13 pointsLast month I posted about whether I should patina a replacement hood for the C-160 I was working on or repaint it (the one on it had been hacked to clear the muffler as some PO was too cheap to by a pipe elbow). I had repainted all the rest of the tractor. You guys shamed me into repainting. Even bought the harbor Freight Surface conditioning tool. (Worked great on the top and sides not so good on the grill)... So today went to put the pretty repainted hood on the C-160.... Anybody have a line on a hood stretcher??? So what was your biggest screw up??? I am going to have a beer now....

8 pointsWe have voter apathy here, people are happy to moan about the cost of living but won't get up and vote. We have postal voting too, but that is also too much trouble. I think folk are too comfortable, nothing mobilises them anymore. Take away their mobile phone, their three hidays a year, their four cars on the drive and maybe they will start to listen. Voting is your only lever to pull, people died to get the right to cast their ballot. Whatever colour or party, get out and make your voice heard....

6 pointsI have to share this. I think you know what it takes to change out a transmission, especially a 3 speed. Well, I was replacing my #5053 trans with another one, the old one needed seals and a new 3rd gear. So, I have my wife working the hoist while I try to line up the eye bolts to mount the transmission. We got it done and she went inside. Something was not right...I had a gap down the top of the trans. It did not take long to realize that I had left the 2 top bolts in the trans. I had to drop the trans again, take out those bolts and then re-mount the trans. It was like putting up garage doors, the first one takes an 3 hours, the 2nd one takes minutes. And then I had to tell the wife, I could do that without her. I deserved her wrath.

6 pointsI took Tuesday off specifically to go vote, then decided to go do my state's version of "early voting" (They will be very clear that is isn't "early voting" at the elections office) about two weeks ago. Now, since I am still off Tuesday and I expect that voting will be a nightmare this year, I'm going to use that time to facilitate my wife getting to the polling place in-person. I agree that most people should vote. But I really don't want uninformed voters casting ballots. Basically, if a yard sign or TV commercial can sway your opinion, stay away from the poles.

5 pointsThe BBT played "trailer sides construction technician" with her momma's help today. One of the things we need to get from my mom that was my father's stuff is a few cabinets he used in his old office. Trina and her momma built these 4' sides outta scrap wood.

5 pointsChanged the oil on my 875. Also greased and oiled the moving parts. It's ready to go to work. Of course I don't mind if I don't have to use it any time soon.

5 pointsSorry for the messy garage! But I have now owned my 1977 Wheelhorse C-100 for 20 years! I got it when I was 13 years old for £300. I still remember clearly how excited I was, I live in the UK but I have always loved old American cars and 1960s and 1970s stuff, so when I got this it was the coolest thing ever. I have a ton of memories of driving it around, with a trailer on the back and my friends would take turns driving each other down to our shed/club house in the woods. It has been repainted but I always keep it rubbed down with an oily rag because I live on Dartmoor and it is super humid and wet here, especially in winter. Cheers all

4 pointsL 156 is a 1966 Lawn Ranger. Your trans, if original, is a #5053 and your axle seal is leaking. The seal is #SKF 9815 and can be changed out by removing the wheel and hub and dig out seal...easy if the axle bearing is OK. Jack up rear end and check for up down and side to side play in the axle...no play means axle bearing is good. kpinnc beat me to it...
-
4 pointsGlad to be of help! By that tag, you have a 1966 L-156. And BTW, the leaky axle seal is fairly common. They are easy to replace provided the hub comes off without issue. The transmission uses regular gear oil (any 90w or similar). That little plug on the left side of the transmission is the only way to check the oil level on that tractor. It should be right up to the top of the peep hole on level ground.

4 pointsI'm not a fan of mail-in balloting, but I have decided that early in-person voting, as long as it's within a couple weeks of election day, is fine. If I were to die between the time I voted and election day, my vote would still count.

3 points"One bolt" today, the last coat (I think!) on the first two frame pieces. I've been mentally going back and forth on whether I should coat the sides that are exposed to the ground with bed coating/liner spray... it seems logical, although it's not how they rolled out of the factory... more pondering to do. 3 pointsLast I heard...you have to be a U.S. citizen and 18 years or older to vote. That is all that is required. Which half of the electorate do you guys think is uneducated?? Sounds like politics to me...take it to Face Book. The Topic was Get Out To Vote...not who should be allowed.

