21 pointsWell, she is finally tall enough to reach the pedals. Been after me for a few years to let her drive. Today was the day and she was happy! Used half a tank of gas driving around.

14 pointsI saw this machine posted on a gentlemans personal Facebook page for sale . I kept on saying I don’t need another 🙄 . Few weeks go by after tossing it around, and then @Docwheelhorse rings me and says I’m heading to Pennsylvania do you need anything out that way . So low and behold I bite the bullet, and am sure glad I did . One of the nicest C series I’ve had .Thanks a lot Tony !

8 pointsMade a test run on my prototype 551 air gap heat shield on a fairly warm day. No singed leg hairs and the paint held up. I'd like a little better bend in the end but I'm not metal fab guy. If I can find the right size dolly maybe I can get it a little better.

8 pointsI have found a trailer to use for the dump bed. I think it will give the project the right look. Had my last Chemo today and have been released for shop time in 2 weeks! I also have an order in to A to Z for all the dash components an brake and clutch parts Stay tuned project to start in two weeks. I may get a mock up in about 10 days.

7 pointsDiff is my guess also. A 23" tire has a circumference of 6 feet so at 5 feet it is almost making one revolution.

6 pointsTractor buffed and waxed. Hubcaps also cleaned and waxed. They are in almost perfect condition. I made up tie rods mainly because the originals are non adjustable and steering wheel was slightly crooked (Damn OCD). Engine tins straightened and cleaned. Tractor runs and drives very good, just needs a slight carb adjust once I run out the old gas and get some new non-ethanol high test in it (I finally found a station that has gas that I tested to be non ethanol).

5 pointsThat grin is a dead giveaway that she’s having a great time. I suspect you can kiss seat time for yourself goodbye for a few years! Later today is my granddaughter’s first lesson on the 854. She has been driving the 312-H and 518-H++ for a year but wants to learn the “stick” shift. Oughta be interesting!

4 pointsBack to some proper work today. A guy sent me a Honda mower for service with the information that it wouldn't start. Some bent parts on the throttle/choke assembly were the cause of no choke, hence no starting, soon sorted. When I started to lubricate everything I found the chain drive idler pulleys were really badly worn. One was not even rotating it was so shot. I took it to bits and the steel inner pivots were worn too. It had also been put together wrongly by a previous mower technician lol. Got new nylon pulleys but no steel inner sleeves. So on went the lathe and out popped the necessary parts. As we used to say in the knife making game, if a hole was too big we'd say it was like a closet seat (thats a toilet in England). And you can see the wear on the nylon idler wheel. Just a bush kind of inner sleeve to carry the idler wheel and act as pivot for the roller raise and lower mechanism. A tiny top hat bush was also worn and I pressed it into the arm rather than have it slop about. Hopefully that should sort the chain issue before it becomes an issue.

4 pointsWorked from home for a couple hours this morning and then hit the trails. Managed 14 miles today. Got rained on a bit, rain came about a mile from the tunnel so I had a place to hang out for 5 minutes till it let up some. Still got wet but not “soaked” to the bone. For the first time in 58 years I rode with a helmet ⛑️

3 pointsNice save! I have a C-100. A neighbor had bought it at a auction and brought it to me because it wouldn't start. The tractor had been sitting for a time exposed to the weather, and had a stuck valve. I ended up with the machine because he wouldn't spend the money to repair it.

3 pointsThe seller was quick to send me another (and complete) kit. I had another semi emergency to take care of so I couldn't get right back on the Walbro. I finally did this morning. Removed the two welsh plugs and did another complete cleaning. Put it all back together and I picked up another Mr. Gasket 42s electric pump like the one on my 2005. I really like where I located it on the 8 speed but obviously that's a no go on the hydro. It looks like just behind the engine is the hot ticket on this one. I found a bracket at Menards yesterday that looks like it was made for it.

3 pointsThe small half is the pump. If it's the differential the whole ball of wax has to come out. Swap the 520 trans in and then if you feel like it tear down the other and find the issue.

3 pointsNever had this issue. I know others here have. Usually one of the bolts holding the differential together breaks and the pieces jam the transmission. I believe the transmission can be fixed without removing the transmission from the tractor, just pull the small side off.

3 pointsDoes your meter give a 0 reading when the leads are touched together? Remove the points and test them alone on the bench. Perhaps they won't close on the engine.

2 pointsFinally had some minutes (the grandchildren were playing yard games) to replace the glass bowl on the fuel strainer, mount the mower deck on the 854, and get after the two week growth of grass. After 40 minutes mowing and the amp gauge hovering at zero, the new-to-me regulator I got at the show was holding at 13.3v. Adjusted it to 14.1v (righty tighty on the screw) and the amps jumped to positive as the battery was.taking more charge. I’ll leave it at this setting for a while and observe the amps and volts while I’m using it.

2 pointsHe has his own small engine shop. I'm usually on the "when I can get to list". But that usually works out ok most of the time. He uses my projects for filler work while waiting for parts for his projects.

2 pointsAlex No the P/O only did the top of the sheet metal the inside was never done and it was dirty. So clean every thing up tape over decals did a blend job with a rattle can regal red. Sunrise I find is to bright.

2 pointsOne more vote for differential bolt. On the Eaton you can remove the small half of the transaxle housing without removing the entire transaxle from the tractor.

1 pointI have found that the use of a digital meter when checking points may be confusing. I use an analog meter. Also, no one has mentioned that your air gap appears way too wide. Should be 0.008 - 0.012. The low end (0.008) would be the thickness of about two sheets of copy paper.

1 pointA spent battery can read 12-13 with a meter and no load but then drop to 8 when hit with the load of a starter motor.

1 pointClip a jumper wire from the points body to the backing plate. Then see if you get 0 ohms when testing the points body to the plate. If you get 0 the points aren't grounded to the plate well enough.

1 pointWhen a wire (magneto primary wiring) cuts thru a magnetic field (flywheel magnets) rotating a voltage is induced in the wire. It's the law. a magneto is pretty simple. It either works or doesn't. The points only really time when the spark happens. (timing) The condenser cleans up the voltage thru the points. Seems to me with the magneto coil bolted to the engine with everything else unhooked the coil primary and secondary winding should have no continuity with the block at all. You should be able to bolt on the flywheel and spin it and at least get a weak spark. If you don't, I think the magneto coil is ready for the dust bin. It's 60 years old!
