10 pointsAlto is a small unincorporated village with a population of around 1100 that has a 2 day (Wed & Thurs) fair every year. This was my first time at this fair & I was absolutely amazed at the crowd of people that were there on a Wed morning. The crowd only grew through out the day & it was down right packed when I left at 3:30pm. The garden tractors started pulling at 9am followed by antique farm tractors at 1:30. I participated in both. Wanted to share a few pics with you. Mod class. Child stock class. Most of the kids in this class are between 6 and 11yrs old. Lt pro mod. I was in Adult Stock class, not much time to take pics during my class. My brother was able to figure out my camera long enough to get short portion of my pull. I did not win but I did manage to go further than a few of the Cub Cadets. Actually I did better when I jumped in to the 25hp twin cylinder class, still no win but pulled 20ft further than I did in my class. Was a lot of fun and the weather was great.

10 pointsTrina and I went to visit my parents this afternoon. The Ole Man is resting comfortably at home. Physically, he's in rough shape. But I'll tell ya what.... He's sure as heck still got his sense of humor. 😅 That was great to see. ❤️ 💙 💜

4 pointsI got that idea from you early on. Now you gotta bring up drive belt clearance! I already have that figured out. I think.
-
4 pointsHood had several holes drilled in the front and was cracked on the bottom. Holes have been welded in and mostly ground flat and sanded. Bottom has been welded up. This early hood did not come with the brace. Brace made up and welded in. Still lots more sanding and prep left to do before painting but this is a start.

4 pointsBusty got horny today... and led lights. Note the necessary ground wire to the light bucket. You know @Achto for those twilight booze cruises we never seem to get in lately. Sorry abount the seat @Pullstart... this one keeps a guy from getting thrown...

3 pointsThat 63 axle would need to be modified to fit. Cut to fit between the axle mounts and a bushing for the 3/4" hole in it to 1/2" for the existing I'd bet there are easier ways to gain a better steering radius. If the spindle steering arms are hitting the stops on the axle on full turn both directions, either the steering arms or the axle stops on the axle can be ground down. The steering pivot arm (#142) can be extended with a piece of steel. Doubtful anyone would notice the little amount of material removed from the axle stops if that is even necessary and the extending the pivot arm would require a hole drilled into it but that won't diminish the value. It can easily be switched back to original.

3 pointsJust be sure whatever attachment you connect doesn't end the mechanical movement and travel of it BEFORE the end of the hydraulic stroke. If it ends mechanically first, the hydraulic pressure could bend something and find the weak point or snap that chain. 700 ish PSI isn't 2500 like other systems but it's still pretty strong.

3 pointsThis one is my current mechanical restoration project. 1974 C160-8 with the rare Tecumseh OHV160 engine.

3 points105453 is the part number and an ipl shows that 2 are required. Does the pto inner race use one also? https://www.partstree.com/models/61-08k803-b-80-toro-lawn-tractor-1976/14-000-drive-belts-and-pulleys-fig-14a-15/ Found this in some notes 105453 key Square replaces 6507 (1/4"x1/4"x1/2")

3 pointsGuy I work with has a camp site up that way and has been fishing Walker Lake all summer. He's found a spot where the cats like to hang out. My son has recently decided that catching a cat is on his bucket list, so I went up to scout and find the spot myself before I take him, since he isn't always the most patient. I was about 20 or 30 feet off the "sweet spot", but I still pulled in a few nice ones. Only kept the biggest one because they can be a pain to clean, but I do like to eat them.

3 pointsWell he's got a sugar mama whos the bread winner too... Fixed income here Squonky says. Ouch think I just got cattle prodded... Me thinks you guys were taking the skin boat to Beaver town... But it's a round hood ... It's allowed

3 pointsAs good I I can do. Probably worth spending the hundred bucks for a new seat I will never replace but a quarter of the price/quality 😁

3 pointsThank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers and well wishes. As of this morning the medical team and my family are working on getting him home so he can rest in his own house for a few days. You're a good bunch of folks and I appreciate being a part of this site.

