Today’s haul from local dealer. Pretty fun to pick through old dealerships. Nothing rare but still some good items. Two NOS mule drives and covers (missing pulleys). One 2-stage snowblower that looks NOS. One 42” rear discharge and one 42” side discharge. Both decks came with mule drives and belt. They spin very smooth. One complete snowplow with axle bracket. Lastly a basket case 753 with 701, 502, 702 gas tank. Not sure why it was taken a part. Going back for another tractor and tub cart this week.

For me, the BEST "music" is the tune carried by a sweet running Kohler K181.

More done on the 875. Old bullet off and the Fireball 8 is bolted on. Trans fluid and filter changed. Filter was red and the oil used to be!

So while we were out shopping today the wife drug me into a thrift store so she could look for new-to-her jeans. I got bored waiting at the fitting room line and took a little walk around the store to keep my bum leg from locking up. Near the back of the store I rounded a rack labeled "outerwear" and found something on the end I just couldn't not grab, even though its a bit big for me.

Changed the oil, greased the fittings, got the parking brake to work, changed the air filter, pumped up the tires and washed it. Want to change the fuel filter but need to order it. Gonna replace the headlights and spark plug tomorrow and wax it. Too chicken to replace the transmission fluid or the drive belt...picture before the wash. Gonna wax tomorrow and take another one. 1990 312-8. My first Wheelhorse that I picked up a couple weeks ago...

@WHX?? was questioning the maker of the Napa 1410 transmission filter. I needed one for this 875 I acquired. It had an ancient red WH filter on it. Went to Napa. First thing I noticed was the box was plain cardboard and cheaply made. Instead of the old wax coated boxes they used to have. Now we all spout "Made in America!! I don't want any Chinesium and other such baloney. The next thing I notice is the label. "Contents Made in USA" Great! I take it home and open the box. The next thing I notice is the filter isn't wrapped in cling wrap like almost all hydraulic filters are or used to be. Oh well. now I go to put some oil on the gasket and I notice this horrendous looking crimp job on the filter! Now compare it to a used 1410 that I had kicking around to flush a hydro if I ever needed to. You can see the difference. The weird looking filter is on. We'll see. Next time I'm going to have to order a WIX and see what I get.

All of my workers and customs have electric fuel pumps for two reasons, they work better and they can't contaminate my oil. With gasoline contaminated oil ti wouldn't take long to begin excessive engine wear. A new electric pump will cost about the same as a rebuild kit and will work much better.

Cut the grass for the final time this year to get the engine warmed up. Had to adjust clutch because it started a bit of grinding instead of shifting. Five threads would keep the clutch safety sw from closing. Backed it off three to only two thread change and worked great again. Made carb adjustments with my new timing light w/tach function. Gonna spin the muffler discharge out of the way so that I can see in the timming mark window and hopefully verify that it's good.

Sorry guys, I knew this post would get rise from someone. The wet seal is from the PB blaster I soaked everything down with. Also, I didn't just slip them off - but I was lucky enough to get them off with a hub puller without needing to heat them. There isn't any up/down/side play in the axle but there is about 1/8" in and out. I measured the axles the best I could with my calipers and got 1 1/8" all spots I checked. Filed down the ridges around the key slots, polished the axles with a strip of emery cloth, then cleaned with brake cleaner. Installed the tapered repair hubs I got from @A-Z Tractor. Hated to spend the money, but it seemed like the best approach. Those things are really nice! Wish I had thought to order them from him directly instead of fleabay (fees ). Seems pretty solid but only time will tell.

You must be running for husband of the year. Giving your wife a tool that will require her to walk out in the fringed winter weather.

Sorry, both the hub and the axle are damaged. BUT - there are fixes for both, if you are willing to go the extra mile. A couple of things - is there only one setscrew per hub?? Later models had 2 at 90 degrees apart. You were LUCKY to get the hubs off - that one looks like the seal may be leaking and lubed it up while it was wiggling. Looks like it "walked" inward too by the chewed up edge. Are the axle bearings good or not?? Is there play up & down?? OK - fixes. Axle - that wallowed out section CAN be welded up & recut - requires disassembling the Unidrive. Hubs - Isavetractors (I believe) sells hubs that address both issues using a special hub and a taper lock bushing. Easy to install & remove. Pricey, but worth it to fix the issue without disassembling the trans.

