16 pointsI don’t like the “pick only one rule” This is my son and I on nearly matching Blackhoods I put together so we could get out and plow snow as a team. He’s only a few months from turning 30 now….I would guess he’s around 10-12 years old in this pic (he was always a BIG kid)

8 pointsPicky ! ! ! Picky ! ! ! Picky ! ! ! The guy has a nice Wheel Horse, any of us would be proud to add it to our stable. From time to time some incorrect information has been posted on Red Square by any and all of us, it isn't ignorance, in most cases it is misinformation we got from others. I applaud the fact the Classic Tractor Fever took the time to feature a rather than a green thing and thank @ebinmaine for bringing it to us. OK, I will get down from my soap box now!

Nothing but class was displayed during this game. Like was said...the only flag that would be raised in center field...the Star Spangled Banner.

5 pointsIf you want to plow a half inch or so above your pavement put on some plow skids...If there are slotted holes in the back edge of your blade Toro sells some for about $85 bucks a pair. or weld a tab on the blade and use a carriage bolt and a pipe cap they wear out after a year or so but for a couple bucks...

5 pointsI liked the video... Thanks @ebinmaine!!! And as usual, your post should go for about 789,000 pages... hey look...!!! Squirrel!

5 pointsRunning tally: The machine: $0 Wrecker bill to haul it home: $100 Reconditioned battery: $70 Wrong points kit: $13 D14 spark plugs: $20 New coil: In stock subtotal: $203 The parts store has a cap and rotor and the correct points waiting for me. I’m sure a set of plug wires would do this well, and so would an oil change.

4 pointsMy Moms house has been empty since she pasted in August. We noticed a faint smell but initially wrote it off as empty closed up house or something. My mom built this new house 30 years ago so she wouldn’t be retired in the 70 year old house that constantly needed repair. About 6 weeks ago it seemed a little stronger and had the gas odor. It was especially strongest in a closet at the outside wall where the gas meter was on the other side and the piping went up that wall to the attic. I contacted the gas company and they came right out with their leak detector. He found several small leaks on the piping threads and valve stem outside at the meter. He also poked holes in the ground following the piping to the street. This all checked good. This house sits on a black clay gumbo hill. So it made since the outside piping got torqued with the swelling and shrinking clay. He checked in the house and did a pressure test and said all good. So we relit the pilot lights. I stay at the house when I come to the farm and go hunting and visit the tractors I have stored there. Just to clarify, the house is in town and the farm is a couple of miles out of town. We had Thanksgiving dinner with all the family there and all was good. Then the Monday after Thanksgiving I came down to go hunting and smelled gas again. So I called the gas company again and lost a hunting day waiting for them to check it out. This time all was good outside but he detected gas where the piping goes through the wall into the house and inside in that closet. He put a gage on house piping and it showed a small slow leak at 12 psi. So he pulled the meter and said I needed a plumber since it was on the house side. Plumbers were backed up 2 weeks for non emergency work. I opened all the doors & windows and ventilated house out good. So I had no heat or hot water at house while hunting. Ruffed it with a small portable electric heater for the bedroom, microwave food and a cold shower. Hunting was really like deer camp again. Since the house is in the city I cannot work on the house gas piping. I met the plumber this morning. They put a gage on it, 12psi and soaped all the fitting they could get to. The fitting at the dryer gas valve has a tiny bit of bubble so they replaced that. Still had a slow leak. So we went back to the pipe that enters the brick wall at the meter. I chipped out the mortar around the pipe They tried to unscrew the nipple but It just twisted. So we had to cut a hole through the closet sheetrock to get at it from the inside. Its interesting the pipe was good through the brick but heavily rusted in the air space between the back side of brick and foil wall board on house framing. I think we caused the big hole you see in pipe picture when we removed it. It was black pipe so they replaced it with a galvanized nipple. I asked if we should wrap or coat the pipe but they said no. Amazingly we just got the City Inspector over on a Friday afternoon and he signed off on the repair. Now I have to wait till Monday or Tuesday to get the gas company out to reinstall the meter. One ten inch pipe nipple, two plumbers for half a day and the lady at the office coordinating the City Permit and inspection. $912.00 We really missed what could have been a very bad situation. Last year at about this same time the Catholic Church in a rural community outside of town exploded and burned completely down. They had a similar situation where gas was smelled one evening when they were practicing Christmas songs, but the gas company found no leak and pressure tested ok. A few days later a lady entered the church to prepare for morning mass. When she lit a candle the church exploded. Sadly she died a few days later. Because there was a death the State Fire Marshall and Gas Company did a lengthly investigation. But with the building burned so intensely they could not pinpoint the cause of the gas leak. 3pm I’m sitting in my deer stand writing this and it’s a little on the breezy side for a good evening hunt. Maybe the wind will calm down right before dark and the deer will move like they sometime do.

