I finally got my first Wheel Horse trailer, for $5 at a local auction! It started to rain as I was putting things away. The phone captured some cool rain action shots 😎

One suggestion - Choose your battery, bring it home & hook it on a trickle charger over night before installing it. It is good to have a good full charge on the battery before it takes a load for the first time. I have around 20 gt batteries ranging from 6 months to 9yrs old. Very few issues using this method. Oh, I'm a tight a$$ too. No high dollar batteries for me, Wal Mart or Fleet Farm brand all around.

On manuals I find that enough venting happens at the shifter hole. On a hydro Erics straw method works or a piece of wire hooked over the filler hole before the funnel is inserted.

Day 4: Got a lot done today. Took the front end off, shaker plate mounts, and the rest of the steering parts. Sanded the front half of the frame down and taped some things off and started the painting process! And I sanded down the things I took off today and got them all painted.

It helps. We put a long drinking straw in a funnel and that let's air out.

The MRI showed my treatments had a satisfactory outcome. The oncologist said he was hoping for a 20% reduction of the tumor and the final results was nearly 50% . Cancer no longer in lymph nodes or prostate. The surgeon said the reduction allows for robotic surgery which will be faster recovery. Of course once surgery starts it could change. Surgery is scheduled for August 26.

That's a Kohler carb. 25757-01-S should be the rebuild kit you need.

Had a chance to play with this one this morning. Got the @Pullstart B-80 mounted along with a few of the components. The charging harness is a plug and play into my rectifier. This shroud is screaming to try out the Kohler USA decals @Vinylguy makes so I have that on order. When I parked this tractor in the barn as I decided what to do with it I pulled the @wheelhorseman receiver hitch and put it on the 314-H but now that I'm reviving this one I swapped it back. It will be better utilized. You can see a peek of the one on my 2005.

Like a few others here I use the cheapest 230/35s I can lay my grubby mitts on. Even on the big 520s. I got many horses to feed. Yes charge before use. Keep them on a decent trickle charger during extended idle times. Extends the battery life by 2 years and always a full charge when you do need it.

sooooo, when are you going to start making Wheel Horse seat covers with that new machine?

Trina found that the pipe was cracked right at the flare fitting.

You sound experienced enough to know that as far as wire color goes, trust but VERIFY.

I understand that carriage bolts would slid in the holes but again I haven’t seen any from the factory. That being said, now someone will probably post a picture!!

If there is a set like that near both ends of the plow, those are for mounting shoes or plow feet if you like.

I've used about a 1/2 dozen or more of those IST carbs and have yet to have any problems. I've never took one apart to inspect it and or looked inside because of the theory "if it ain't broke don't fix it". A little throttle shaft movement doesn't bother me one little bit if the engine is still running perfect. It's always preferred to keep and rebuild originals but some can't be done, like when the threads are striped for the bowl nuts. Or, when an engine comes carb-less. I don't hesitate to just order a new one and be done with it.

I looked into using a LiPo battery on our Jet Ski last month. The Walmart Chinese battery manufacture listed my Ski as suitable for it that battery. However when I looked into the specs it was rated as not to exceed 150 deg F. On my ski the battery is next to the engine and directly under the gas tank under the seat in a closed-vented compartment I decided that location was to warm and to dangerous under the gas tank and under me for a LiPo battery. I believe the Raider tractor has the battery under the gas tank and near the engine , but in open air. I still would not put a LiPo battery under a gas tank. IMHO In my reading I learned That brand LiPo battery would not charge below 32F and it’s capacity decreased significantly below 32F. Fun Fact: In my reading I learned Tesla cars have a heater to keep the battery warm. However if you get below 20% battery capacity and it’s below 32F. The battery is consuming as much energy keeping itself warm as a charger is putting in. So no charging is actually happening.

@Pullstart, great pics. Thanks for sharing. Looks like a great time. Green Mountain Davey Crockett is a great little smoker. I also have a Recteq Bullseye 380 that I use more for everyday grilling. It is great for reverse searing steaks, burgers, and wings. Riot mode gets to 750º F. It will also get low enough to smoke ribs and such. I recently purchased a 75 c100. It has the rear discharge 36 inch deck. Belt was shredded when I got it. Trying to find the part numbers for the mower and tractor belts. I’m doing some digging and will probably eventually come across them. I provided a picture of the deck. Thanks

You have great suggestions above. Keep in mind that 3/4/5 series attachments pretty much all interchange. The 520 with a swept axle needs an extension bracket for a snow plow, and is the only one stock to be able to fit a 60” deck, which sounds like overkill. Otherwise, any and all other attachments will swap.

Every hydro I have has a 1410 on it except for the ones that don't... No issues.

