16 pointsMy new shed landed today! 10x20 in Sage Green, two double doors and two lofts. Will easily hold 6 tractors with room to walk around them, maybe more if I jam em in.

6 pointsNot to hi jack the shed thread but I worked at a Chevy dealership in 1980. Our warranty clerk bought a brand new Citation. It developed a transmission leak and he took it to our "sister " dealership 8 miles away because he said they had better mechanics. He got it back and one of the guys went out before lunch and poured about a pint of transmission fluid under the car.

6 pointsNot actually @stevasaurus but rather Harold's Garage, a former Sinclair Service Station, which was added to the National Reregister of Historic Places.
-
6 pointsSome brake cleaner on a rag & a little scrubbing might remove enough paint to see the serial number.
-
6 pointsThe starting price is exactly that, a start. Do you want it as a project and like spending time and money to achieve a feeling of satisfaction for a job well done? By the time you replace the missing parts and get it running you may have been ahead of the game to buy a finished round-hood.

6 pointsSo this is what the old lady was haranguing me about on the honey do. Finish the steel on it. Reminding her that some of you stretch a project out much longer didn't help... didn't mention names EB ... Have to do the soffits & facia yet but all the steel is done. Managed to retain all my fingers in the process ...

4 pointsI ended up getting the AC B-110 out today to tow the 14-8 up the hill to my shop. I didn't have much time after getting the boat cleaned up and covered for outdoor storage in October - won't be able to get it in for shrink wrapping until November, and using the AC tractor to move the dock sections into the winter storage spot. The no move problem on the 14-8 looks like it might be more than a missing key and set screw, as the input shaft did not appear to turn while I was pushing the tractor while it was in gear. Strange thing is, there was not any unusual noise from the transmission before it quit running. The shifter seems to go into all the gears without any problems. OOPS. I have not checked to see if the high/low shifter is between gears. Got to remember to check the simple stuff first! I'll leave ya'all with a pleasant image. Shot it off the deck tonight just after sunset: Edit: Got to quote one of the political candidates - "Sometimes I can be a knucklehead". I went out to the Horse shed tonight and found that the hi/low shift lever was indeed between gears. Must have bumped it when I got off of the tractor to start taking the dock out of the lake. Didn't think of that cause, since I had not used low range on my way to the lake. Knowledge for me, a tidbit of wisdom for the rest of you - check ALL of the simple things first.

4 pointsSorry haven’t had a chance to work on this for the past few weeks. Back to back tractor pulls just about every Friday and weekend. Day 14 (But really over the course of a week and a half) : Been working on the fenders for a few days. Decided to put Metal ones on it since I hate the plastic ones. The fenders needed ALOT off sanding, filler, primer. But is now almost there, should be fully painted by the end of the weekend. I made myself a goal of getting it at least running by Sunday of next week. Doesn’t have to be driving but I wanna hear it live again.

4 pointsI would put something down on the floor to keep from leaving stains if you get a leaker or park a Harley in there. @rjg854 has a rug/carpet down in his shed and makes it pretty nice.
-
4 pointsPoor little guy looks lonely... Nice to see plywood construction instead of strandboard or some other "mystery material". Barn Doors opening outward instead of rollup doors give more storage space. - unless you get a foot or more snow and can't get in. Access ramps fixed or removable???

3 pointsI use black tape to cover all the useless tire pressure warning lights on my truck. I adjust my tire pressure (20-70 PSI) for the load and driving condition. Don't need a light to tell me when I have a flat tire.

3 pointsI worked with a very volatile personality guy back in the 1980's. He was exceptionally proud of his new H-D. Someone (me!) had to drain a gearbox earlier that day and dispose of the oil. Seems that someone dribbled a bit on the trans side cover that left a puddle on the ground below the bike. We would sometimes eat lunch out at the loading dock - the bike owner "Vinnie" always did.... So I asked him "Yo, Vinnie... I thought you said you bike did not leak?" He saw the puddle & went nuts....I went out after he went in to make the Service appointment with the H-D Dealer and cleaned it all up.... What Leak???

3 pointsInsulation no….but once the zoning inspection happens I’ll be trenching and installing power/lights. All my tractor wrenching happens in the garage so this isnt a workshop.
-
3 pointsRamps are attached…but I’m still capable of operating a shovel if need be. My plow tractor will be poised in the third bay of my garage ready to take on any snow so in theory I won’t need to dig a machine outa the shed.

3 pointsNow that the steel is done you will kick up a rock if you ever have to mow that green stuff on the ground that looks like grass!

2 pointsToday, I had a dentist appointment so I got some 90wt gear oil while I was in town. After I went to Norm the neighborhood small engine guy and got some shift knobs for the new tractor as the gearshift one was missing. To finish off the day when I got home I drained the tapioca colored diff oil and with the assistance of my nephew Austin and filled it up. Maintenance and parts replacement today, no pics. No indicator lights whatsoever on the old 308, no gauges either. The 312 is a different story.