3 pointsIt's amazing Bob, he removed the recoil starter due to the "paws" being worn. I'll look into that. Everything looks to be there including original Silverton tires, guards etc. I've been looking for quite some time! It appears to be a 59 but I will let the RJ gurus chime in. Their still out there!

3 pointsAnd often candidates for "high office" are not nearly as impactful on your day-to-day life as the ones for your local offices. And policy positions are not the end all either, communication ability is also key. In my district we have a long-term well-liked state rep stepping down from her seat to run for state senate this year. There were two guys running for the nod to in the primary for her house seat. One stopped by my house doing a door-to-door, I like what he said, told him if he was telling me the truth on the things he supported I could get behind him. Then we had a town hall. Him and the other guy had basically identical platforms, but the other guy was much better at communicating his positions and WHY he took them. You are free to guess which one I voted for in the primary.

3 pointsInside of the muffler the pipes with holes could be broken/rotted. Maybe swap the muffler from the 310 on to it to confirm if the muffler is the problem. An 8hp would have enough power for towing those things because of the trans gearing so that 16 is more than enough already, unless you just want to experiment with it for gaining power. Probably cheaper and easier to drop an 18hp in it. It will loose traction way before losing power. Towing heavy loads on hills can be a problem because of the brakes and or traction so that's something to keep in mind. Sound can be more easily changed by the muffler used. Low tone larger muffler will give that "throatie" deep sound whereas a pepper pot muffler will give that loud annoying tinging sound. A longer pipe and a small car muffler can make it quiet or just a longer open pipe with a flared end being larger, etc etc etc.

3 pointsAlready did! Voted early for the first time in my life. I tried to be a educated as possible on what we were voting on. I agree, "no matter your preference, please get out and vote"--I'd like to add "after taking time to study the candidates and the various topics that lie before us".

3 pointsTrina and I worked on the road utility trailer much of the day. New coupler. New jack. All four new spring eyelet bushings. What a LOT of work and time. Should be nicer and more quiet going down the road now.

3 pointsAgree that it looks better. I bought 2 of his stacks -for my 753 & 953 They do sound great too. I asked & he did say that he's considered making a smaller scale stack for RJs & Suburbans.

3 pointsUpdated picture of the 854 with the smaller muffler Chad Burris made, I think it fits the tractor better and love the sound of it.

2 pointsWhile I was in high school a friend wanted to swap out the oil burner six cylinder in his Ford Falcon with a good engine his uncle had gotten for him. It was summer so we couldn't use the school auto shop to do the work so we had to improvise in his father's home garage. We didn't have an engine hoist or anything close to one. We did have a couple of 4 X 4s and some pieces of chain. Grill and radiator were removed to reduce the height we needed to lift and we managed to get the engine out and safely on the floor. Swapped the flex plate, motor mounts and other parts to ready the replacement engine. Next we lifted the replacement into place, started the transmission bolts and bolted down the motor mounts. As the torque converter bolts were being tightened it became obvious that something wasn't right. After considerable conversation and a call to the uncle who gave him the engine we determined that the replacement engine had come from a stick shift and we were putting it in an automatic. The pilot bearing was in the end of the crank shaft and the torque converter centering device needed to occupy that space. By now we were quite proficient at pulling the engine, barrowed a blind bearing puller and the second installation went much better.
-
2 pointsOh boy have I done and seen some doozies in my day. I removed an engine from a vehicle to service a head, against shop manual instructions. Had to explain why it took 10 hours longer than it should have, and how I broke the oil pan. I just wanted the extra room to work. I put an engine in a heavy truck and forgot to swap the flex plate spacer, ran fine but made a nasty noise when I was done. This was not purely my screw up, but I was involved. New guy was put next to me so I could supervise him during his eval period. He puts an engine in a truck. I helped him line it up and mate it to the trans, it went right in smooth as butter, we bolted the trans down, never questioned it (he claimed he was really good at lining up engines and trannies) and went to lunch. Came back an hour later and find the flex plate still on his tool cart. Took us an hour to get them aligned the second time.

2 pointsThat looks like it should work great! Nice work. Have you thought about adapting your adapter? I seen one on CL but they wanted way too much $ for it...
