No mirror pics for this one because I bought it and just drove it over to my Mother in laws house just a few blocks away. Just poured in a gallon or so of fresh gas and swapped in a fully charged battery. It then started right up even though it was -10 degrees celsius or so out. Ran a little rough at first but by the time I got it to it's temporary home it was running smooth and quiet. Hydro lift and drive both work perfectly. Deck might be seized or frozen, I will deal with that later. Has oversize tires on it, not sure what I am going to do about that. I did not make note of the hours or if the hour meter even works as the volt gauge does not.

I assume it had something to do with spherical items and a crushing action? My wife can perform the same function with only a phrase brother. No tools required!

Cool find. I was gonna suggest something not quite as "family friendly" so I'll go set back down in the corner now.....

Since the 312-8 got scrapped, I had its 48" blade, wheels/tires, spacers, and stuff. Cant find a half decent deck for the 416-H so its been chilling a while in the back of the shop, one of the original 1993 Deka turfs in back gave out a few months ago so i figured heck let's toss the fluid filled 24s on. Fit great, lots of room, rubbed the tank frame without spacers, it definitely feels more stable, cant wait to hook up a plow.

Last May i brought home a C141-8 that was thrown in with another tractor to sweeten the deal. The previous owner said it would run. Today I pushed it onto the lift table and started messing with it. A new carb, battery, and test tank for fuel. Checked the oil, good to go. It fired right up and sounded like a hammer mill. P.O. didn,t tell me it was knocking. Didn,t matter I was still bringing it home, but he could have told me about the bad knock, I would not have started it. Lucky it didn,t throw a rodi had even made up and painted a set of brackets to mount a snow blade under it. Had them hanging and drying under a furnace outlet. I have a 10 hp kohler on the bench which may go into this machine.

I really like that HF lift table. It’s smaller than my stand, and would work well in the garage. Maybe I’ll catch them on clearance one day. At least I hope so… I built my stand with the capability to be towed around from my old barn to my old shop. Now at the new house I don’t need that ability as much. It’s a great stand, but takes up a lot of real estate. But, I can start or finish with nothing but a standard WH frame, and go from there. For that, nothing works better!

Seller threw these in as well. Tractor does not have the rear lift but just some contraption bolted to the rear hitch to adapt to these. However, I do have the proper sleeve hitch and lift on a couple of my machines so I can use them.

The half circles are there for a couple reasons. One for you to hold on to. Also to line up with a valve stem if there was one. Our valve stems are on the inside and those wheel weights go on the outside so it won't matter to you. As for position, I would put them on the outside of the wheel with that bump in the weight facing the inside as long as they fit that way.

I never had one of those. I’ve decided to save all my efforts for “late life delusion” and have all my fun then. I will be the first to admit I absolutely spend more than $255 per year. But it’s still a cheaper hobby than even golf or fishing, plus most of it is done right here at home.

Yeah ... now what can we talk about to take this one ...

After all these years of wrestling that 60” deck out from under the tractor I finally got smart and used my little gantry crane and a come-a-long to lift the front of the tractor and just roll the deck forward. So simple I could not believe I didn’t think of this sooner. Then I power washed everything including my 48” deck which was on the 418-C. The Peco vacuum was then put away until next year’s leaf harvest! In order to put it away I had to shuffle some stuff around, so I thought I should take some pictures.

First ill make note this is my first post here on Red Square. Last week I bought a 1968 Wheel Horse Raider 12, with a Kohler k301(S). The previous owner did some wiring of his own to use a push button. He passed before I got it, so I don't know why it does run, and very little about it as a whole. I got a new battery and changed the oil, it turns over but doesn't have spark. My main questions are: how to determine what kind of ignition I have, what wiring diagram I need to look at to get it back to factory ignition switch and wiring, and why it cranks slowish, and then lugs down at the same spot every rotation or two. I did buy new points and a condenser for cheap on amazon, expecting they might be bad. Electrical is not my strong suit, especially when I'm not confident in the diagram, or parts already on the tractor. I'm really just looking for a spark, I should also be getting a new spark plug here in the next few days. any help or information is appreciated. apologies if this is a duplicate post as someone else's or in the wrong forum.

Do I recall that the Gold Horse Hood Ornament was used on the WH anniversary year tractors? Amazing that the tractor started and ran at -10 C. That was one cold tractor ride. Being from Texas, I sure don’t run at that temp!

They look similar to a pair of John Deere weights I was given. The recessed holes pretty much indicate that the center hump goes towards the hub. I assumed the hump is for stacking/aligning multiple weights.

You got off easy. $1200 was the labor bill on my work. Just for grins, I'm going to have the work that was done to the truck quoted by a different dealer. Kind of a reality check. The dealer I used does OK work, but something feels 'off' about them.

Tractor serial 457985 is late production. When a change as large as the engine and wiring used happened the tractor model number changed but not this time. Late production using Kohler K301S-47147b with Bendix starter, 10 amp alternator and magneto ignition with points and condenser. (Early production used Kohler K301S-4712b with starter/generator and battery ignition)

I know how that works. I used to collect Swedish Mausers and at one time had over 20. Now it's kind of odds and ends. I go by "Cruffel" there.

I also see what looks like round coil also there is an engine label where the Breakerless coil would have been so it is Battery point ignition. Also see a magnum type regulator under the Raider 12 decal. That won't last with out adequate cooling. Edit; Also Magneto plug wires come out the front of the air shroud. This may have bee a conversion???