2 pointsAs it is now leaf collection time, I thought I'd try the 520 LXI and quiet collector..... The first problem is that the collector is driven from the mower deck so the only way to collect leaves with it, is to mow them and hoover them up as a side effect. The second problem is that I was operating in the dark and the tractor has a lamp on the dashboard to warn you that the cutters are running. IT IS TOO DARN BRIGHT!! Why on earth do I need a dazzling light on the dashboard to tell me something I already know? I couldn't see where I was going! It has to go, or be significantly dimmed like the nav system in the car when the headlights are on. Whilst I'm grumbling about this dashboard mounted search light, I find the red reverse warning lamp rather entertaining too. It illuminates when I'm going backwards....but oddly enough I'm also looking backwards at this time so I don't get to experience the pleasure of seeing this lamp illuminate. Health and safety madness I fear. Having said all that, it did a reasonable job on the leaves on my granite sett drive, very much assisted by the 520LXI's very good headlights and fantastic turning circle.

2 pointsFor $13 ish plus shipping you can just make one out of aluminum for less than $20 https://www.onlinemetals.com/en/buy/aluminum/0-063-thick-x-0-125-hole-x-0-1875-stagger-aluminum-perforated-sheet-3003-h14-round-hole/pid/13494

2 pointsThere were just ten people in a 200 seat auditorium! How can they justify that? But people can sit home in front of a huge tv and watch up to date movies, it's not the treat or occasion it used to be. I did enjoy it but would I pay £15.00 to watch a film that I could wait to see at home? Maybe not. But Mrs. W insisted we go so I just had to lol.

2 pointsI'll be making hay as well, Amish said to throw the clippings over the fence for the cows.

2 pointsWatched the sun rise.....first time in 10 days. May be able to mow this afternoon.

2 pointsThe axle holes get worn. You can ream them with a tapered bridge reamer from 3/4” to 1”. Then put a brass bushing in them. This can be done by hand with axle in a vice and reamer turned by a cordless drill. The slight angle of the spindle hole will be close enough for these slow speed tractors. While your at it check the axle center pivot pin and hole. These can also be reamed and bushed.
-
2 pointsChecked the dipstick against another from a 1991 8 speed. Same length. Then I did as 953nut suggested and checked with a wire and found that there was about an inch of oil on it after touching bottom. The oil was a little cloudy so I got the front end well up off the ground and drained the trans. Replaced the plug and put 2 qts. of diesel in and went through all the gears and ranges with the rear end jacked up and over cardboard starting in low range and ending in 3rd hi. Started to notice a very slight seep at axle seals once in hi range. By the time I got to 3rd hi it was a pretty steady drip. I’m gonna let it sit for a while the run it again before draining and replacing the seals. Hoping the hubs will cooperate. There was a noticeable metallic sound coming from either the input or the idler. I’m hoping idler but won’t have time to get back to that for better than a week. The sound seemed a little too hi pitched to be coming from the input shaft bearing. Maybe I’m just letting my hopes influence my judgement. Hope not.

2 pointsI have said for a long time my 701 will be my last, and that I want it to be as close as “correct” as I can make it. Me get be why it’s in a pile of parts right now. But I see a lot of machines (such as some flavor of a 65-67) that make me want to make my shop into a mess for weeks…

2 pointsI was told that the hood and grill off the homemade tractor I had was off a Bonanza.

2 pointsAnd the screen shot is for ??? Rick?? Oh your looking for a screen shot of your flywheel screen?? Have you posted a ad in wanted?

1 pointThanks Eric, I ran through the gears agin today with the diesel in there and then pulled up the front end and drained it. It’ll stay ‘reared up’ until I’m back in a week or so. Then I’ll see about that squealing and replace the axle seals. 🤞on the hubs.
-
1 pointIt’ hard to tell what that will go for. It doesn’ have the correct engine but it’s otherwise pretty straight. Maybe $200 max?

1 pointThis day has been a while coming. While there a few minor things I’ll probably update or change, it is finally finished!!

1 pointWhen asked how he was doing, my late father-in-law used to say, "I woke up on the green side of the grass today". My health isn't what it used to be, but I'm still waking up on the green side of the grass. I try to stay away from talking politics, I only watch the news to make sure that we haven't entered into nuclear war, and I find myself petting my cat a lot. I go to the doctor when I'm sick, stay away otherwise. I find that he is a pill pusher, and the pharmacies love that. If my Medicare Rx plan doesn't pay for it, I don't take it. Fresh air and non-stressful exercise can do wonders for you. A walk through a mountain path is infinitely better that a walk in a city. Ice cold mountain stream water is better than beer. And seat time is a bonus.

1 pointi had a C165 we rescued that had been outdoors for years with bad gear shift boot so lots of rain got into tranny -- the tranny oil was VERY milky -- i did 3 flushes with kerosene before it was pure again to put in final 80-90 gear oil. As noted above important to jack up front -- also to drive for 5-10 minutes between flushes to get warm - - use all gears including reverse and hi-low -- then drain again - that should remove corrosion and sediment -- Enjoy !!

1 pointProof of concept for the two new tub cars for the SL&WHN RR... Works pretty good. Seats and some paint, hitch pins etc. and good to go...
