11 points@Monstrosity, love your display. Last year my wife asked me to light up a tractor for the Christmas season, of course she ask me this like 4 days before Christmas. This year I took the initiative to get an early start on her request. Took the better part of the day to get it done, but I'm happy with it. Gave me the itch to add more next year.

7 pointsThe original steering wheel has always bothered me that someone could actually let this chrome and leather steering wheel get in the condition it is in. Two weeks ago I contacted a company that I have done business with since the mid 70's for parts for two muscle cars I have owned over the years. Dealing with people over the phone back in the 70's sure isn't like it is in today's world. It took three people to complete the order and still, like the Rolling Stones song, you can't always get what you want. I asked three times if in fact as the picture shows on their website 3 spokes with 4 holes in each spoke with either vinyl or foam covering on the wheel which I opted for the vinyl, leather was not an option but for now better than what I have been looking at for years. The diameter is close enough albeit slightly smaller, no big deal. Looking at the way the vinyl comes down the spokes slightly is there a 4th hole under there ? Not willing to ruin the vinyl just in case there isn't, again no big deal. I think it looks waaaayy better than the original one and will put that in a safe place for now. I do have someone I think would replace the leather wrap who recovered the 2 armrests after I bought it because of the condition they were in. The biggest issue is getting the wheel itself rechromed which I would do if someone was willing to undertake that task. Questions, comments ? Thanks Guy's

7 pointsHad to drag a few out today for some much needed run time. They’re dusty, but will all get a bath come spring!

6 pointsNormally I get blasted by lake effect snow events but so far it's all been just slightly north & east of me. Forcast calls for wind shift that will bring snow my way later today. Got friends in Erie Pa & they have at least 3ft of snow & more predicted. Had to clear his street with a loader.

6 pointsHere's a few pics from the past few days. This one's kinda more like a topshot.

5 pointsI'm far enough away from Lake Erie and south of Ontario but Watertown is getting blasted and making Buffalo look like a trip to the beach!

5 pointsjust added 2 tennis balls on to my walker , retained original rubber bottom skids , for more grip to the inside of the tennis balls . very tough to cut into , basically cut a wide X on the top of each ball , leaving pie shaped still attached to ball, very light silicone grease , to help slide in original rubber grip , to inside of ball . then used black electrical tape to bind the upper flowered tennis balls on to the aluminum legs , like the slide ease on tarmac / cement , the rate I am gaining on movement , walking ease , this walker will be taking a long nap . understand this mod is common to increasing walker usage . going in this week , for initial dr check / status . bionic pete

5 pointsI think it looks great! I always took issue with the 420LSE model, because of my belief that tractors are made to work, not be static displays. Don’t get me wrong, they should be well maintained and cared for- but are meant to be used. Use them, clean them up and put them up proper. Keep up the maintenance and they last forever.

4 pointsNormal operation if the bulbs are good and poor ground. Do the reverse. Connect your test light to the battery (+) and probe the headlamp housing. No light so poor ground.
-
4 pointsHad the 312-8 out today first time since the M & G to help the 420 hauling some firewood for the 2 woodstoves in the house. I know @kpinnc likes to see the LSE earning it's keep. Only problem is two tractors and only one driver.

4 pointsThe town is behind on leaf pickup so I'm working closer and closer to traffic. I decided to add a wig-wag flasher. Now to decide if I want to do something on the back.

4 pointsConsole assembly ready to install. Upper steering shaft bearing bolted to console. Upper steering shaft installed into steering block and steering shaft collar and washer slid on. Console installed. Steering shaft tube and steering wheel temporarily installed (Thanks again Eric, everything fits perfectly).

4 pointshi jcm, i will second what c-series don said. the new wheel looks great. personally i would not sweat it. however, if it is keeping you up at night i would be happy to relieve you of your 420LSE burden. (just kidding) best regards mike

4 pointsMy 85 year old father on his Gibson Super Model M, twin cylinder Wisconsin engine, factory hydraulics with a four speed transaxle differential. Only four of these Super M's were ever made. Lower right side of the steering wheel your can see the hydraulic control lever. The one cylinder operated both the front and rear drawbar by shifting the long lever on the left side either raised or lowered the cylinder into the operation you wanted to use. The drawbar could only lift an implement while using the blade up front the cylinder was double acting. As my father aged I added electric start, with a one wire Delco alternator which isn't fussy which direction it turns.

4 pointsChains ain't so bad. It's the dog turds that really get me.

3 pointsI like my tractors quite a lot but a mattress is more comfortable..............

3 pointsI may not be very helpful posting this, but I found what looks very close to original (minus the wrap) on the jungle site: Grant steering wheel

3 pointsDefinitely agreed. Interesting comment about the cold start. I've had a few of the Tecumseh Snow King engines on snowblowers over the years. Good engines. Now I have the 1974 C160-8 Tecumseh Horse. I don't have a specific task for it yet so it's usually setting...for now. You go out there and kick the key 🔑 and that OHV160 absolutely LOVES to start right up. ✅️

3 pointsGood looking kid right there. I have had my DeWalt saw and stand for about 20 years now. It is one of my favorite tools and has done a lot of work over the years. Here it is being used to cut vinyl siding for my old garage a few years ago.

3 pointsAs far as the magnum with the early sheetmetal, it will all be fine except the muffler. This is a 91 312h.

3 pointsGot to visit Jaxon today. Spent several hours puttering in the barn and workshop. I put three more sets of shelves in. We picked up a new Dewalt saw & stand, and Ridgid vacuum a few weeks ago. Got to use that today. Very impressed.

