I'm never one to believe the TV weather people since they are wrong 90% of the time, but it never hurts to use the old Boy Scout motto and "be prepared". With the first major snow in two years predicted for my area, I have the 416-H with snow plow parked in front of the garage door, and the walk-behind snow blower along side. I topped off the fuel tanks, checked the hydro fluid level, and put the battery maintainer on. Went to the gas station and filled my cans with E-free gas. Since I don't have a permanent back-up generator, I pulled out the portable 5500/8500 watt generator, made sure it would start on the first pull, gassed it up and did an oil change. Hook-up wire is ready to plug into my whole house plug that I wired two years ago and never used yet. Both 4-wheel drive vehicles are gassed and ready. The 275 gallon heating oil tank is a little under 1/2 full, and so is the 250 gallon propane tank. Two cases of toilet paper are on the shelf, an extra gallon of milk is in the fridge. Plenty of coffee and food is in the pantry. I've done everything that I know to keep the snow away, but just in case... I think I'm ready.

Picked up a 520-8 today, no motor, needs a lot of love. But should be a fun project. Not a fan of the Onan so it won’t be getting one of those. I do have a nice running Mag 10 and some fat AG’s that will eventually end up on it. When the weather is more favorable here I’ll get into it and start a thread in the projects section. But for now it can wait.

Had a conversation a few months ago with Leo my WH dealer that was here at one of the M & G and asked about how many 520-8 he sold. It was only 2 that he ordered and 18 520-H. The 417-8 was one of his favorites and ordered 3 trailer loads of those. And the list goes on. He is still in business and I think with be 89 this year. Still goes to work every day.

My wife snapped some photos of the variety of birds at one of her feeders. For some reason they all left in a big hurry. https://photos.app.goo.gl/qAkphpRVsRbWvGwt6

This is the way ALL of us should be EVERY DAY. Nicely done Bob. We're ready for snow, rain storms and power outages year round here. Trina keeps the food stocked- always. The world could shut down stone cold and we'd be fine for a solid 2 to 3 weeks. Maybe more.

National Bird Day, which has American origins, has been celebrated annually on January 5th since its inaugural event in 2002. This date was chosen because January 5th also happens to be the day of the yearly "Christmas Bird Count." This annual national holiday has been observed in the USA for quite some time. The findings offer details on both the quantity and condition of birds across the United States of America.

Same here Bob. The snow machines are chained up, gassed up, and slicked up with butter spray. Brought in a couple loads of wood.

This toy needs its own post. I know there is a post in non tractor related about remembering our #1 favorite cars from our past. When I was 17, I traded my 74' Ford station wagon in on a 1974 Jeep J-10 1/2 ton pickup. It was green with a white Leer aluminum topper with big AMC logos on the sides of the topper. I was 17 so naturally, that was the dumbest thing any human could have put on a truck. So it was gone. We painted over the logos and put it on my uncles 68 chevy truck( he was old, so obviously he needed a topper). Now, I thought My Jeep was cool. I put white spoke wheels on with 31" tires. I then cut 2 holes in the front of the box for the exhaust stacks behind the cab. The truck was as plain as you could get. 360 AMC engine. 4spd. Tranny. AM radio and a sliding rear window. Vinyl seat, vinyl floor mat. NO power steering or brakes. Brakes were drum type front and rear. It was a bare bones 1/2 ton work truck. We used it on the farm like a tractor. I missed that truck after it rotted away. Fast forward to now. My Brother sent me a text message to in his words. "Walk down memory lane". He is 3 1/2 hours north of me. And, right down the road from him is a Jeep Pickup for sale. After seeing the picture? I had to call the owner. It was a Green 1976 Jeep J-20 3/4 ton. With a White Leer topper with the AMC logos on it. I am now the second owner. It was the sellers Dads truck that he bought brand new in 1976. It only left the farm when necessary. It has 46,000 original miles. The difference from my original truck. It it a 3/4 ton and has power brakes. But? Still no power steering. Here is a picture 🤠

Hi all. Hope your Holidays were happy. I found some new toys late last summer. Just didn't have time to get on to show them off. Being retired recently, we ran around with the RV alot. Fun...... Any way. I sold my 49' John Deere A tractor. So to replace it? I found this1965 Allis Chalmers 190XT gasoline tractor. It has an AC model 500 loader on it to boot. ( the grille and side tins are removed to clean). It runs really nice, but the float sticks so I am rebuilding the carburetor when the kit shows up. Here are a couple pics.

I've been an amateur bird watcher for my whole life. My maternal Grammy had several feeders and really enjoyed the variety of birds they'd see. Whenever they traveled around she would keep half an eye out for different ones. When I was in 8th grade we had a science teacher that was what you'd call an extreme ornithologist. He and his wife were leading members of the Athol Bird & Nature Club. They even had a saw whet owl 🦉 in permanent foster care at their house. Some of us got more into the activities than others of course but birds and bird watching was obviously a very influential part of his curriculum. There was even a human sized poster on his wall with over 70 birds to identify. That was a great extra credit addition to the grades that year. We took several class field trips that year to various environments around Massachusetts. For the Annual Christmas Count I was given what to this day I consider quite an honor. I was chosen to ride in his car for the day. The teacher and his wife along with a girl from class all went driving around staring and counting. The Annual Count occurs from mid December to today, depending on region. Back in the 1980s when I did it the local club held it during school vacation. I've continued watching birds although the methodology has changed. Back then we kept Year Lists and Life Lists. I no longer do that but certainly keep an eye out absolutely every day to see what birds are around. Nowadays of course I'm with the Trina person who also has the bird staring bug. We've seen a couple while out hiking that I'd been searching out for years. Excellent post. Great memories in ornithology...