2 pointsYes I have them in a coil about 8" every 2 weeks , I bend the circle the opposite way . The submerged photos were from early June. I can get a current photo tomorrow.
-
2 pointsI've not heard of a one-thing-always-works solution. All of the above are worth trying. One thing that has helped some for me was to coil the cable quite tightly, say to an 8” diameter and secure it with a four or five wire ties. This separates the coils of the sheath spring a tiny bit and lets the penetrant in. Uncoil and coil “backwards” (the cable will want to “lay” in one direction, you can can fight it and win!) to get to the other side. Obviously, this doesn’t help at the collar ends except that it opens a “back door” for the penetrant 😄 Lastly, you can carefully straighten out any kinks in the inner wire by bending gently on the outer sheath--slow but sure and it definitely reduces internal friction.

2 pointsAgreed 100% !! Yup, all "Workin' Girls" here, no "Parade Princesses" They ALL have a good life under our care, My kids can do as they wish with them then after I "join" my departed wife, as MY mowing and plowing days would be over....
-
2 pointsLOL Not very concerned either but I don't modify good unmolested round hoods. Don't believe you do either. There are plenty of good candidates out there now for doing that stuff with so it doesn't make sense to chop up good ones.
-
2 pointsWe have a river here that is just loaded with cats. Best thing to do with them is cut the tail off and put them on a stringer and toss them back in. they bleed out and the fillets come out white and sweet. Good eats right there... deep fried ... pan fried Cajun... yum. Bonus the blood scent brings in more of them. Smaller ones are good eats too. I don't think they are hard to clean.
-
2 pointsThanks for that! Wiring is not my favorite task, although I’ve wired up a few of the horses in my day, but it’s been 20 years since the last one. My memory’s a little foggy. These little cheat sheets help out alot! yep, the second will be the one I use as well. Thanks again, kary

2 pointsSorry to hear about your father, just went through with my friend Bill spent most every Sunday afternoon with him fur the last 5 years.. At first it was for him to have someone to talk to, as his wife had dementia and he looked after her full time. After she died he got covis. got over that then had tongue cancer with treatments that lasted almost a year. In the end he had cancer four different areas. I'll add your father to the list of other Redsquare members I'm praying for.

2 pointsThe motor is back together! Thanks to pfrederi and his detailed instructions and for loaning me the tool, it really wasn’t that bad at all. I was a little surprised that even after correcting the end gap and installing the new bearings that there was still a small amount wobble in them. I hope to get the external parts on this weekend and get it started on the bench!

2 pointsThe guys I worked with there insisted I eat eggs and black pudding for breakfast. It was a set up, but the joke was on them when I cleaned my plate and asked for more.

2 pointsProblem Solved. For anyone else that may get one of these. Being a vertical. Or, horizontal. The engines that Kohler made with the Smart Spark ignition. Whether it be the DSAM or DSAI ignitions. The control modules failed with no replacements available. However, Kohler makes a kit to install for about $200. That converts the crappy digital stuff with an original MDI ignition. The kit includes a new flywheel, coils. And, all the wiring and connectors to install. Plus, good instructions on how to do it. Outside of the tear down to do it? It is a very easy install. These engines were used by Toro, Scag, And Exmark. Plus many other machines. Known by the CH and CV series. But rest assured, If your Kohler C series engine starts to miss and spit gas out of the carb? More than likely? It will be an ignition issue if it is a Smart Spark engine. After this kit? My engine is now running very well. Seems like it has a lot more power. And? a new thing. It does NOT like choke. I used to have to choke it to get it to start no matter the temp. No more.

2 pointsAnother great video Kevin. I have no idea what this machine did (perhaps it was used for making mill work like crown molding) but it was in the sawmill building and I would love to see it in operation with all of those gears and wheels turning.
-
2 pointsFair amount of things going on in my family right now so I took today off work as a "Tractor Therapy" day.. Made some good progress on this machine. Started out with waffles. Excellent start. As mentioned in an earlier post the brake rod was just not setting right. I went to the parts pile and got a Park brake lever. Installed that. It became instantly more obvious that the rod was too long and angled wrong. So I went back to the parts pile and found a couple of correct brake rods. Chose the least worn one and installed that. Better. Left is what was on. Right is correct. Note that it's angled wrong and too long. You can see the space next to the belt now. I also put a different brake shoe rod on. Less worn. Sets better. Brake drum seal installed. Brake drum on. I put a temporary muffler in place. Also installed the fuel system. Tank is cast 1990. Looks good inside. All new lines. New fuel filter. Reinstalled the Facet pump. New Aircraft Spruce tank outlet valve and grommet.