953Nut has you covered on the wiring. As he mentioned if you tractors kohler engine has the original electrical it is a magneto ignition. The front upper part of the engine with have a somewhat rounded triangular coil on it. If it has a more conventional single round coil your ignition has been modified. The triangular magneto coils are no longer available or expensive NOS one are sometime available. This may be why the wiring was modified. Show us a picture of you coil to help us make sure we have you on the right track. PS one thing you might try before starting over on the wiring (which I still strongly recommend) is to clean the existing points. These points develop a layer of oxide just from sitting. with the points closed, take a dollar bill and pull it through the points several times. Regarding your starter turning over slowly, good cables and a good engine ground are essential. With that said, these starters do wear and are fairly simple to service. The front middle brash bushing (behind the starter gear) tend to wear and can cause a starter to runs slow or uneven. Also a good disassembly and cleaning is usually overdue. The Kohler manual has a good section on these starters and an easy to make little metal guide to help hold the spring loaded brushes for reassembly. If needed, you may be able to find a brass bushing in those Hillman drawers at your local hardware store. DBElectric sells a kit with bushings and new brushes if needed. https://www.ebay.com/itm/166664646445?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-166974-028196-7&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=166664646445&targetid=2234926908446&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9028258&poi=&campaignid=20263761986&mkgroupid=165292210513&rlsatarget=pla-2234926908446&abcId=9314103&merchantid=101500687&geoid=9028258&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAjeW6BhBAEiwAdKltMjkD9Dw3O6U6ET4-B2AL6Q5oxUBirHkkL_rWVoj5kikHV7qw4dEJ2hoCXLAQAvD_BwE The thread below has lots of good starter info.

Got to agree, that wiring is a mess! The factory original ignition switch (# 111215) is a five terminal switch with a solenoid used on later models, earlier models used the (# 101428) three terminal switch, being over fifty years old is not readily available and would cost $ 50 or more IF you could find a good used one. Also, the voltage regulator shown is not correct and will probably fail if it hasn't done so already. The ignition system is magneto powered, a set of points and condenser is a good starting point (no pun intended) toward getting the engine running. DO NOT let the wires going to your magneto come in contact with battery voltage. The slow cranking speed and stopping while rotating is probably old battery cables that need replacement. Are the battery cables going to a solenoid which is activated by the push button or is the button a heavy duty unit that has battery cables to and from it? The starter motor could also need attention. The owner's manual below is for your Wheel Horse and contains wiring diagrams. If it were mine I would begin by removing all of the wiring and replacing the ignition switch, voltage regulator and adding a solenoid per the drawing below using a 103991 ignition switch and new battery cables.

There are some good recommendations already here, but I just use cheap old simple hitch pins. Never had one come loose, and let’s face it- my fat a$$ has enough trouble getting down on the floor, much more so getting up. Easy is easy!

All I know is that all the money I have spent on Wheel Horse tractors, implements, memorabilia and a $14,000 shed to store them in I probably could have bought a nice muscle car for my impending mid life crisis. 🤣🤣

Got a bit of seat time in Morgan, the 14-8 this afternoon moving the pontoon/ trailer into the street so I could hook it up to the truck for transportation to outboard engine service, shrink wrapping, and winter storage. Doing my part to keep the economy going round and round. Picked up the truck after having the front wheel bearings, tie rods, and rear brakes replaced. The pontoon storage was a pay up fromt deal. Then later, we dropped the truck off at the tire store for a new set of tires. Going to go to the next more aggressive tread pattern on the replacement tires. Getting the truck stuck twice in our woods couple weeks back. The terrain wasn't that bad and the red gumbo glay wasn't that soft.

My wife and I have been exchanging the same special cards for twenty or more years. A couple of them have sound effects when you open them and surprisingly they still work. Must have made better batteries back then.

I'm guessing you are already looking for the second, third and at a minimum your fourth Wheel Horse. Here is a copy of the owner manual.

I think what I have to add is relevant to a topic of aging: Pam and I have matured to not needing store bought cards. Hanging inside of our our camper is a piece of paper with a dollar bill taped to it. On the paper my son, who was probably in 2nd or 3rd grade wrote "Happy birthday dad, I know this isn't much but that doesn't mean your a bad dad." A few days ago for my birthday, Pam taped a dollar to a piece of paper and wrote "Happy birthday Phil, I know this isn't much but that doesn't mean you are a bad husband! The other day while shopping I told Pam to come to the card section. I said "IF I was going to buy you a card, this is the one I would get." Showing her a 6 or 7 dollar card. We seem to enjoy trying to outwit the other with our cornball cards. Pam starts cooking Thanksgiving meal way earlier than I plan to get up. She came back an got in bed. Kind of snuggled up to me and I said "Wow! You smell good!" "I do?" she asked. "Yeah, you smell like kitchen!" I guess she took that a complement because I heard her telling some of her girlfriends of my comments. Some parts of getting older are pretty sweet.

Thanks to all for the informative feedback. The broken pieces in the Donut and shift rod came out with little effort. I can see it is a small roll pin cleaved in half. Amazing it had held up this long. I should be able to get a replacement at an automotive or hardware store. May need to buy an assortment. I ordered the set screw and should get it within a few days. I will post after I get the parts in place. John

Hi Dave, I have a lift table that I bought from Harbor freight. It’s a motorcycle lift that I made the top wider to accommodate my tractors. I doubled up 3/4” oak plywood and banded it with poplar. I waited until it went on sale and I think I paid around 500 bucks for it. My only regret is not buying it sooner! Since I have a bad back this is really a game changer. Now I stand up and work on them without having to stop because my back hurts. Unless I’m doing something simple it’s going on the table! You want pictures? I got em!
