7 pointsSpraky Walfish Docwheelhorse and me where hanging after a ride @Zagray yesterday And this guy who looked like he was a member of ZZ Top band and a friend says anything for sale. I said yes this’d one, without thinking. I told him the price. After a minute of thinking he hands over what I wanted for it and road into the sunset. He was happy and I was also. So we went back out and Sparky said to me hey there is a Commando over here. Walk up it had a tag on it for $250 I asked take for a ride came back show him $200 he did even blink excepted the offer. So I guess it was a good day.

5 pointsI take exception to your comment. What I stated was NOT rumor but facts from "people on the ground" who are desperate and witnessed the things I mentioned first hand. We have friends and family in the affected areas who are witnessing the failure of the government so please don't preach to me from a thousand miles away. As most of the others from NC on this thread have confirmed this is a disaster that is overwhelming and quite honestly unimaginable to folks not there. Asheville has NO RUNNING WATER, hundreds of people are still missing, bodies are still being discovered, homes and belongings are washed away and it will take years just to clean up and rebuild. This is the case in NC and TN. No we don't rely on the government for every little thing, but these are hard working folks who need an extra hand. We spend billions on other countries and senseless wars while our Americans in need struggle to survive. Thank God "we the people" are reaching out. Help is coming from some government sectors but the government response has been pitiful. I make no apologies for my tone....its the truth and it's a disgrace.

5 pointsIt’s so strange to me that even now, I catch myself fearing that some of my “long term” projects may not come to fruition. The realization that I have more days behind me than in front definitely alters my perspective. My dad passed almost two years ago. Saying he lived hard is an understatement. If it was unhealthy, he doubled down on it. So many people in my life have lived long lives that were ridiculously unhealthy. Smoking, drinking, poor diet. Makes me wonder sometimes what living healthy really is. Lately I’ve begun thinking that low stress is more important than anything else. Especially true for the fellas… And yeah, stay away from “The news”. Regardless of your politics, it’s just shock value now. Journalism is dead.

4 pointsHmmm, is all that wood for the shed responsibly harvested? Doubtful. I'm turning you in to the tree hugger police either way. YOU are on notice sir!

4 pointsI think it was Mark Twain who said, "if I had known I was going to live so long, I'd have taken better care of myself." Still like to wrench on things, but don't have as much energy as I used to. Can't be fixed, trying to pace myself and not stress about it.

4 pointsI said I was done. My apologies for not keeping my word on that. You all deserve a better explanation. Same here, not being afraid to point the finger at myself. I am not upset or angry with any members here. My frustration is with what has/ is happening in NC and TN. I can see how my frustrations were poorly conveyed while reviewing my previous posts. I meant no offense. Not to anyone here on the forum. If you aren’t local, you only know what you’ve been told. I will stick to tractors from now on. As it should be here on the forum.

3 pointsCafoose: Looks like you have that sickle set up good! Glad to see you using the double set screw collars- I have been using them on all my Wheel Horse rebuilds as they make things a lot easier! Make sure to grease and lube that sickle after every use and watch the wobble box for leaks . First gear high throttle is best power forward when you have to watch closely for debris etc. My brother always said you are very busy in the seat as you are steering, shifting, adjusltly blade up and down etc. when using a sickle!

3 pointsRiver Rock project. I've had river rock around my house for around 7 years. I used the weed barrier you can get at any local garden section (Like Lowes, Home Depot, etc that is made of a fibrous material. Unfortunately, it starts to break down after a few years and the weeks slowly start making their way through. I found this nursury grade weed barrier through a YouTube channel and decided to try it for my river rock. Also borrowed a friend's dump trailer to get an extra load of rock to raise the over all height a little. Unfortunatley, this load had all kinds of finds and was not even close to being clean. I have a large compact tractor I normally use for projects like this....but I had an O-ring on a hydraulic coupler fail and it started leaking. Decided this is the first real project I have used the loader on since I got this loader back in January. It had some pitted lift cylinders and replaced them during the summer and never used it until now. Must say, it beats a shovel any day. The control value is a little sensitive and takes some practice to keep from bouncing when you have a full load. This thing has lots of lifting power for its size. It actually has more lifting power than the counterbalance bucket and I quickly started to use smaller buckets. The forward swept axle and gear reduction steering makes it safer and easier to turn. Still have a little more work to do before it is finished and will follow up when in