2 pointsA little update, work on this tractor is slow. I’ve been rewiring, the wiring was in bad shape. Still working on power steering, I do have a box made around steering valve and making sure got room for hydraulic lines. Next will be where to put steering cylinder so it’s out of way. Will post more pics in few days. Been trying to buy another used D250, but looks like it’s not going to happen

2 pointsRed Square brethren: I picked up this beautifully imperfect beast a couple of years ago from NJ. I had every intention to get it running well to use as a utility tractor on my modest 2 acre property. The problem is, I have too many projects and never got around to it. I want this to go somewhere where it will get the attention it deserves. First, the issues: -Will need battery; -Will need plenty of work to get it going: which I have procured most of the parts to do; -Small gouge in the hood (see pics) -Snowblower will need a rebuild. It's more for decoration or provenance if you ask me, though previous owner used it with the rot and he said it worked. The Good: -Motor turns freely, with no oil leaks present; -Comes with large cache of parts to get her running again -- between parts and wheels/tires, over $750 was invested (see pictures); got good parts from iSaveTractors and Wheel Horse Parts and More Belts Gaskets Starter/generator rebuild kit Ignition switch Gas tank rebuild kit (with new gasket) Carburetor -Two sets of wheels and tires -- I bought two new front wheels from Miller but they aren't spaced right. You'll need spacers to make them work, but the tires are perfect period re-pros. The rear wheels with the sawtooth tread are gorgeous. Bought good used wheels from a forum member here, painted them ivory, and had them mounted. They have tubes. -Wheels and tires that came with it are from later model (wider) but work well. I'm in the Hudson Valley, NY, and can deliver or drive to meet. Price is cash only. PM me -- I have many more pics that I'll email you.

2 pointsGod, thank you for the life lessons Bruce has taught his family and others throughout his life. Their lives and love for him are a reflection of Your love for Bruce. Please be with him as he awaits the day that Your Son, Jesus Christ, will open the gates to Hevan and beckon him to come home. We confess that we don’t understand why things happen the way they do. We don’t understand why illness comes into our lives, but we do know that you walk every path of life with us. Remind Bruce’s loved ones that you are walking with him right now. Give them your strength as they care for Bruce. God, we are thankful that you never leave us, that you never forsake us, but you love us. We trust you, and pray this in your name. Amen

1 pointafter much wheeling and dealing I was able to horse trade for a nice “ looking” C160 auto with hydro lift. It’s from 1976 according to the engine code and tractor serial number. Anyhow I even bartered for the fella to deliver it nearly 75 miles away. Anyhow, he sent videos of it running, he never tested the hydro transmission nor lift.. which I found odd. I honestly think he knew absolutely nothing about it. The tractor came without a battery and I noticed it had been rewired right off the bat, but it ran in the videos correct? Anyhow, I installed a battery immediately and upon doing so I smelled a familiar smell of wiring getting hot.. which prompted me to start feeling around the wrong for warmth.. well I found it and started to undo the battery, it took me a short time to do so, but in that short time the wiring at the switch and factory plug was ruined. Luckily for me I have an extra wiring harness for a 160. Anyhow, I also noticed a blown head gasket on the tractor. All fluids are clean, but low. So in short I got a neat tractor that will soon run… but it about burnt down my shop! lol I ordered an ignition switch for it already and will begin installing g the new harnes this week. I’ll also show pics later. Anyone else ever have issues with a bad wiring job?

1 point@Qball wishing for you to have the strength to continue the fight! I met you both when I delivered the C-121. You’re good folk and I wish the best for both of you! Paul
