It was a nice day so Mrs.W and I headed out for a walk in the countryside around where we live. We would usually drive onto Derbyshire where our nearest National park is. But locally we have plenty of greenery and sites to visit. We started off at Wentworth Woodhouse, the largest house front in Europe. A spectacular building which was the country seat of the Fitzwilliam family until the family died out in the early 20th century. Walking down the front parkland we crossed the fields to the family mausoleum, but I couldn't get a decent shot of it as it's closed in winter. A good way further on we passed Hoober Stand, a landmark built by the sane family as a tribute to a rebellion that was crushed. It is actually three sided so technically a pyramid. A little further on and we pass the Needles eye, another folly or garden ornament built by the Fitzbillies. Originally a solid obelisk one of the Earls hollowed it out to make a kind of gateway so he could run a straight road from Wentworth to Pontefract racecourse so he could travel direct to watch his horses run. Local legend has it that he bet a friend that his coachman was so good he could steer his coach through the eye of a needle. He won of course because he had his own needle and could prove the bet. Calling off at the Earls colliery workshops we had lunch before returning to the Woodhouse over the fields. so many buildings I missed off and didn't photograph because to us they are just part of the landscape. For example, cottages with outdoor toilets and a "nightsoil" window halfway up the wall. A horse and cart would pull up beneath the window each week and "nightsoilmen" would shovel out the effluent through the window for fertiliser. We had a similar toilet in my first home just 56 years ago. Also, telephones were not affordable in your house when I was a kid. So it was off down the street to phone box, assuming you had someone to call, as no one else had a phone. This is the type of cast iron phone kiosk but as we all have mobiles now it's been repurposed. This is a final view of Hoober Stand, the pyramid tower. Just wanted to show the scale of it. Still open to visitors in summer you can see York Minster on a clear day. Hope you enjoyed the little trip round our back yard. It's nothing on the scale of what you guys in the states have, buy it's still purdy impressive for us. One of the Fitzwilliam family was beheaded in the Tower of London, he was a friend of King Charles the 1st and was commanded to attend court in London, believing he would not be in trouble with his friendly king. He did however fear the worst but still went knowing some had it in for him. He lost his head for his troubles, but not long after Charles lost his too. Funny that we nowhave Charles the 3rd on the throne. Opposite almost called him the second, good job I spotted it given his ancestors penchant for lopping off bonces.

Today I remover the dozer blade from the 418-C and installed the leaf blower in preparation for the annual deluge of leaves we have. When I built the blower I used an eight inch round air duct elbow to direct the air flow but replaced it with a shorter rectangular sheet metal piece. Works as well and doesn't stick out nearly as far.

https://www.quixx.com A friend gave me this Tip. He is a professional in repair and reconditioning of old Car Seats for Porsche and BMW. I asked him because of the Transit Seats what to Do on a cost effective site They have a vinyl repair set what should work perfectly. Until now i never tried myself, but he showed me a seat what he reworked with their Products. The result was very impressive. He told me you just have to Work exactly like their suggestions to get good results. maybe worth a try. edit btw: great work so far end edit

I’ve had good success with Gorilla Tape. The surface prep is important -- clean, clean, clean with no residue of the cleaner -- I use an alcohol wipe as the final Pay attention to layout to avoid folds or wrinkles in the tape--this may involve using pieces trimmed to size/shape with sharp scissors. Practice with some paper to figure out the layout of the tape. Also, where overlapping, pay attention to the direction of the overlap so that sliding onto or off of the seat won’t be catching the edge of the tape. I also have removed the edging on the seat before taping so that the edging holds the end of the tape--it is a bit of a job to get the edging back on, but it is doable. If you do remove the edging, you get the chance to put tape on the underside of the black plastic cover which majorly strengthens the patch. Go ahead and put some tape underneath vulnerable places where it hasn’t ripped yet! Know that the adhesive on Gorilla Tape (unlike inexpensive duct tape) cures once exposed to air. So after getting a piece off the roll, give it 10 or 20 seconds in open air before putting it on the seat and work hard to keep fingers out of the adhesive -- I use tweezers and forceps cleaned with alcohol wipes to handle the tape.

There is probably more size variation between brands than there is between a 10.50 and a 9.50. A Carlisle 9.50 will probably be wider than a Deestone 10.50 for example.

What is the width of the wheel you have? Wheel width is about 1/2" less than the overall width. You measure inside the two lips at the tire beads. Of course it would be easier with the tire removed from the rim but you can stick a rule through the wheel and figure it out.

So , the wire from the cut out switch under the seat had a break in it ! replaced and all good so thanks for your help ! Also put new spark plugs in... what a difference... so want to take blades off next and sharpen them, what would be the correct size socket ? and are they a right hand thread ? Phil

3m makes a vinyl repair kit. It includes adhesive and various colored material to mix with the adhesive. After you repair I concur with Don to use a vinyl conditioner.

This is just a wild guess because you did not provide the model number or serial number of the deck. I think there was a change in the front idler assembly that may change the drive belt. Belts listed on this page. Click on the front page of the manual.