2 pointsThis is how we moved massive , heavy items! dad made this 3 x 7 or bigger sheet metal skid with a chain and ring attachment welded to the front to attach over a ball on the rear of our 1054s. (Or other tractors). The torque and power of a wheel horse could pull this thing with no problem! Dad made three of these drawbar hitches that attached to the backside of the 1054/953 tractor rear hitches . It did not interfere with the rear slot hitch either

2 pointsAll the gt14’s I have seen have the cheesy 1/8” flat plate across the front of the frame. This looks like someone welded a new piece in its place with a purpose. Maybe a blade with outriggers that had a rodnthat went to the hole on the side? Anything is possible with a welder. I replaced my factory “plate” with a 1/2” plate and put an Attachamatic on it. Never have had a mower on it. Aldon’s thread is also where I got the idea.

2 pointsYessir Kevin big driven pulley on the driven shaft. Hopefully not too fast, don't want to grenade the wobble box Small bushes and twigs sometimes stops it and the belt slips so I need to be careful with that. If I go really slow I can get through them sometimes

2 pointsI know not all can get along or see things alike. Never did I ever attempt to place a target on anyone… And never did I ever make for this to become a government affairs order either. It was just my sincerity and trying to check in with those in the path. At the time I posted, a I didn’t even fathom the depth of destruction into the Carolinas. My condolences to those involved, and I pray that some state of calm can evolve in those areas, where travel and commodities are hard to navigate without a road system…

2 pointsFinally got around to dressing up the new ammo crate bar! Items from the Wilfong family service members as well as collected items from WW2 through Vietnam. A small section of my own stuff, and I'll keep adding items as I locate them:)

1 pointEric I would never think that of you, I posted this thread knowing I would get replies that showed how other people's experiences have helped them. Hearing how people are feeling similar things a whole continent away is certainly very sobering. And it points to the fact that the news can be a toxic brew when taken in excess. I don't do any social media other than Red Square so I'm happy that I don't have all that rubbish I my life. But cutting down on my news intake can only be a good thing. When I was a cop it was important to be aware of the news, but now not so much. I guess it's just habit and curiosity. Richard, everything you say is so true. The information age has crashed into us so quickly we simply can't deal with the overload. And the news cycle is so focused on the sensational, full of a story one day then moved on to the next thing, leaving those involved to their fate. I will give it a go. My smart phone is the main way I get my news, BBC 24, but if remove the app I can ignore it. Tv for us is entertainment shows or movies. Knowing what is happening in the world is just too much to handle, when every story is heartbreaking and tragic. Better to do as you say and draw my focus in to my immediate circle. Finding those things that make us happy and concentrating on those. I value every opinion and piece of advice or experience that is shared here on Red Square, a problem shared is a problem halved after all. I will of course keep you up to date as I go along. Very best wishes to all. Mick.

1 point@WheelHorse_Kid has been wanting to build a puller. Summer has been busy but even with my bum knee this past week we managed to get a puller built. From my dad machining parts for a hitch to my friend helping weld when I couldn’t and a weight bar that I designed that actually worked (I’m shocked). He pulled in the 900lb class first finishing his last full pull being 1600lbs of weight and battled to the end with a tricked out wheel horse but ending with second. In the 1000lb class he took third pulling 2000lbs as his last full pull. He had a belt slipping issue at 2050lbs that knocked him out but he took third. We took a shot and weighted up for the 1200lb class and I added another spring to give us more pull on the idler and tension on the belt. First hook he took off the line great but the engine problems we battled all day finally decided to rear their head right in the middle of his pull. He moved 2100lbs 6 feet this time before the engine problems. The C-105 was a beast still. Successful day and he’s hooked. Already talking about building it better. Now to drain the gas check for stuff in it and water and redo the full fuel system to see if we can get it running right again. not a bad day for never pulling anything other than stock class.

1 pointWhen I was making my practice pulls I had one instance where the tractor popped out of 2nd gear. This issue has been stuck in my head, as I didn't want it to happen again. Choice "A" tear the tranny apart & see what the problem might be. Choice "B" adapt a feature that I have seen on many of the Cub Cadet pulling tractor. The feature that I observed on the CC's was a flip over shifter lock to keep it from popping out of gear. I did a little head scratching & came up with this idea to hold the shifter in second gear. The pin that I used is a quick release with a detent ball on it. When not in use it can be pinned forward where it is out of the way, this feature also helps keep the pin from getting lost.