Yes, the Board have changed the rules little by little over time. It has become more restricted, but the neighborhood is really a lot better than it was, in regards to values and appearance. It's the best area in the Town and the owners want to keep it that way & I can understand that. Most board members are younger and demand more from the town & get it. Not like it was before. My shed is 8 x 10 & the largest in the neighborhood which was grandfathered in & I'm one of the few that still maintain their own property. I am the only person that has 2 tractors & I guess some neighbors next to me do not like seeing one under a tarp in the summer season when they have people over their place. I can understand that as well. I will be looking for a WH 4/5 series see what the comes up locally. I'm not sure if a Geared or Hydro unit is better. From my experience with the tractors I have, Bolens is geared & w/adjustable locking rear, it can plow the snow better & seems to have a lot more ground power than the Cub. The Cub with Hydro is faster, easier the use, & cuts much better, there is always a trade off.

And I don't post anywhere NEAR everything she does.... Ponder on that!

The 36 inch decks with the grease fittings (rear and side discharge). are the later decks . I have two 36inch rear discharge deck. one is way over forty five years od with the sealed bearings and no grease fittings. I also have one from the 1980's with the grease zeros on the spindle. Both still operate fine and do a pretty good job. Tonight I mowed with my 42 inch recycler deck that also does a good job. Hard to believe how well these older mowing attachments keep on going!

the 36 gives nice cut -- follow Pete's suggestions -- also suggest you download the manual from tool bar here and print a copy for future reference -- also go to Toro site or partstree.com and familiarize yourself with parts diagrams for that model -- as well as getting the 4 rubber bumpers that go on the brackets on top of lift carriage assembly - and since it appears the rear rod and trunion are disconnected be good to be sure that's properly adjusted when re-connected. Good luck -- as an fyi - i have a set of 36 OEM blades - send me p.m. if needed.

A much a fan of WH as I am, asking one machine to do everything perfectly is a daunting challenge. As I read your post, and living myself not too far from Middletown, it seems the single most frequent use will be mowing. How complicated is the mown area regarding edges, obstacles, and boundaries? You don’t mention any trees but if you (or your close neighbors) have them, then fall leaf cleanup might be the second most frequent. You don’t mention either, if you prefer to cut-and-leave, bag, mulch, or sweep. These are important factors. Individual snowfalls in this neck of the woods have exceeded 10 inches only a couple of times in the past decade. Last year there was only one significant dump plus a few that were under three inches. Snowfall is trending toward fewer inches of wetter and denser precipitation. A two-stage blower might do better than a single in the right snow, but you don’t mention the amount of area that needs clearing, its accessibility, the surface (paved or not), where to put moved snow, and slope. Very important factors for deciding between blade and blower. My 2¢? A 314-H or 416-H (or an older C-160 with hydro) with a 42” or 48” mower that you like and a dozer blade could do you well and, bonus, can tow stuff around like a trailer. Fill in some of the other info and I’ll be happy to refine my thinking!

@mazzbob If I could only have one I guess I would look for a 520H, w/ a 48" deck and a 2 stage snow thrower. A front blade would be nice as well, but I would not take the time in the winter to change from a blower to a blade. Sure I would find more summer chores for the blade. Changing implements is not my favorite thing to do, that's why I have designated tractors for each implement.

I've decided to leave it as in. A conversation with my daughter, who lived next to Louan and Larry this afternoon pretty much sealed the deal. When we were living in Florida they were kinda their local parents. A bit more than they needed or wanted but they meant well. I'll pressure wash it good when I get the engine off. It doesn't have any rust on it and a lot of people that see it in person say how nice it looks. Besides, I'll be pushing dirt, brush and logs in the woods with it as well as snow so I won't have to fret over it.

If you want to make it look better then when you bought it new, I say go for it. The memory of your friend will still be there. Bill that gave me the 312-8 died Friday. He had been fighting cancer for a about three years. He didn't give up easy had still been going to Thursday night music where he played until two weeks ago. I started taking him in March when he didn't trust himself to drive. I had spent most Sunday afternoon with him for a number of years. His wife had dementia and he cared for her, couldn't talk her because he have to answer the same question five or six times. He was in the Airforce for twenty years. I was a short timer with the Navy. Spent time in Vietnam and the far East. He was given the tractor about six years back and gave it to me back in January. So to protect it plan to paint it as it has a lot of rusted areas that were already there when Bill got it.

@Racinbob With a story like that I'd agree. Might not be quite perfect but the imperfections are constant reminders of the past you've had with the tractor and owner.

I am probably more sentimental to other’s things than I need to be, but that kind of seals the deal… it should stay.

A while ago I found them at a hardware store. I was not looking for them at the time, but stumbled upon them. I should have bought a few but didn’t. Maybe your local hardware store has them? I guess it’s worth a shot?