Like I said @Rp.wh is most times useless but does has a knack for finding tractors... I recently acquired three of them ... all 702s. They been POed and molested heavy but most nothing that can't be reversed with a little elbow grease and a bucket of paint and a brush. A sneak preview of all three. Why do they always look better in pictures?!?!? 702 # 1 Yeah she seen better times but mostly there. Not exactly a roller ... frozen water and transmissions don't play together well but a hour in the shop and was draining. Water and oil were still separated so that's good thing. Gotta like the steering wheel! Nice ... A for effort I guess From the we've see it all files ... @Ed Kennell you still got your front tiller ? I think this guy was setting up for it. Joking aside guy has gotta wonder what he may have been trying to turn in 1968 . Is it my eyes or the pic but does that block look blue?? Didn't notice 'till now but find out tomorrow for sure. A sno blower perhaps??? Actually this is some kind of pull switch just hanging out! The good news ... The shoes look really good fronts look to be orginal Generals widely used in the day and hard to find now. Rears don't appear to be cracked or bulging out anywhere. They'll get aired up abit tomorrow to see. The rubber should be able to be saved. Like any good show and to keep you guys in suspense ... to be continued ... Stay tuned for for tomorrow's episode featuring 702 # 2 !

Back in 1984 I had a good friend of mine who was a phenomenal fabricator/welder and made this square tube base for a Ridgid Chain Vise that was given to me by a customer who no longer had use for it. Comes in handy instead of using my Ridgid Tristand Chain vise for certain applications. He did a lot of roll cage and frame work for the local stock car guys in our area. Was a big Dale Earnhardt fan and a Big Chevrolet fan. Did work on my 70 Chevelle SS and tractors if needed. He passed a few years ago and is sorely missed. The Aluminum step resting on the bumper was also one of his creations that slid into the receiver hitch. The pic of the 417-8 front hitch was another one of his creations using a McKissik mount that I had to adapt to the 417 with a flat plate on top to bolt up a small winch. That setup was removable from the tractor without removing the McKissik frame hitch. Very handy. He was the type of person you only meet once in a lifetime. But boy was he stubborn. Rest in Peace Gene and Thank You for all your help

Got our bird feeders up before the impending storm that has been called for in SW Missouri. I've got blue bird houses and usually raise a couple of sets per summer. Dad gum sparrows give the blue birds fits. (I've learned to watch and when I confirm sparrows have invaded the houses, set a mouse trap inside.) We also have a couple of wren houses mounted inside the headers of our front porch. They are fun to watch. Before we had houses built across the road, the parent wrens could make a bug run for the babies in about 90 seconds. Weather lady predicts that we get about 1/4 inch of ice and one inch of snow with 40 mph gusts. No church today so I think I'll head to the shop and work on a covered bridge for train set. Bird feeders are full and I got left over deer tenderloin that I grilled yesterday so all is good!

I held one up the other week or two ago with my head, when my arms gave out and I wasn’t quite done. I didn’t want to have to show my daughter what a loose t-case looked like falling onto the ground, so I did my best to give my arms a break.

Finally put the rear fender decal on that I have had for 3 or 4 years that I got from Terry. Bought a complete set and to date the dash, tunnel cover and this fender decal are all I have used. Would like to keep the original hood decals on as they really are in decent condition. Freewheelin Days picture look familiar @Sparky

to the Nick. Yes, post a wanted ad here and look on the for sale sites in your area. If you don't have one, you will also need an axle bracket. An axle bracket can be seen hanging on this long frame on the right. This is the frame you need for your 310-8. Note the different shape on the short frame on the right. The blades are available in 42,48, and 54" widths. e

I would mount the winch and a battery on the plow frame in front of the tractor. The pull cable would be connected to the vertical leg on the rock shaft pulling it forward to lift the plow. There must be a strong spring in line to prevent damage from the winch overrun when there are no limiting switches. The winch I used had a RC control that I mounted on the steering wheel. Just recharge the battery as needed. If it dies during plowing, the manual lift is still connected and functional.

@ebinmaine Hey Eric, I’m not sure when the diamond plate was added or the decals were changed? It’s definitely been painted before, but again I’m not sure when. That tractor was given to me by an older gentleman who owned it for almost thirty years. He lives a few towns over and heard I collected Wheel Horse Tractors. He straight up gave it to me, said it wasn’t about the money but he wanted it to go to a good home where someone would appreciate it. The funny thing is that we have since become friends! He actually missed the tractor after giving it to me so he bought a C-125 and someone just gave him a C-160 8-Speed. The 125 had a damaged plastic fender pan so I gave him a metal one. The 160 needs axle seals, so I’m going to his place to help him with that. He saw my lift table and liked it so much that he went and bought one!! Currently he’s recovering from heart surgery so as soon as he is ready I’m going to help him. It’s really remarkable how many nice people that have become friends of mine through these tractors! I’ll post pictures when we do the seals.

Interesting engine design. Intake on the driver's side exhaust on the passenger. Had a 6 lobe cam. Each lobe operated the intake and exhaust valve for that cylinder. Had one once in a 1962/63 Willy's Wagon.

Hear tell they don't make these anymore either. This one in excellent shape and how rare is it to have the original center piece? Sorry Lowell no sale here. By the Way the white stuff is road salt... and we have no snow Worse is can't hose it off ... water would freeze in transit with this cold snap. Couple of buckets of water I guess. All in all I'm happy with it from the look at all the parts perspective. Once it's reduced to a pile of parts the cobblements will be vintage history. The one piece tank alone will more than cover the cost of score. We know we can make the motor run & surely the tranny can be saved. The deck is interesting and even tho I have a half a mind I may restore it just for the challenge and close mowing around the bushes. Just to say I did.