Did the first one shred too? If so, there might be something contacting the belt which is shredding it. Make sure it's routed correctly. Usually a wrong belt is to tight or too loose or just doesn't perform well, but shredding is something to inspect why that's happening.

Note that the 520 part uses the two console cover screws in addition to the current ones. The cover on console cover on the 520's have a jog in them to allow for the additional height, washers or spacers will be needed. I had the same breakage on my 1991 520H because it was made before the update. I think that the 520C models had the improvement and all 520's made from 1992 and up had the update. For my 1991 I bought both the updated seat support and the console cover plus I added reinforcement under the break after it was welded.

It has been a long time coming but we have red. I lost serious interest in this project after a huge paint failure which required total stripping of everything and starting over which after putting a lot of time into body work isn’t fun along with other things put it on the back burner. So now aside on waiting on some miscellaneous parts from toro the only paint work left is the nose of the hood and the hood stand. There is some used parts I need to find like a good rear rim but it’s not a high priority as I have a good set of rims off a 416 that I can use for the time being.

Thanks I did try a couple places on the fender with eazy off.I let it sit for about a min.Used a scrubbing pad. It worked well removing the paint, not perfect but good enough for me I just don’t Iike the two tone thing going on. Later after I get it all cleaned up I’ll go over it with boiled linseed oil.I find this brings out the old paint pretty well and keeps the rust at bay. All my machines are workers so not looking for perfect I’ll post a pic when it’s all done

Oh well. Mine went AWOL for two days then showed up back on it's rail today mid-morning. I'm guessing that one of the other two long-term techs had it. The three of us have worked together long enough that we just borrow from each other as needed, as long as everything makes it home at the end of the day no one gets mad.

There's a place here that sells refurbihed batteries. "Any Car Battery $40.00" I took the old battery from my Crapsman LT1000 in as a core because they also sell many other batteries. Deep cycle for RV house batteries. Wheelchairs & trolling motors, motorcyles, jet skis & mowers among several others. I have yet to be disapointed as I've had really great "luck" with All the batteries I have bought from them at about 30% the cost of what ya get from Autozone or other retail places. The battery for the mower was less than $30.00. I bave gotten 3 years out of it so far. I would look around & see if there is a discount battery shop wherre they refurbish batteries in your area.there should be a place like that in most cities. If you live in a rural area it might not be worth the long drive to get there as gas is not cheap. After I found this place, I only go there as I now refuse to pay the Ridiculous mark up on retail brand name batteries Anymore. I worked for AAA as a wrecker driver & Battery Service tech. Found out there are Only 3 manufacturers of Batteries in the USA so the truth is the local wholesale dealer/suppliers/distributors just slap a namebrand sticker on 1 of the 3 available as they unload the pallets of batteries & distribute them to the retail companies. I know this because I used to have to go to the supplier to get a pallet or 2 of batteries as Replacing//selling batteries is a huge part of AAA's profit margin..... aint that some SHEE-!P... Good luck.

Is your steering lock broken or just worn. If the holes are worn they can be drilled out and brass bushings installed.

This one? Used by many models so a good used one should be available. Place a wanted ad in our classified section. It is no longer available from Toro. https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/classifieds/wanted/ Use [Add new classified] in red box. Include your approximate location. One may be not far away.

whats your end goal ???????--- just get off the layer of ugly top coat paint -- and have tractor appear with original factory paint - - or is it to paint the tractor? if you can't get off the top layer and want to paint the tin then suggest you have it sand blasted to get to bare metal then properly prime and paint
  36. 1 point
It appears that the new paint was put on without scuffing the original paint. This would be why it is pealing the way it is. Back before vinyl decals, cars & trucks were hand lettered with paint over the un-scuffed original paint. To remove painted lettering we would use Easy Off oven cleaner. It would remove the lettering without damaging the original paint. I would try an inconspicuous spot to see if Easy Off will work for you.

We helped that on the Workhorse by adding BIG fender washers.

Just don't use this method on anything with seals or gaskets. Also true for electrical modules of any kind.

Did some more work over the start of this week. Monday I got the engine out of the donor tractor. Took some sheet metal off of a spare engine that I’m using for parts for this engine since it didn’t have some of the covers. Sprayed down the engine in degreaser and washed it clean. Sanded down and painted the shroud covers. And hopefully by the end of this week the engine will be in and painted. Also put in the dash board with 2 new used throttle and choke cables since Mr.Kelly had to use these for one of his other tractors and this one didn’t have them hooked up with the predator.

The one pictured above is a late 70s C121 Automatic with hydro lift. It looks odd because there's a side cover missing. If yours is identical other than the transmission you'd be looking at a C121-8. Pics would be needed for proper identification.

Update *** No takers - Decided to Keep *** Selling my A-60 electric. It was NOS when I got it last year. Put new deep cell batteries in it and I still have the NOS batteries in the original wrappers - no acid. Built in charger. Has maybe 5 hours run time on it. Paved road only. Has mower deck - never used. Would include custom trailer built from wheel barrow. Perfect show cruiser. Perfect condition. $750 or B/O for the A-60, NOS batteries and trailer.. PM me if interested or any questions.