3 pointsIt’s plow time here. Both boys are set up. Wheelhorse_kid’s c-121 and his older brothers 856. Watching my older son and his friend put the weights chains and plow on today was pretty comical. He wants to plow hes Gotta set it up like his little brother 😂

3 pointsGave the diesel WH a break for December.. parked up for decoration. Is there a way to reseal the lift cylinder? I do not see a way to take it apart or is it cheaper to find a newer piston??
-
2 pointsOh no I just had to start that one… LSEs are gorgeous machines. I should clarify what I meant. These tractors were several thousand dollar purchases in their day. Wheel Horse was quite proud of them. I’m just too poor to imagine buying one. Now any new tractor would have been hard to get dirty or scratch, but the LSE was literally a serialized collector’s item. Just hard to imagine justifying the expense in my tiny mind.

2 pointsThanks for the help. Well... I had a senior moment and crossed the positive /negative at the coil

2 pointsYes. I got a nice sized doe, and a veal doe. The big doe walked in with two others (old enough to be on their own though) in tow being real cautious. She cleared the edge of the woods and I got her, tracked one of the others around behind me, and when I turned back around the fourth was standing there investigating the downed doe. I hadn't seen #4 before so I'm assuming she came from a different direction. But the wife said "bring home two" and who was I to argue? I thought the veal was a bit bigger than she was, but that's harder to judge when they are alone. I'm a little unhappy that I spine-shot both in a CDW area, but my dad and uncles have harvested a few dozen deer between them over the years they've owned this property and never had one test positive. I wanted to do a fast turn on this trip for a few reasons, so I didn't stop to take a bunch of pictures. Big one: Little one: Both:

2 pointsI can add a “shed" up to 15 x 20, per the code. Beyond that it becomes an “auxiliary structure." Practically speaking, to be able to work comfortably on tractors would require at least 10x15. The building/finance/executive committee has given a tentative ok on size and location since it’d use space currently occupied by out-of-sight, “being phased out” firewood storage. The glitches keeping me from pulling the trigger, however, are that it cannot have a “foundation” (rather vaguely defined) and that the impact on our property taxes (already insane) wouldn’t be known until after it is finished and assessed!

2 pointsI must admit the 6hp Tecumseh on my 654 starts easy & runs great. And.....I'm running a Chinese Amazon carb! Mowed all summer, plowed last winter & using it again this winter. It uses no oil & doesn't smoke.
-
2 pointsI was thinking a small rare earth magnet. Maybe even stick a magnet to the spoke, and sprinkle some metal dust over the vinyl. Start on the back side maybe?
-
2 pointsTry using a pencil magnet to see if there is difference in attraction where the fourth hole might be.
-
2 pointsIf the Zee bend broke, the cable can be shortened and a new Zee bend made with a couple needle nose pliers.
-
2 pointsClean the carb again, and again. When I got my badly surging freebie '88 520H , I cleaned the carb three times before the surging stopped.

2 pointsI had planned on doing just that. But, my whole 66 years seems to be riddled with experiences like that with all my hobbies. I am really just tired of all of it. A lot of it is from having my own business for almost 40 years dealing with many vendors and just about done with most things. Time to sit in the chair with the remote.
-
2 pointsI personally dislike them... but thats because I myself cant seem to make them run. The Briggs I can... and while noisy and not as rugged or torqey as a Kohler I have a fondnesss for them that goes back to childhood. Comment was a sarcastic little jab at Tecumseh. I will say that the one thing the Tecumsehs cant be beat at is running and starting in the cold. The colder they are the happier they are.

2 pointsWe used our camp kitchen that we set up yesterday for our family Thanksgiving today. Everything turned out as it should - on time, even! We got back to the hotel and made notes on what went well and what can be improved for next year. We have not gotten together with both of our sons and their families for a couple of years. Nice time had by all. My oldest son and his wife got some time to do some exploring in our 20 acre wood while the bird was roasting. This is the first time they have had that opportunity. Pictures to follow next week.

2 pointsPee Aaa firearm deer opening this morning. A chilly but sunny 22F with no wind. No deer tags left so I took the Kodak and sat about 50 yards from my tree stand. I had delivered a box of deer meat to my Amish neighbor yesterday and he asked if he could use my tree stand. Of course I agreed and planned to try to push the deer to him. He never showed up, so I left at 9:30. Not much activity. I heard about a dozen shots, but nothing close and didn't see a deer. I was happy to see 7 or 8 blue birds feeding. Looks like the 10 boxes I put up are paying off.

2 pointsShockingly this year we didn’t have any issues with chains. Usually I fight for them for a while. Wheelhorse_kid drove across the lawn and hit some the night we went to do his chains. That put the kibosh to that til he got them washed out. I pick them up but he always seems to find a pile I missed.
-
2 points@Frank DeHaven yes that dash face removal is what you want to help you , would also washer up , the sloppy trunnion type , lift connection point , while you are in that area , get some red aerosol spray grease , extension tube , get it into every movement area , make the rust run out ,bronze bushings at end areas , @Ed Kennell hemostats , used those forever , tying flies , like having an extra hand , pete

2 pointsThat what I do on my C160. It not easy, i have a long nose needle nose plier that helps me get the cotter key or hair pin in the bar pin hole. I use the solid bar for down pressure.
-
2 pointsI attach the plow frame to the deck lift bar with a chain. Easy peasy if you don't need down pressure.

2 pointsI attach it first to the lift arm before I put the blade frame under the tractor. It will give you a little bit more room
