called Lidl and they sell all kinds of stuff. The middle aisles have everything from garden tools, to health products to clothing. They change very regularly, almost when its gone its gone territory. So we always wonder what's in the middle at Lidl. Today I found some spray tins of lubricant which I have never seen before. Had to buy some just in case lol.... Now, we have Pine martens up in Scotland and I'm worried that if they are stocking this stuff we may have an influx coming south. The also had tins of this stuff.... We have it in jars but it's strictly for medial uses.