4 pointsMost all the information we process has always had someone’s personal twist on it. In all the years since speech became a thing it has not changed. Today it is more prevalent than ever. But it isn’t new. I despise the word misinformation, because everything is misinformation by the rules of those who call it that. Perception is everything, and it varies from one person to another. Welcome to Earth. So what do we do? What clear headed humans have always done: You do your own research and decide what to believe for yourself. I know the fella in the video was incorrect on a couple points. But it was nice to see a (very) shiny red Wheel Horse featured on anything. We all know he maybe was a little too proud, but I’m ok with that. My neighbors think I’m an idiot when Sunday afternoons sound like a fleet of Harleys are echoing from my yard. I assure you they laugh about what they perceive as my silliness too. …After all, the best place currently to discuss such things needs an occasional new topic, right?

4 pointsIndustrial engines can be a PITA to get the correct parts for. Just because a certain model engine was used in a forklift, doesn't mean it uses the same stuff in a street sweeper. I went round and round with a Tennant sweeper with a Continental engine. Guy wanted tune up parts. There were like 8 different variations of points caps and rotors. Get the number off of the distributor if possible

4 pointsNow that you have a forklift you can get the truck project down from the storage racks and finish it before @ebinmaine finishes Colossus. Is that a Continental engine? They were used in lots of industrial applications and were tough as nails.

4 pointsWhen I was about 12 or 13 my Dad, brother and I replaced the wood shingle roof on our barn with a galvanized steel roof. I got to do all the shingle tear-off since I was the lightweight and some of the sheathing boards didn't look too strong. A few of the boards cracked and creaked a bit but none actually broke. Once the shingles were off we removed every other board (they were 10" on center) giving room enough to stand on the hay bales and nail on the metal from inside the barn and we could pass the sheets of metal through the openings. If someone did the things that seemed normal back then in todays regulated environment the would be put in jail for child endangerment. In my opinion I am better off for having had those experiences.

4 pointsThought I'd post an update Couldn't find any info online. So ended up eventually removing the nut on the end of the Bendix assembly - was pretty difficult as the starter mechanism kept spinning. Eventually with some vise grips and an impact driver I got the nut off. Then I found a spring in my nuts and bolts can, trimmed it down to size, reassembled, and tested her out. Well, she started! I also looked with the hood open and saw the mechanism of action that @oliver2-44 explained: gear moved outward to start, then when engine got going the gear moved back inward via the spring. Not sure where the spring came from and how it'll hold up but she runs again! Would still like to hear your opinions in case I should get back in there and better future proof the repair. Attached a photo of the remaining chunk of spring I cut off when trimming it to length (I estimated number of coils by the mangled rings I found remaining from the original starter).

4 points@Handy Don thanks for the info! Luckily it looks like my bracket is the former and was just misassembled. It's about 11" and looks like it's fitting the plow frame correctly now that I moved the levers to the inside. Here's a pic Thanks for the offer @ebinmaine!

3 pointsI'm not arguing on whether the tractor is rare or isn't. It just bothers me that the facts he says that makes it rare are not true. The guy himself says he goes to Wheel Horse shows where people flock to see it. No other 1965 10hp short frames at those shows? Like I said it's a great tractor. I enjoy seeing it. What I don't like is that now I know to watch Classic Tractor Fever with the sound off. Sad because it's supposed to be informative. Hey I have this rare original paint Mercedes. Only one that came from the factory in Wheel Horse red. It's a hit at MB shows. Next on Classic Car Fever.