You go with a strait stick machine Bob I'll give you this squirt gun to play with. Have to come to Pullstart's plow day to get it tho... FYI I bet don't have but a little over 100 in this rig ... cart, mask, tools & all less the two welders. I'm about ready to move up and trying to get our buddy to sell me the green one. He kinda wants to keep it in case he needs to go portable or weld in a breeze which is a pit fall of a gas one. I keep my helmet in an old pillow case but @Achto found some nice bags in the jungle for those more expensive ones. Also I have a buddy who was a welding instructor and certifies wanna be's the secret to good flux core is the quality of wire.

You should have been soaking all fasteners with penetrating oil for at least a week before attempting to turn them. If the engine has been in the weather for an extended period of time, all bets are off. Your idea of warming the engine might help. It you do get a bolt to move, stop and soak some more. If you do twist off a bolt, some holes are deep enough to allow drilling out the broken piece, then bottom tap and use a longer bolt. Use nothing but genuine Onan intake gaskets, the green eBay junk might dissolve in a year.

I generally use noise cancelling headphones from the jungle. $50 lasts about 4 years. That’s a pretty decent return

I see the Baldwin BT8486 crosses to the WIX 51410. I believe it's made in the USA. Maybe this would be a good option if the WIX filters are being made overseas.

I have a 225 amp stick welder, a100 amp mig, and a 140 amp mig. All are Lincolns. I use all of them but the one I use most is the 100 amp mig. I used flux core for years. I now have gas on both migs. If I had to choose one machine I would go with the 140 amp mig. It will work on 120 and 240 volt power. Easy to change wire for different needs. The 240 is nice when you need the higher amperage. The welding machines vary in type and size but the welding shield also makes a difference. I would recommend using an auto darkening welding shield.

I use these 3M headphones. These are Am/Fm only. Not super loud, can still hear the tractor or leaf blower.

I change the oil in my C160 transmission every year. I do it right after the show. I'm going to cut the filter I take off and compare it to the pictures I took of one cut open years ago. Then at some point I will do the same with this new one.

But, you got 2 more holes for the oil to pass through. (Yeah, shrinkflation also made them smaller too.) LOL

Interesting you mention this. One of the major surgical concerns for replacement hips and knees is the risk that they can harbor an infection because there is no intrinsic blood circulation in the replacement joint to deliver white blood cells. That’s the reason for such careful post-surgical dressing on the sites of the incisions. It's also why any sign the patient has a cold or other infection will nix a prospective surgery.

Rest assured, as wonderful as some of these hydrocarbonical formulations may be, they aren’t any good for yer joints. But these surgeons have got those procedures down pat these days and you’ll be fine! I’m sure we’ll all say a prayer for you nevertheless. Godspeed, good man of lubrification, may your recovery be frictionless as always!

had some cold snacks, looked at the herd. thought about stuff. had my once-in-awhile toke. thought about more stuff. want to take the 416 for a cruise but the carb is no bueno. hopefully get some time tomorrow to put some welds on the lil trailer, got the bottle upgraded from 40 to 80lb for gas cost only, on a monday morning too!

My 310-8 has to be encouraged to go into gear from time to time also. Tried adjusting the dog point, no help. Changed gear oil, no change. backed off on the brake shoe adjustment a bit5 and had some improvement but the parking brake wouldn't latch then. I just let the clutch back out to get the cluster gears turning a bit and grab second gear. Once I'm in second it will go into other gears reasonably well.

I am not a big fan of RTV or gasket sealants ...but the breather is the one place I use some. Many of the breather covers have been deformed over the years by people over tightening the center nut to stop leakage. A little sealant on the lower edges seems to help...

Speaking from direct personal experience. Yes. A GOOD flux core welder could do the 3/16" and up. A cheap/inexpensive one.. won't. This will absolutely be an occasion of, you get what ya pay for.

Yes to do it right and make it look really nice, it takes a lot of prep, cleaning, sanding, priming then sanding the primer .. I don’t enjoy it, I do however enjoy the end product! I’ve painted a couple in my time.. they all turned out pretty nice.

This is always helpful as well even if your throttle link is the ball joint type. Very important if it’s not. If you add a light spring between the governor arm and throttle tab (most Kohlers are pre-drilled for this), your governor response will be much better. The old solid links tend to wear just enough to create a little slop.
