that poor LSE needs more help than its worth IMO. Return on investment will not exist.... Rechrome is VERY expensive, Mule chrome is shot, as are the wheels. Its life was very hard, never saw a garage... Cannot tell you about the mechanics as the exterior shows neglect. I could never figure out how someone could let this happen to a Tractor....Very SAD JOHN

Weather was the best for the show. Nice temps and the humidity was quite comfortable. This was a 2 day show and these pics were taken this past Saturday. Only 1 WH tractor represented. One Hot Rod slipped through the gates . The Green Side x Side was a Kubota painted green to match the Green Mack Fleet. Enjoy the pictures.

I built a handle for the plow. Now, I can get my parking brake back and not have to massage the right running board to clear the old one. I found out an old brake lever from a bicycle works well as a lever to move the pivot pin in and out.

I bought a 312–8 a while back that came with no deck and a snowblower, for $250. It has almost 3000 hours on it. The guy I got it from got it from his father - but he never used it. It sat in his garage for 20 years. I pulled it into the garage tonight to tinker with it a bit. I drained the gas, which was disgusting. It smelled like pure lacquer. I cleaned the gas tank and dropped the carb bowl, which wasn’t actually that bad and cleaned it as well. I put fresh gas in it and a new battery. One crank of the key and it started right up. Couple minutes later I was driving it around my yard. I needed that win because I’ve had a couple of tough tractor issues lately! I’ll change the fuel line and add a filter and primer bulb as well as change the fluids. I have a 42” RD deck I picked up at the BS that will go on it. From there it’s going to my nephew who just bought a house on Cape Cod.

Back home after spending the week with our two sons, wives and our four grandsons. Great time at a 23 acre VRBO on the Choptank river eating, crabbing, swimming, wildlife watching. Rabbits, deer, herons, and bald eagles were there all week. Too much sun or beverage? And what made my life complete. L to R Reed 25yo Grad of Penn State with Astro Physics and Astro Eng. degrees. Worked 2 years at Hershey medical center lab. Was accepted a Lehigh U. for for Astro Physics grad work and just received a fellowship after his first year. Works as a TA at Lehigh U. and is an accomplished musician playing guitar and singing in the Lehigh area. Just bought a house in Lehigh and is busy remodeling to get ready to move in this fall and rent to a couple classmates. Reed's brother Jacob 21yo Grad of Gettysburg College this spring with music and enviro. sci. degrees. Jake is an amazing piano and drum musician performing in the Gettysburg College marching band, concert band, and jazz bands and performing in many concerts at the Gettysburg Majestic Theater. He will be returning to his high school to work in the music dept. Reed's cousin Owen 20yo Starting his final year a Penn State this fall and will graduate with Business degree. Owen is a manager for the PSU football team and will probably be looking at a career in sports business. Owen's brother Clayton 22 yo Clayton graduated from Penn State this spring with Accounting and Business degrees. He is currently working as a counselor at a youth camp while he completes the requirements to secure his CPA license. He will be starting with a local corporate accounting firm this fall. Is Umpa proud of his six boys ...you betcha.

You might want to take the hose off the carb and crank the engine to see if there is no fuel flow before getting a new pump.

Facet low pressure pump. Carbole or Mr. Gasket are the exact same pump. Napa # is 610-1051

Need to know what engine model/spec number you have or tractor model number if the engine is original to the tractor. Some have AC power to the lights Some have DC power to the lights Some have battery ignition Some have magneto ignition.

On reassembly coat the O-Rings with a lite film of grease to help the spool slide through the housing.

I have a little update on the bearings. I reached out to another old WH dealer yesterday and the guy working in the parts was the guy I bought my first new WH (1987 310-8) from (Mark Lawson). He knew exactly what I was looking for. Mark reached out to Toro and got the info on who made the bearings for these upgrade kits. He was able to cross reference the number to a current bearing being made. He ordered 4 and hopefully they are the ticket. As soon as they come in and verify fit. I will post all the info.

If you look up a ruby-throated hummingbird like we have in New England you'll see that the females don't have the colorful throat. Now, those models are slightly larger than I'm accustomed to but then again, I'm a little north of you.

I recommend the faucett 40177 electric fuel pump, very low psi usa made and not plastic.

@squonk has a number he can recommend for Napa. I've only hooked up one and I put it to the light circuit on purpose. That way you can't forget it on. Here's a thread with some useful information about all types of fuel pumps.

Looks like that's going to take me about 18 hours each way for the trip.

I've been slowly working on a '89 312-8 for a few years. Mostly busy work during the winter. I went with Rustoleum High Performance Enamel Aluminum (rattle can) on my wheels. Here's my progress so far, but haven't worked on it since March. I would recommend changing all the transmission seals (axles, brake and drive shaft) and shifter boot. My grandson said his car was making a weird noise. So I said "Hop in and let's take it for test drive" . Drove to auto parts on the test drive and bought some front brake pads. I did the first side to show him what to do and he did the other side. We inspected the rotors and they were flat and fine with no outer lip from being worn. His brakes don't pulse at all so pads only this time. "Thanks Pop, I can probably do this by myself the next time" he said Looks like a tool set is the gift for Christmas. He was never really interested in mechanical things but he's 18 now and driving, plus a few of his friends are into car stuff. I think the majority of us probably started out learning on cars / motorcycles.

They did have one available to stick to your fender on later models, but back in the 60’s my guess is it was more about the work, less about the fun.

Many years ago I was a volunteer fireman in a small town. Standard operating procedure for any ambulance call was to have our small pumper also respond to provide a safety barrier for the ambulance crew. We never left a driveway until the pumper had both lanes of traffic stopped.

Thank you guys even though I could only follow a portion of what was said. I finally got my 312-8 to run so the fuel pump isn't shot but I still wonder if its weak. I'll keep reading and probably try to switch it over to an electric one soon. Thanks, Jim

@ebinmaine I recently rebuilt the same exact valve with no manual. I purchased a rebuild kit many years ago and finally got around to using it. It’s very simple, just take it apart on a clean surface. The hardest part is getting the valve in and out of the tractor. I loosely threaded in the hydraulic hoses and then bolted it to the tractor. I have the part number for the rebuild kit if you need it.

OK, So just to add some info for this thread in the future. I found the original rims off the loader tractor which had the HD spindle upgrade on it. That appears WHERE these larger bore rims and special wheel bearings come from. I'll update with some pics of the bearings when I knock one out and clean it up

👍 Many true penetrants to choose from but WD 40 isn’t one. All are adequate but YMMV.

Awful tragedy....I have been and continue to be a responsible Harley rider. I am the one driving with a super heightened awareness of other cars and use defensive driving ALL the TIME. We have all heard the horror stories of left hand turns in front of a motorcycle with the usual " I didn't see him" as he lays dead on the road. This problem works both ways but the sport bike drivers "in my opinion" can be a huge problem. They drive like they are invincible, ride at excessive speeds, pass when they should not, etc. My bet is this was a sport bike going way too fast and trying to pass when he shouldn't have. Very sad for the family...

Elmer & Cecil intended all the tractors to be workers. It is OK to work them, but also to give them proper maintainence and care........

I adjusted my parking brake, the nut was frozen where the repaint had gotten on the threaded rod, it took multiple applications of brake cleaner and WD-40 along with a propane torch to finally break it free. Took quite a while but now the parking brake works like it should Jim

Getting ready for Symco with @Achto And @WHX?? and the gang! Frank got an oil change, and like the WHRat ( @SylvanLakeWH ) a cup holder! The other day Mrs. P. said it was the only thing Frank was missing. Well not now!

Nope, not too many paint their Wheel Horses but most of us change oil or at least add a little therefor, oil trumps paint.

Bill D is correct - what you have there is NOT suitable for use in gasoline engines - it is mineral oil base. It is a hydraulic oil. Note that it does NOT list an API rating found on motor oil (API SL for instance)
